Abstract: Substrates, optionally coated with an undercoating, having grafted thereto one or more non-fouling materials are described herein. The non-fouling, polymeric material can be grafted to a variety of functionalized substrate materials, particularly polymeric substrates and/or polymeric undercoatings immobilized on a substrate. The compositions described herein are highly resistant protein absorption, particularly in complex media and retain a high degree of non-fouling activity over long periods of time. The compositions described herein may also demonstrate antimicrobial and/or anti-thrombogenic activity.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the production of cellulose shaped bodies according to the dry-wet extrusion method (Lyocell method) with high degree of whiteness and bioactive action for use in the textile sector and paper production. In the context of the invention, the term “bioactive” refers to antimicrobial efficacy, based on the antibacterial action of the element silver, which is used as nanoscale reagent for increasing the efficacy thereof. The chemically inert and, at the same time, bactericidal effect is used in the production of sports and leisure clothing with a high degree of whiteness and papers with a long shelf life. Use is possible in the medical sector, for example, for wound dressings, textiles for hospitals, and in the filter and packaging industry.

Abstract: A medical film that is excellent in biocompatibility and bioabsorbability and has an excellent strength in suturing and bonding is provided. A reinforcing material 12 made of a biodegradable polymer is placed in a gelatin solution so as to allow the solution to infiltrate in the reinforcing material 12 and then the gelatin is dried. This allows the gelatin that has infiltrated entirely in an internal part of the reinforcing material 12 to gel, thereby forming a gelatin film 11. Thus, a medical film 1 in which the reinforcing material 12 and the gelatin film 11 are integrated is obtained. The gelatin film 11 preferably is a cross-linked gelatin film.

Knit fabrics of this type possess a desirable combination of good thermal protective properties, provided the specified high level of staple fiber blend uniformity is achieved, along with very useful abrasion resistance, bursting strength and drying time characteristics.

Abstract: Absorbent cloths (cooling towels) impregnated with a formulation including purified water, denatured alcohol, Aloe vera, menthol, and at least one scented essential oil, have been developed for quickly and conveniently cooling the skin. A typical cooling towel as described herein is made from 100% cotton terry cloth, made of all-natural ingredients that are environmentally friendly, and is convenient and easy to use. The cooling towels described herein can be used to cool a user's skin in a variety of settings and applications (e.g. while playing golf, for relief from menopausal hot flashes, etc.). A cooling towel is capable of providing instant cooling relief to the user without refrigerating or hydrating the cooling towel. Placing a cooling towel around the neck, for example, aids in lowering body temperature by helping dissipate body heat to provide immediate relief.

Abstract: Performance wear made with hydrophobic fabric that maximizes evaporative cooling of the human body by maintaining perspiration and moisture at the surface of the skin whereby heat is more readily transferred from the skin by evaporative cooling thereby providing more effective core temperature regulation. The fabric may be natural or synthetic fiber or fiber blends having hydrophobic (e.g. water resistant) characteristics. The fabric is used to produce performance wear whereby the hydrophobic characteristics provide moisture management function by preventing moisture from migrating from the skin to the fabric. The hydrophobic performance fabrics are also preferably impregnated with antimicrobials, such as antibacterial, anti-odor, and antifungal substances, as well as flame retardant substances. The performance wear may comprise compression wear formed of a blend of polyester and spandex to provide increased movement, comfort, and fit.

Abstract: Provided herein are processes for topically applying an antimicrobial finish to a textile substrate, such as a yarn, a fabric, a composite, or an assembled article (for example, a garment). Specifically, the antimicrobial finish is based on hindered amine compounds that are applied in an aqueous bath (such as a commercial or home laundry setting), using the factors of pH and compound solubility to promote the formation of a durable antimicrobial halamine finish. Advantageously, the antimicrobial finish, which may be applied to fabrics made of any of a variety of fiber types and combinations of fiber types, has been found to be durable to repeated launderings.
