    Abstract: The present invention provides a fabric and a fabric structure made of yarns with reduced water absorption. The fabric comprises yarns and interstices between the yarns, the interstices between the yarns having an average width of greater than 100 ?m. At least one of the yarns is comprised of multiple fibers. Said at least one yarn has voids between the fibers wherein the voids are filled up with a polymer material. The interstices remain open and the size of the interstices is the same as before the treatment. The filling of the voids between the fibers with the polymer material prevents the absorption of water into said voids and therefore leads to reduced water absorption of the fabric. The polymer material is substantially only located within the voids of the yarn and has embedded the fibers within the outer surface of said yarn.

Binder warps are interlaced above and below the central tension warps in alternating sequence, with at least one of the binder warps interlacing upper and lower wefts other than those interlaced by an adjacent binder warp. Interlacing of the middle wefts by the central tension warps locks the wefts in place, providing enhanced resistance to faster pullout. The lack of straight tension warps provides a highly flexible fabric that can be used in multi-ply applications. A conveyor belt incorporating one or more plies of the inventive fabric is disclosed, as is a method for manufacturing the belt.

    Abstract: A method is disclosed for using discarded carpet segments or other recycled textiles to make wood-like material in sheets that are comparable to plywood. The carpet segments or other recycled materials are shredded, then layered across a slow-moving conveyor to form a thick, low-density belt of fibers. This belt is compressed between rollers, and then needle-punched, using needles with surface barbs that pull fibers downward and upward. This needle-punching causes fibers inside the mat to be pulled into vertical alignment (i.e., perpendicular to the top and bottom surfaces of a horizontal mat), to form a needle-punched mat that will hold together without chemical adhesives. A binder material is then applied to at least one and possibly both surfaces of the mat, by means such as spreading or spraying a liquid binder on either or both surfaces of the mat, or stretching a continuous film of the binder material across either or both surfaces of the mat.

    Abstract: A multi-layered woven side air curtain has pre-configured air holding cavities and a polymeric film laminated thereto. An adhesive polyether polyurethane or polyester polyurethane prime coat layer is first coated onto a textile substrate, and then a polymeric film, such as polyamide, polyolefin, or polyurethane is laminated thereto. The textile substrate may be woven of nylon, polyester, or other synthetic fibers. According to an alternative embodiment, a multi-layered composite film product is disclosed that can be used as a film laminate without the need for a prime coat adhesive layer being first applied to the textile substrate. In such a case, the adhesive prime coat is applied to the textile substrate in a single step via the film laminate itself. The side air curtain can be pre-configured or prefabricated to numerous varied designs and shapes prior to coating.
