  • Patent number: 5879214
Abstract: A convertible toy that can be ridden by a child alternatively: (i) floating on water in a swimming pool or (ii) downhill sledding on snow covered hills. The toy has an elongate hull for buoyantly floating the toy and child on a water surface, and for sliding downhill on a frozen snow covered hill surface. For example, the hull may be a hollow blow molded plastic body with downwardly extending ribs having a flat bottom surface. Handlebars are mounted to a steering shaft housed within the hull for steering the direction of the toy. The steering shaft can be releaseably mounted with a water jet nozzle and alternatively with a snow riding ski. The toy mimics both a snowmobile and a jet-powered watercraft, for use in summer and winter. The water jet nozzle is supplied with pressurized water from a swimming pool filtration system via a flexible hose.

  • Patent number: 5766052
Abstract: The floatation device is a combination of an adult water exerciser and a child float. The floatation device allows a child to float safely and securely on the water while an adult uses the device as a kickboard to push it or as a leg buoy to pull it. The floatation device includes a buoyant board and in the middle of the board is a generally circular opening through which an adult places a child onto a holding seat which hangs down directly underneath the opening. Attached to the rear of the board and directed over the opening is a canopy which is designed to shield the child from the sun and from splashes. The canopy includes a canopy window through which an adult pushing the board from behind may monitor the child. The floatation device also includes a handlebar attached to the rear of the board. An adult may grip the handlebar and use the floatation device like a kickboard.

  • Patent number: 5628658
Abstract: A flotation device that converts an existing flexible round foam flotation piece into a floating seat for recreational and/or exercise purposes. The flotation device is water resistant, lightweight, flexible and easy to carry and store. The round flotation piece, commonly known as a noodle, is inserted through a sleeve in the flotation device wherein the floating seat then takes shape. Due to the flexible characteristics of the invention, a wide range of body shapes and sizes provide a comfortable and stable flotation aid that allows the user to remain mostly submerged in the water with unrestricted movement of the arms and legs. In addition to the floating chair concept, other configurations utilizing the round flotation piece are possible by utilizing a reconfigured attachment device. For example, a flotation device can be made to form a floating raft by using a plurality of sleeves to mate with three round flotation pieces.

  • Patent number: 5095559
Abstract: A heating apparatus comprises a closed vessel having thermally conducting walls and containing a gas that is heated by one or more electrical heating elements in the vessel. The vessel is received in a duct through which air is blown. The air is heated by the heat transferred to the vessel walls by the gas in the vessel. Pressure and thermostatic switches in the circuit of the heating element communicate with the gas in the vessel and provide a double-safety, over-temperature power shut-off. The heating apparatus may be used to blow hot air into water in a tub through hoses leading to inlet openings or to an air distribution mat placed in the tub. The bubbles of hot air heat the water and produce strong agitation. A special raft receives the air distribution mat, which heats water in the raft by bubbling hot air through it. The heating apparatus can also be used for space heating, warming and drying towels and clothes, hair drying and grooming animals.

  • Patent number: 4725253
Abstract: A personal flotation device for protecting the life of an infant human has a support housing with a back rest, a seat portion, and side wings co-extensive with each. A protective hood is pivotally mounted from the upper portion of the backrest wings. A support stand having a ballast weight contained at the lower end thereof is pivotally mounted from the area joining the backrest and set portion of the device. This permits accurate adjustment for various sizes and weights of children with whom the device is designed to be used. Appropriate signalling and attention attracting apparatus is also incorporated with this device. Also, a shoulder harness, seat belt, crotch belt and adjusting buckles therefor are provided.

  • Patent number: 4720280
Abstract: An improvement to a wave ski comprising an adjustable seat which slides longitudinally along a track located on the upper surface of the wave ski and a fin associated with the seat, whereby the user can simultaneously adjust the longitudinal position of the seat by the use of footrests and the fin on the wave ski. In another embodiment of the invention, the adjustable seat which moves longitudinally along a track located on the upper surface of the wave ski and the fin associated with the seat includes a slot extending longitudinally along or adjacent to the center line of the wave ski and is adapted to receive the fin or portion of the seat, whereby the user can again simultaneously adjust the longitudinal position of the seat and fin on the wave ski.

  • Patent number: 4613311
Abstract: An automatically disconnecting connector apparatus for a floatable device, such as a fisherman's float tube, includes one coupling member having an aperture and another coupling member having another aperture. The other coupling member is bifurcated so that it can receive the first-mentioned coupling member therein. In this relationship, the apertures of the coupling members are aligned for receiving a shaft of a pin member which is retained in the apertures by gravity when the floatable device is in an upright position. The pin member is automatically extracted in response to gravity when the floatable device is overturned, thereby automatically disconnecting the connector apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4606728
Abstract: A water ski aid for supporting a water skier includes an inflatable seat member. A pair of inflatable arms is used to secure the skier to the inflatable seat member. The free ends of the arms overlap the body of the skier when in a secure position in the seat member. The arms separate when the skier gains sufficient speed to overcome the drag of the inflatable seat member.

  • Patent number: 4580988
Abstract: A float (10) is disclosed for providing vertical, side-to-side and front-to-back support to a user. Float (10) includes a seat (11) for supporting the user in a pre-determined astride, sidesaddle or reclined position. First and second buoyant elongate body supports (20 and 21) are each secured by a hinge to opposite ends of seat (11). The body supports (20 and 21) support opposite sides of the torso of the user depending upon the manner in which the user sits on the seat. The body supports (20 and 21) are freely and independently moveable about their respective hinges (12 and 13) within a relatively wide angle of travel to permit adjustment to varying body positions and movements. According to one embodiment of the invention, auxiliary stabilizing floats (33, 34 and 39, 40) are telescoped within bores (30 and 31) of the body supports (20' and 21'). By extending the auxiliary floats (33, 34 and 39, 40) greater resistance to side-to-side or front-to-back tipping is provided.

  • Patent number: 4435165
Abstract: A flotation device for supporting a person in water comprises an elongate tubular frame including at least one body-support member, and front and rear float assemblies mounted on the frame. The rear float assembly comprises two float elements spaced apart transversely of the elongate frame, and the float elements are so disposed that, when the device is floating in the water, the body-support member is below water level, so that a person using the device is partly in the water.

  • Patent number: 4384857
Abstract: A submersible floatation structure is formed of lengths of tubing which are interconnected by fittings. In one embodiment, the tubing end fittings are formed of a polymeric material, such as polyvinyl chloride. The tubing lengths and fittings are interconnected to form a selectable configuration, which, in some embodiments, may be in the form of a reclining chair, a raft, a buoy, or a life preserver ring. Valves are provided for allowing water to enter the structure and thereby provide a ballast which serves selectably to submerge the structure, or render the structure for use on land.
