The inner housing assembly further includes a rotatable collar which, when rotated, has a cam surface, which deflects the locking latch of the internal connector housing, thereby disconnecting the two electrical connectors.

    Abstract: An electrical connector assembly for use in environmentally challenging locations. The electrical connector assembly comprises a receptacle connector member, a plug connector member and a coupling nut that interface to provide dual radial seals so as to define dual contaminant barriers. The dual radial seals substantially eliminate the possibility of particulate as well as moisture and water intrusion. Each connector member is individually potted to a wire to eliminate the potential for water wicking up the wire while transferring the wire pull strength to the connector member. The electrical connector can include a security seal to provide visual indication of any tampering with the electrical connector assembly. Each connector member can include a protective cover allowing the connector members to be stored for extended periods of time without degradation.

    Abstract: A quick release connector is provided. In one embodiment the connector includes an electrical connector including a first component having a first plurality of teeth and a second component having a second plurality of teeth. The first and second pluralities of teeth are configured to selectively engage and disengage one another upon connecting and disconnecting the connector. The engagement of the teeth is operative to substantially prevent relative axial motion between the first and second portions of the connector. Embodiments of this invention may advantageously support axial loads while maintaining a reliable electrical contact. Various alternative embodiments include a gimbal assembly in which electric lines extend through the gimbal, straddling one of the gimbal axles. Such gimbal assemblies may also support axial loads.

    Abstract: A bayonet-type connector assembly for releasably securing a first connector half to a second connector half along a connection axis by simple rotation of a bayonet nut. Each connector half includes a plurality of electrical contacts. The bayonet nut encircles the second connector half. Rotation of the nut to a closed position causes a thread segment on the nut to engage corresponding grooved segments formed in the first connector half, to mate the connector halves, enabling electrical contact between the connector halves. Rotation of the bayonet nut also slides a slidable portion, i.e., a nut cam, beneath a cam of the second connector half to prevent axial separation of the two connector halves. The connector assembly further includes a detent positioned to engage a securement on one of the cams to releasably lock the nut in the closed position.

    Abstract: A backshell adapter assembly which includes an adapter body, a coupling nut, a retaining ring and a one-piece shuttle mechanism. The one-piece shuttle mechanism is formed as a tubular member and is adapted to be received in a retaining groove on the adapter body. In order to facilitate loading of the one-piece shuttle into the retainer groove on the adapter body, the one-piece shuttle is cut along its length to enable the cut ends of the device to be spread apart in order to load the shuttle mechanism into the retaining groove on the adapter body. In an alternate embodiment of the invention, the shuttle is formed with one or more radially extending protrusions formed in the shape of wedges. These protrusions provide a surface to compress the shuttle to enable the shuttle to be loaded into a coupling nut. In the alternate embodiment, a retaining groove is provided in the coupling nut which captures the protrusions when the shuttle returns to its original diameter.

The annular member 80 is of a metal and at its forward end has triangular teeth 85 that engage the teeth 13 at the rear of the front assembly 1. The rear of the annular member 80 and the forward end of the cylinder 70 both have rounded teeth 82 and 74 that engage with one another so as to avoid sharp edges on the cylinder that could lead to damage to its plating 170 caused by electrical transients.
