Abstract: A center electrode of a spark plug has an oval shape in cross section as an identification mark. An electrode positioning apparatus fixedly holds a ground electrode and rotates an insulator together with a center electrode relative to the ground electrode. During the rotation, a signal light is irradiated toward the center electrode and the shape of the identification mark is detected from the received signal light. When the shape of the mark comes to correspond to a predetermined pattern, the center electrode is stopped from rotating and fitted solidly with the ground electrode.

  • Patent number: 5680009
Abstract: To permit easy assembly of a filament for a halogen incandescent lamp hav a filament holder frame (4) to retain an essentially planar filament (11) in position, the frame is made of two pre-manufactured identical frame halves (4a, 4b). Both frame halves have a cross element (7a, 7b), having a plurality of filament holders (10a, 10b) secured thereto, and two support strut portions (8a, 9a, 8b, 9b) at the ends thereof. To assemble the lamp, the two frame halves, together with the filament (11), are placed in a suitable jig, and the filament ends are threaded on one of the support strut portions (8a, 8b) of each one of the frame halves. The filament (11) is hooked on the filament holder (10a, 10b) and, by spreading apart the frame halves, the filament is stretched. The support strut portions (8a, 8b; 9a, 9b) are then connected by welding, thus completing the frame (4), and retaining the filament in stretched position.

  • Patent number: 5322463
Abstract: A process for assembling a laser and an apparatus used to assemble a laser is disclosed. The laser contains, among other components, a semiconductor chip, a lens and an optical fiber. The chip and lens are disposed in a housing. The optical fiber is disposed in a transmission assembly. The process replaces a tedious manual method for aligning the lens housing and the transmission assembly. The process uses an apparatus which separates each of the plurality of leads on the lens housing from each other. The apparatus restrains the lens housing while the housing is placed in contact with the transmission assembly. The apparatus provides electrical contacts which are placed into electrical connection with the leads on the lens housing. Electrical current is then provided which is conducted to the chip. The chip generates a beam of light which is focused by the lens into the fiber and then transmitted by the fiber. The power of the beam of light in the fiber is measured.

  • Patent number: 5071380
Abstract: A fluorescence pattern forming method and apparatus includes electron beams being irradiated over a face panel, on which a fluorescence layer is formed, to form a fluorescence pattern on a color CRT. The fluorescence layer is formed by coating a slurry of fluorescence substance. According to predetermined pattern designing data, a control device causes the electron beams to be irradiated over the fluorescence layer on the face panel so that the fluorescence luminesces. This luminescence is detected by a light detector located on the convex side of the face panel. A correcting device gives a correcting signal to the control device to correct the irradiated position according to the detected light quantity.

Abstract: Process and apparatus are disclosed for use in the manufacture of a color cathode ray tube having a shadow mask with a central pattern of apertures mounted in tension on a transparent flat front panel. The mask aperture pattern is registered with a cathodoluminescent screen pattern of corresponding geometry and position on an inner surface of the panel. The shadow masks and front panels are respectively interchangeable. In a preferred arrangement, signals are developed which are indicative of the positions of a mechanically stretched mask aperture pattern and an associated front panel screen pattern relative to a reference or to each other. Responsive to such signals, there is effected a relative positioning of the mask and screen until registration between the patterns is achieved.
