A plurality of electrical contacts which are attached to a plurality of electric cables by core and insulation crimp wings are disposed in the grooves and the cable grips respectively to form a subassembly. An outer housing of thermoplastic insulating material is molded over the subassembly in a die which has a plurality of cable grip parts which cooperate with the respective cable grips of the molded insert to retain and seal around the electric cables individually and to space the electric cables from each other when the outer housing of thermoplastic insulating material is molded over the subassembly.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 1988Date of Patent: December 5, 1989Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Gregory L. Patent number: 4854894Abstract: An intermediate electrical component for application of a molded jacket to form an electrical connector. This component includes a first conductor having a first core formed of strands of metallic wire surrounded by an insulating jacket with a first metallic terminal element mechanically attached to the core at its stripped first end. The component similarly includes a second conductor attached to a second metallic terminal element. The component further includes an electrically insulative body of a thermoplastic material molded about the conductors and terminals with the body having a first end and a second end. The body maintains the terminal elements in spaced relationship with the conductors extending beyond the body second end and the terminal elements being accessible adjacent the body first end. The body has a window extending substantially therethrough and separating the first and second terminal elements adjacent their locations of attachment to the cores of their corresponding conductors.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1988Date of Patent: August 8, 1989Assignee: Cooper Industries, Inc.Inventor: Timothy J. Patent number: 4826443Abstract: An electrical plug connector comprises a dielectric contact-carrying member having signal contact members secured to one side of the contact-carrying member at spaced intervals therealong. A ground contact member is secured to the other side of the contact carrying member with contact sections of the signal contact members and the ground contact member extending from a front end of the contact-carrying member. Conductor-connecting sections of the signal and ground contact members extending along the contact-carrying member. Signal conductors and ground conductors of electrical cables are electrically connected respectively to the conductor-connecting sections of the signal contact members and the ground contact member. A dielectric housing member is secured onto the contact-carrying member and part of the electrical cables so that the contact members from their contact sections to their conductor-connecting sections are covered.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1987Date of Patent: May 2, 1989Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventor: Joseph L. Patent number: 4725243Abstract: A cable termination assembly with an integral polarizing key, and method of molding the same, includes an electrical cable including at least one conductor, at least one electrical contact, a support body for at least preliminarily supporting the electrical contact, the electrical contact having an insulation displacement connection portion, a contacting portion, and an offset between said portions, and the support body having a land for cooperating with the offset to support the electrical contact during insulation displacement connection connecting of the insulation displacement connection portion to such conductor. Part of the electrical contact and the support body cooperate during the mentioned molding to effect a shut off function blocking flow of molding material of the strain relief into an area of the support body where the contacting portion is located. Molding material fills a cell of the support body during molding of the strain relief body to form a polarizing key.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1986Date of Patent: February 16, 1988Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventors: David A.
