  • Patent number: 5083326
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for protecting a swimming pool against damage due to forces created as water in the pool freezes and expands. The apparatus includes a hull that floats on the surface of the water and compresses as the water freezes and expands. A pair of straps attach the hull to a pair of bean bags to keep the float in a selected position near the side of the pool. The hull has a pair of side members and a pair of end members, forming a watertight hull. The side members are connected together along a common edge to form a V-shaped cross section. A plurality of weights are located in a semicircular slot along the common edge to keep the common edge downward in the water.

  • Patent number: 5074816
Abstract: A multiple purpose bucket (10 or 110) can be used as a floatation device, an underwater viewing device, or a bailer. The bucket (10 or 110) includes a body (12 or 112), an open top (14 or 114), a clear plastic bottom (16 or 116), and a base (20 or 120). The base (20 or 120) extends beyond the clear plastic bottom (16 or 116). The base (20 or 120) has a floatation means (21) molded therewithin which gives the bucket (10 or 110) buoyancy. Passages (36, 38, and 122) allow water to quickly fill the cavity created by the base (20 or 120) when the bucket (10 or 110) is being used as an underwater viewing device. Hand grips (28 and 128) are grasped by the user when using the bucket (10 or 110) as a bailer.

  • Patent number: 4986267
Abstract: An improved underwater breathing apparatus includes a net bag suspended from an interior portion of a donut-shaped float with a compressed air diving tank being supported within the bag. One or more breathing hoses may be attached to the tank, and each hose may be of a fifty foot length or more. Conventional second stage regulators are attached to the free ends of the hoses so that divers may perform shallow water dives without the necessity of carrying compressed air cylinders on their backs.

  • Patent number: 4960399
Abstract: A hand-portable console device for use by underwater divers. A housing having at least a forward, water-vented storage compartment adapted to have an external illumination mounted thereon. The housing can also have an aft compartment. Attachment to the housing is a collapsible game bag. A bladder inflatable from a diver's air tank can be fitted inside the game bag to make a floatation device. Affixed or integral with the housing are ambient water parameter indicators, e.g., depth, temperature. The housing can also have a writing surface to enable divers to communicate with each other by writing messages on said surface.

  • Patent number: 4834015
Abstract: An anchor device for use with inflatable rafts and cushions includes a compartmentalized cylindrical tray. The tray is designed to store beverage containers and the personal effects of an individual floating on a raft or cushion. A sunshade may be adjustably secured to the tray. A pair of attaching loops are utilized to connect the floating tray to an anchor and to an inflatable raft or cushion. A spoon type anchor is disclosed for use in lakes and ponds and a weighted anchor is disclosed for use in pools. The anchor and raft attaching loops may be pivotally mounted on the circular tray. The sunshade mounting socket may be slidably mounted. A styrofoam filled compartment may be provided in the cylindrical tray for ensuring flotation.

  • Patent number: 4815761
Abstract: A device for use in making beach entry scuba dives by assisting the diver to transport scuba tanks and other diving gear across a beach or like land area and then serve as an off-shore floating work platform and dive flag holder has a quadrilateral frame, a roller unit and a handler unit. The frame is formed of hollow tubing and includes a force member, an aft member, and a pair of side members. The roller unit includes first and second arms that extend from the frame beyond the aft member, a buoyant roller, and bearings rotatably supporting the roller between the arms outboard of and parallel to the aft member. The handler unit includes third and fourth arms that extend from the frame beyond the fore member and a tubular handle member supported by the third and fourth arms outboard of the fore member. The frame carries a support surface and straps to support and retain tanks and other gear on the device.

  • Patent number: 4781638
Abstract: A variable drag and buoyancy kickboard for a swimmer comprising a first portion, a second portion, and a plurality of pairs of hand grasping locations. The second portion extends from a lateral edge of the first portion. The first portion defines a first planar surface and the second portion defines a second planar surface. The first and second planar surfaces form an obtuse angle. The first and second portions having a periphery upon which the hand grasping locations are disposed. Each pair of hand grasping locations are laterally opposite each other on the periphery. Grasping different pairs of hand grasping locations varies the flow characteristics of the kickboard by varying its position in the water. Thus, the drag of the kickboard may be varied.
