Within Rigid Coupling Part Shell Patents (Class 439/589)
  • Patent number: 4758174
Abstract: An electrical connector includes opposed matable halves. Each half of the connector includes a rigid outer shell and a one-piece molded elastomeric insert frictionally retained in the respective outer shell. The inserts frictionally retain appropriate electrical terminals. Keys on the inserts cooperate with keyways on the outer shell to ensure proper alignment and polarization. One of the outer shells is mechanically crimped to the cable to provide strain relief and an environmentally sealed connection. One of the inserts is provided with an outwardly extending sealing flange which is tightly urged into contact between the opposed outer shells for environmental sealing. The forward end of one insert defines a peripheral lip which is urged into tight engagement with the mating face of the opposed insert to further contribute to environmental sealing. A right angle adapter molded from an elastomeric material can provide a strain relief transition of the cable through a right angle bend.

  • Patent number: 4753604
Abstract: An apparatus for sealing electrical conductors through a pressure barrier provides high pressure sealing. The apparatus includes a tubular housing with conductor rods which are inserted in the housing, which is then filled with epoxy and allowed to harden. The conductor rods are also insulated. A grommet is press fitted on each end of the housing, by pushing the grommet over installation pins which insert over the conductor rods. A mandrel is used to drive the grommet into compressive contact with the bore of the housing. Once in place, the installation pins are pulled and the mandrel is removed.

  • Patent number: 4740176
Abstract: An electrical connector has male and female housing halves each of which has front and rear housing portions. The rear housing portion has an externally threaded front end, a stop shoulder at the rear extent of the threads and a hole to receive a latch pin. The front housing portion has internal threads at the rear end to engage the threads on the rear housing portion and also has an end face with a recess. The latch pin penetrates the rear housing near the stop shoulder and has a nonsymmetrical head. The latch pin can be rotated between a position in which the head protrudes beyond the stop shoulder and a position in which it does not protrude beyond the stop shoulder. When fully threaded together, the recess is aligned with the latch pin which can be rotated to its latching, protruding position to prevent unthreading of the housing portions.

  • Patent number: 4734057
Abstract: A connector assembly in which a housing has a plurality of side-by-side mutually isolated bores which extend between an entry aperture in a front wall and an aft end. Each bore contains an elongated contact which has a hollow pin receiving end adjacent the aperture in the front wall and a wire receiving barrel at its opposite end subject to a crimping action for engagement with an associated wire lead. A resilient grommet seal mounted at the aft end of the housing has a plurality of side-by-side openings therein aligned with the bores in the housing for sealingly engaging the wire ends. A dielectric spacer within each bore serves to assure high surface resistivity between contacts positioned in adjacent bores.

  • Patent number: 4725242
Abstract: An electrical connector comprises an insulative housing having a cavity therein for sealably receiving a rubber bush. At the bottom wall of the cavity the housing supports a movable plate having a plurality of holes therein for receipt of a respective plurality of contacts of terminated electrical wires. The bush includes a like plurality of holes aligned with the holes in the plate. The plate comprises a projecting cam that is engaged upon insertion of a cam actuator, the plate being moved in response to such insertion to lock the contacts in the housing by the edges of the plate defining the holes therein.

  • Patent number: 4721478
Abstract: A water sealed electrical connector for assembly to a wire terminated by a conductive contact includes an insulative housing having a cavity extending in a front surface thereof and a hole communicating with the cavity and extending into a rear portion of the housing for receipt of the contact. A rubber bush is sealably received in the housing and has a hole in alignment with the housing hole for sealed receipt of the contact. A movable retention member is supported in the housing for latching engagement with the contact. An opening is provided in the housing to permit exterior access to the retention member by a tool, so as to enable the tool to move the retention member for insertion and withdrawal of the contact.

  • Patent number: 4713021
Abstract: A sealed electrical connector has a housing receiving terminated conductors therein, for mating to a corresponding connector. A camming member is latched to the rear of the housing with bores therethrough through which the conductors extend. Wire seals are disposed between the housing and the camming member around each conductor. A sequential latching provides a first or open position for the camming member which allows for insertion of the terminated conductors through bores of the camming member, through respective wire seals and into respective passageways of the housing wherein the terminals are seated. The camming member is then moved axially forward to a second or closed position which cams against the rear sections of the wire seals and urges and deforms them radially inwardly against the conductors so that a pressure-resistant seal is formed between the conductor, the wire seal, and the camming member. Several types of wire seals are usable with the sealed connector.

  • Patent number: 4682832
Abstract: A tubular sleeve of a deformable plastic is longitudinally slotted to define a plurality of laterally separated axially weakened longitudinal columns (62) the respective forward leading edges (64) of which being inserted into an annular passageway (32) formed between an insert (20) disposed in a shell (10) so that the columns curl about and the column medial portions (66) collapse in an accordian-like fashion whereby to radially interferencingly wedge and lock the columns in the passage and thereby to retain the insert in the shell. The curling could be 180.degree. causing the leading edges to retreat coaxially rearward or be 270.degree. causing the leading edges to loop about and be driven radially outward, the leading edges in either possibly engaging its rearward medial portion.
