Patent number: 8951309Abstract: A hay-based log formed of a combination of pieces of hay and a binding agent. The hay pieces and the binding agent are compressed together into a solid shape. The hay-based log is fabricated so that the majority of the hay-binder combination is made of the hay. The binder is selected to be sufficient to keep the hay pieces joined together in its selected shape. The binder may be wax paraffin, plastic, corn starch or potato starch or any combination thereof. The hay-based log is fabricated by compressing the hay-binder mixture together with sufficient pressure and temperature to enable the hay pieces to stay together and then cooling the mixture without heat or pressure.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2014Date of Patent: February 10, 2015Inventor: Peter Bragdon

Publication number: 20080216396Abstract: A processed fuel pellet is disclosed, and contains a ground corn product mixed with other commodities that establish the framework for an alternative fuel source burned in pellet stoves and corn stoves. The composition is comprised preferably of about 50% ground shelled corn, about 25% wheat midds as an igniting agent, about 20% soy hulls as a bonding agent and about 5% pulverized limestone as an anti-caking agent. Said ground shelled corn can be varied in alternative embodiments up to a maximum of 75% of the corn component, and other ingredients are adjusted accordingly to provide useful compositions. The pellet produced is a more efficient, hotter burning fuel source that has a low soot output, is economical to produce and environmentally friendly, and a perfect fuel to be used in home heating. A method for producing said fuel pellet is also disclosed which will ensure proper composition and structure.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2007Publication date: September 11, 2008Inventor: Lloyd G. Patent number: 6709472Abstract: The novel features of this invention include a bio-based binding-agent and a manufacturing process which—together with conventional production equipment—comprise a very low-cost system for making strong and water-insoluble products from a variety of particulate feedstocks, including finely-divided lignocellulosic fiber and particles, or fines, of chemically-inert materials. This binding-agent—process combination is uniquely suited to the manufacture of water-impermeable agglomerates from granular and powdery materials—including minerals, metal particles and carboniferous fines no courser than about one cm—and to creation of composite materials from particulated forestry residues, crop wastes and paper byproducts. Of particular commercial interest is the production of synthetic fuel from moist fine coal without the input of the thermal energy normally required for dewatering and drying the feedstock, and for curing prior art bonding agents.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 2000Date of Patent: March 23, 2004Inventor: Arthur Ferretti
