  • Patent number: 5816866
Abstract: A tilting terminal clamp having a clamping plate with a central, raised, frusto-conical annulus is provided with an aperture wall having a straight line portion to engage a retaining ring of a screw. This straight wall portion is preferably coined into the annulus aperture which has an upper, inclined wall portion of a greater diameter than the diameter of the straight portion in order to receive a fillet joining the head of the screw to the screw shank. To avoid cutting strands of wire from a clamped, stranded terminal wire, the lower peripheral edge is formed without a sharp burr edge, and a burr edge is formed on the upwardly facing side of the clamping plate. Increased holding power for gripping the terminal wire is provided by extending the serrations from the frusto-conical annulus to the outer peripheral edge of the clamping plate, and by making the serrations increasingly wider and deeper as they flare outwardly from the annulus to the outer, peripheral edge of the clamping plate.

  • Patent number: 5747741
Abstract: A screw terminal for an electrical connection of an eye of a cable comprises a casing, a first clamping plate axially movably but not rotatably mounted in the casing, the axial movement of the first clamping plate being limited by an inner surface of the casing. The first clamping plate defines a taphole and has laterally bent up, axially extending spring tongues. A second clamping plate is fixedly mounted in the casing, the second clamping plate defining a taphole axially aligned with the tap hole in the first clamping plate. A clamping screw axially moves the first clamping plate between a closed position and an open position limited by the inner casing surface wherein the space between the first clamping plate and the second clamping plate has a maximum axial length.

  • Patent number: 5722840
Abstract: A ground clamp for clamping to a cable shield to provide a ground connection employs a U-shaped yoke. A keeper has a driver which threadably engages thread surfaces at the interior side of the yoke legs. The keeper has a clamp jaw which may be compressively engaged against a cable shield received in an aperture defined by the yoke. A surface of the clamp jaw and a surface of the driver have complementary radially extending projections and grooves, respectively. The projections are received by the grooves when the clamp jaw engages the cable shield to resist relative movement between the driver and the clamp jaw. The yoke then connects to a common ground point via a flexible ground wire connection. A protective shoe may be inserted between the cable conductors and the clamp jaw to prevent crushing of the connectors.

Abstract: A ground clamp for clamping to a cable shield to provide a round connection employs a U-shaped yoke. A keeper has a driver which threadably engages thread surfaces at the interior side of the yoke legs. The keeper has a clamp jaw which may be compressively engaged against a cable shield received in an aperture defined by the yoke. The yoke connects to a common ground point via a ground connector member. The ground connector member has a grounding portion which may comprise a flexible ground connector or a rigid conductive plate. A bracing portion of the ground connector member is connected to the grounding portion by a ramp portion which projects laterally towards the cable. The bracing portion includes two arms which project laterally from a center connector portion. The connector portion and arms define a horseshoe-shaped stress relief clamp which may be crimped into engagement with the cable to mechanically connect the ground clamp with the cable outer jacket.

  • Patent number: 5674079
Abstract: A ground lug comprising a collar which defines a receptacle for receiving a ground wire. A machine screw is threadably positionable in an aperture in the collar upper surface to engage a clamping plate and clamp a ground wire positioned between the collar and the clamping plate lower surface. The clamping plate has first, second, and third segments. The first segment has an aperture for bolting the ground lug to a ground point. The second segment has an axially extending tang and defines a first transverse shoulder. The third segment has a first end portion having axially extending tabs defining a second transverse shoulder. The third segment is inserted in the collar receptacle wherein the first shoulder engages the collar first end and the collar first end is received between the third segment and the tang. Rotating the clamping plate causes the second shoulder to engage the collar second end. The clamping plate may be further secured in place by crimping the tab towards the collar.

Abstract: A fixed terminal hingably supports a movable terminal of a terminal device. A terminal screw passes through a hole in the fixed terminal to engage a threaded hole in the movable terminal. A captivating device prevents the terminal screw from being withdrawn from the fixed terminal. The terminal screw, when tightened, clamps an element to be connected between the fixed and movable terminals. The captivating device, when the terminal screw is loosened, urges the movable terminal away from the fixed terminal to separate the two, thereby positively releasing the element connected therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5547404
Abstract: A fixed spacer hot line tap has a body with a base and a run-conductor groove. An eyebolt passes through the base and has a tip disposed between the base and the run-conductor groove. The eyebolt has a tip, on which is attached an extender having at least one spline on an outer surface thereof and a tip. The extender is directed through a hole in a spacer, and is press-fit therein because of the at least one spline. The spacer has an open volume defined by the foot, a first leg and a second leg, and a main transfer component, across which electric current passes from a run conductor to a tap conductor. A pad is disposed within the open volume by attachment to the tip of the extender, which reaches there through the hole in the foot. In use, a tap conductor is disposed between the pad and the main transfer component, and is secured there by a tightening of the eyebolt. The tap conductor remains clamped there when the eyebolt is withdrawn because of the press-fit of the extender in the hole in the foot.

  • Patent number: 5292263
Abstract: An electrical connector includes a cage which defines a wire receiving area aligned with a wire insertion axis, an elongated slot oriented obliquely with respect to the wire insertion axis, a clamp guided by the slot for movement toward and away from the wire receiving area, and a clamp screw rotatably mounted in the cage to move the clamp toward and away from the wire receiving area. The cage includes side walls and top walls, and the top walls are mechanically interlocked to resist separation. The clamp defines elongated ribs that engage the elongated slots, and the elongated ribs are configured to resist rotation of the clamp in the cage. The clamp is configured such that a portion of the clamp cantilevers beyond the free end of the screw when the screw is rotated to bring the clamp closely adjacent the contact surface. The screw is held in place in the cage by transverse slots defined by wings of the cage. These transverse slots intersect the elongated guide slots that receive the ribs of the clamp.
