  • Patent number: 7682192
Abstract: An electrical coupler includes a connector receptacle having multiple modules. The modules each include a pair of signal conductors and a ground plane or shield, held together by a dielectric module body. The shields are between the pairs of conductors in adjacent modules, and provide electrical shielding between the pairs of signal contacts of different modules. The signal conductors and the shields may be coupled to a board, such as a circuit board. The receptacle may be an angled receptacle, such as a right angle receptacle. The signal conductors of each pair in the receptacle may have a predetermined amount of skew, having different effective electrical lengths. This may allow signal paths through the receptacle and the board to have a combined electrical path that is substantially the same for the signal conductor pair of one of the modules.

  • Patent number: 7651373
Abstract: An electrical connector includes a housing defining a connector mating interface. The housing holds a plurality of contact modules that cooperate to define a connector mounting interface. Each contact module contains signal leads and ground leads arranged in an alternating pattern of individual ground leads and pairs of signal leads positioned side-by-side with respect to a thickness of the contact module. The signal and ground leads have respective mating contacts proximate the mating interface and respective mounting contacts proximate the mounting interface. The mating and mounting contacts within each contact module are arranged in one of first and second contact patterns different from the pattern of the signal and ground leads. The mating and mounting contacts in adjacent contact modules are arranged in respective different ones of the first and second contact patterns.

Abstract: An improved broadside coupled, open pin field connector. The connector incorporates lossy material to selectively dampen resonance within pairs of conductive members connected to ground when the connector is mounted to a printed circuit board. The material may also decrease crosstalk and mode conversion. The lossy material is selectively positioned to substantially dampen resonances along pairs that may be connected to ground without unacceptably attenuating signals carried by other pairs. The lossy material may be selectively positioned near mating contact portions of the conductive members. Multiple techniques are described for selectively positioning the lossy material, including molding, inserting lossy members into a housing or coating surfaces of the connector housing. The lossy material alternatively may be positioned between broad sides of conductive members of a pair.

  • Patent number: 7572147
Abstract: A line cord filter assembly for providing EMI shielding includes at a first end thereof a first plug for connecting to a power source external of a chassis and having at a second end thereof a second plug for connecting to electronic components disposed internally of the chassis. An elongated electrically conductive block has a serpentine shaped channel disposed in an inner surface thereof and extending between the first end and the second end. A electrical cable is disposed in the channel, having an inner electrical conductor and an outer electrical insulator, the electrical conductor electrically connected to the first end and the other end of the electrical conductor electrically connected to the second end. An electrically conductive, deformable sheet is disposed on the electrically conductive block over the outer electrical insulator with portions of the sheet projecting into portions of the channels around portions of the outer electrical insulator disposed within the channel.
