  • Patent number: 7651118
Abstract: The invention is directed to textile fabrics for use in air bags and side curtains having at least one coating layer of polyvinyl chloride thereon. The textile fabric can be a flat sheet, such as used in driver side air bags, or a multi-layered woven textile having preconfigured air-holding cavities therein for use in side curtains such as are installed in sport utility vehicles (SUVs). In certain embodiments of the invention coating layers of elastomeric polyurethane may be applied to the textile fabric in addition to the coating layer of polyvinyl chloride. In certain instances, the textile fabrics are coated on one side only, and in others they may be coated on both sides, i.e., on opposed first and second surfaces. In either case, the polyvinyl chloride coatings, whether alone or in combination with other polymeric coatings, provide the air bags or side curtains with superior air-holding characteristics.

  • Patent number: 7166195
Abstract: A grooved perforated layer for use in a papermakers' fabric is provided. The grooves serve to diffuse flow at the surface of the perforated layer so as to reduce the pressure drop across the layer and thereby reduce the migration of fines. In this manner, the light/dark pattern associated with the fines is avoided and the quality of the resulting paper sheet is improved.

  • Patent number: 7105234
Abstract: Disclosed is a conductive, flame-retardant polymeric fabric composed of a woven or non-woven nylon, polyester or acrylic fabric. A surface of the fabric is provided with a flame-retardant layer applied by coating the flame-retardant directly onto the fabric surface. Disposed on the flame-retardant layer is a conductive metal applied preferably by vapor deposition. The resulting article not only has a surface resistance of less than one ohm/sq, but also the article has an Underwriter Laboratories very thin material (VTM) vertical bum test rating of zero rendering the article suitable for use as an electromagnetic interference shielding fabric.

  • Patent number: 7067443
Abstract: A multilayer composite body includes thermoplastic layers and layers of natural fibers bound with thermoplastic synthetic material. The composite body has at least one reinforcing layer made of an open-cell fabric of melting fibers. The reinforcing layer is penetrated on one or both sides by the melting thermoplastic synthetic material of adjoining natural-fiber layers and is integrated there for reinforcement. The reinforcing layer can also be disposed in addition or only between natural-fiber and pure thermoplastic layers or between thermoplastic layers. Such a composite body has excellent mechanical properties, in particular with regard to bending stress and impact resistance.

  • Patent number: 7053012
Abstract: A cover (200) for inhibiting corrosion of a metallic object over which the cover is placed. The cover has an inner surface (104) defined by a liquid-permeable layer (202) and an outer surface (102) defined by a liquid-impermeable layer (204). A moisture-absorbing layer (206) is sandwiched between the liquid-permeable layer and the liquid-impermeable layer. The liquid-permeable layer allows vapor and liquid moisture beneath the cover to be absorbed into the moisture-absorbing layer to reduce the amount of moisture beneath the cover. The liquid-impermeable layer repels environmental liquid moisture, such as rain, sea spray, dew and the like and prevents such moisture from penetrating the cover. A radar-influencing layer (308) and vapor corrosion inhibitors (214) may be included in the cover. A method of protecting an object is also disclosed. The method includes covering a metallic object with cover (200).

  • Patent number: RE39761
Abstract: A laminate wall structure which can be used as an exterior wall in manufactured housing and site built construction is made up of a low density layer having a density of from about one-half pound to three pounds per cubic foot, a second, reinforcing layer laminated to the low density layer and, optionally, a cellulosic layer laminated to the second, reinforcing layer. The low density layer is preferably a foamed polymer layer, the second, reinforcing layer is a polymer fabric, a biaxially oriented polymeric film or a fiberglass reinforced material and the cellulosic layer can be impregnated with an adhesive and/or resin in order to strengthen the laminate structure. This laminate wall structure has a low weight and yet is strong enough to meet wind zone wall diaphragm requirements for housing construction.
