In the case of fixing a connector to a wiring harness (WH) by winding a tape, upper-surface side ribs (9) extending in a direction substantially perpendicular to a winding direction of a tape (T) are formed to project on opposite end parts of the upper surface of a connector housing (1). In the case of taping, a winding width is set to be wider than the upper-surface side ribs (9). Since this causes opposite end parts of the upper-surface side ribs (9) in an extending direction to serve as parts for catching the tape (T), a situation where the tape (T) is displaced in the extending direction of the upper-surface side ribs (9) can be prevented.

Abstract: The object of the present invention is to provide a general purpose connector with which development costs can be reduced and inventory can be easily controlled even when a plurality of terminal arrangements are required. In order to achieve this object, a general purpose connector according to the present invention includes: a connector housing-having a base including a terminal mounting portion; at least a pair of walls formed on the base; and a plurality of partitions being inserted into the connector housing, thereby forming a receiving space with the connector housing for receiving a mating connector, the receiving space being suitable for the terminal arrangement of the mating connector, wherein mis-insertion prevention groups are formed on the partitions to prevent either incorrect insertion as a result of receiving the wrong mating connector having the same terminal arrangement or reversed insertion as a result of receiving a corresponding mating connector in a reversed orientation.

Abstract: A coupling connector includes: a connector housing of a first connector having an engagement piece formed by projecting an outer wall thereof; and a connector housing of a second connector having an engagement groove formed on an outer wall thereof. In the construction, the engagement piece is engaged with the engagement groove. The engagement piece and engagement groove are formed so as to be engaged with each other in an engagement direction intersecting perpendicularly to a coupling direction where the first and second connectors are coupled to each other. The connector housing of the first connector is slid to the coupling direction with respect to the connector housing of the second connector so that the engagement piece is engaged with the engagement groove so that the first connector and second connector are coupled to each other.

  • Patent number: 6146598
Abstract: The present invention relates to a two-wire pyrotechnic initiator unit intended for motor-vehicle safety. The initiator unit comprises a socket molded over electrodes which are connected, on the one hand, to a pyrotechnic ignition device and, on the other hand, to unstripped electrical wires via deformable conducting pincers capable of cutting the insulating sheath of the wires. The wires are supported by an elastic ring which can be snap-fastened in the socket and which presses the conducting pincers. The initiator unit is useful for manufacturing two wire pyrotechnic gas generators for inflatable cushions or seat belt tensioners in which the unstripped wires are only incorporated at the end of the assembly.

  • Patent number: 6099366
Abstract: A terminal has a lower plate and an upper plate and is accommodated in a groove portion of a connector housing. A covered wire is inserted between the lower plate and upper plate. When a cover is mounted over the groove portion, a protrusion of the cover presses the terminal so that the upper and lower plates are closed. By ultrasonic vibration, a covering portion of the covered wire is melted and removed and cores are pinched between the upper and lower plates and held. An engaging pawl is engaged with the upper plate thereby the pinching condition of the cores being held. As a result, even if contacting load is reduced due to a change of the temperature or like reason, the contact condition between the covered wire and the cores are securely maintained.

Abstract: A method of preventing damage to the metal contacts of multiple contact connectors in wiring harnesses during shipment and preinstallation handling. The method comprises the steps of providing essentially identical connector bodies with complemental, multi-point mechanical interconnections so that the connector bodies can be segregated into pairs and releasably attached to one another in such a way that the connector body surfaces relative to which the metal contacts are most exposed are juxtaposed relative to one another. The mated connectors and the associated wiring harnesses are thereafter packaged and shipped to a location where they are assembled into the vehicle. The mated connector pairs are detached from one another so that they may be separately routed in the course of the installation process.

Abstract: A connector housing for an air bag connector and a method for contacting an air bag connector. A connector housing having at least two sections is provided with locking elements for a pre-lock-in position and a final lock-in position. In the pre-lock-in position, both sections of the housing are arranged apart from one another and the pre-lock-in position is localized by means of a spacer to maintain the pre-lock-in position maintain at a predetermined distance so that electric conductors can be introduced into the connector housing. The spacer ensures that the connector housing is not inadvertently pressed from the pre-lock-in position to the final lock-in position. The connector housing can be pressed together for an insulation-piercing contact in the connector housing, and locked in the final lock-in position. The connector housing is furthermore provided with a belt arrangement, with the spacer being of a one-piece design with one of the elements of the belt arrangement.
