  • Patent number: 5269692
Abstract: A board-to-board connector comprises a first and a second insulation body and a plurality of terminals, each of the terminals having contacts at both ends and at least two pairs of bulges near the respective ends and, after press-insertion of the terminals into through-holes of the first and second insulation bodies, the first bulge pair being fixed to the through-hole of the first insulation body and the second bulge pair being fixed to the through-hole of the second insulation body resulting in firmly joining the first and second insulation bodies together. The first insulation body can provide a hollow cave on a contacting side with the second insulation body, which makes it possible to fabricate the first insulation body having a larger height necessary for increasing a height of the connector.

  • Patent number: 5176532
Abstract: A molded receptacle including an interior wall surface and screw threads formed on the interior wall surface by a mold core. The threads have a predetermined thread profile including root radii substantially corresponding to a desired thread standard and crest radii which are smaller than the root radii. The crests of the threads are deformable after molding to enable the mold core forming the threads to be stripped from the receptacle in a direction substantially perpendicular to the major axis of the threads to provide crests which are deformed from their original molded shape yet dimensioned to fall within the desired thread standard. The receptacle is utilized as a threaded socket having one or more electrical contact members. The socket includes a housing which can be formed as stated above including an interior side wall having the threads, a first closed end, a second open end and a first aperture formed through a portion of the housing.

  • Patent number: 5131871
Abstract: An improvement is provided in an electrical connector system which includes a connector block of insulating material having a plurality of pin receiving openings for positioning a plurality of terminal pins therein by an interference fit. At least some of the openings each are generally rectangularly shaped and include inwardly directed pin engaging projections located in diagonally opposite quadrants of the rectangular opening. The invention contemplates that the connector block may have a series of the openings in a closely spaced row. The diagonally opposite quadrants in which the projections are disposed are at the same respective locations in each opening along the row.

  • Patent number: 4995819
Abstract: A set of strips of electrical terminals connected together by carrier strips (122 and 120) each comprises electrical terminals (95) each having a receptacle portion (96), a barbed retention part (98) for retaining the terminal in a terminal receiving cavity (62) in an insulating housing (14), a terminal leg and a cranked arm (102) connecting the retention part (98) to the terminal leg (100). The leg (100) has intermediate its ends a retention member (108), the leg (100) terminating in an insertion lance (112) for insertion in a hole (H) in a substrate (S). The set of terminal strips, comprises pairs of terminal strips, the arms (102) of the terminals of each pair of said strips being cranked in opposite senses. The portion (114) of the leg (100), between the arm (102) and retaining member (108) varies in length from pair of terminal strips to pair of terminal strips. The angle of crank of the arm (102) similarly varies.

  • Patent number: 4944684
Abstract: An improved electrical junction box includes a housing, a multilayer printed circuit board supported by the interior of the housing and an array of electrical connectors supported by the exterior of the housing. The electrical connectors make electrical contact with one or more circuit traces in the multilayer circuit board. The circuit traces are of varying thicknesses according to the current levels to be conducted by the traces, thus minimizing the amount of copper required to fabricate the junction box. The circuit traces with the greater thicknesses are positioned in the outer layers of the circuit board to enhance heat dissipation from the circuit board.

  • Patent number: 4908335
Abstract: A one piece, molded, insulating connector body (14) for a surface mounted, shielded, electrical connector (10), comprises a plug portion (16) projecting from the body (14) into a forward hood (68) thereto, for mating with a shielded electrical socket (18) inserted into the hood (68). There projects from a terminal receiving face (70) of the body (14), a terminal leg spacer plate (74) having notches for receiving the `U`-shaped retaining members (108) on the legs (100) of the terminals (95) in through cavities (62) in the body (14). Each leg (100) has a lance (112) for insertion in a hole (H) in a substrate (S). The legs (100), and cranked arms (102) connecting them to receptacles (96) of terminals (95), are so shaped and dimensioned that even where the cavities (62) are arranged in three superposed rows, the lances (112) can be inserted into the holes (H) where these are arranged in only two rows, and with a different spacing from that of the rows of cavities.

  • Patent number: 4855873
Abstract: An improved standoff for use in assembly of an electronics device includes a generally cylindrical body with a bore hole through the longitudinal axis. A plurality of reinforcing fin-shaped members disposed radially about the outer surface provide additional rigidity to the structure as well as providing surfaces at each end of the standoff upon which circuit boards may rest. A plurality of clips may be moved under compression and passed through holes on a circuit board. Once they have passed through, they will elastically return to their normal position thus loosely, but securely, holding the circuit boards together. This allows the standoffs to hold the circuit boards together, without the use of additional nuts and bolts and conventional spacers, and also allows the passing of final assembly screws through the longitudinally bore of the spacer.

Abstract: Solder cup connector comprises stamped and formed terminals loaded into passages of a one-piece housing. Each terminal has a mating portion formed in a first direction from the plane of the stock, a solder cup formed in a second, opposite direction from the plane of the stock, and a transition portion crossing the axis of the terminal to align the mating portion and the solder cup. Flanges extending laterally from the transition portion bend to engage the side walls of a respective passage as a terminal is inserted therein, and further bite into the housing if withdrawal is attempted. The transition portion also serves as a barrier which prevents wicking of solder into the mating portion.

  • Patent number: 4697864
Abstract: A high density receptacle has a right-angled configuration having pins extending from a mounting face for interconnection to a printed circuit board. A second face is mountable to a bulkhead and has three rows of pins mounted in a cavity recessed from the second mounting face for interconnection to a matable plug having socket contacts. The contacts within the receptacle are disposed in three tiers, the contacts being bent around mandrels to form the right-angled bend. Below the mandrels is a contact locating plate having contact receiving slots in line with the contacts. The upper and lower row of contacts are laterally aligned with each other and with a first contact receiving slot. The first slot has two widths, and has a rib extending down along the edges of the slot. When the contacts are placed in the slot, the ribs interferingly hold the contacts in place.
