Patent number: 7346983Abstract: A spark plug is provided, for a provisional bending process for manufacturing the spark plug, as a work in a condition where an earth electrode is straight and substantially in parallel with an axial line of a center electrode. In the provisional bending process, two searchers individually facing the tip of the center electrode with the tip located therebetween are arranged, positions of the searchers in a first direction perpendicular to the axial line being adjusted for every spark plug. Then a bending punch is driven to press a second end-surface of the other end of the earth electrode down to the searchers so that the earth electrode is provisionally bent at a substantially perpendicular angle to the axial line, the second end-surface being opposite to the first end-surface. Preferably, before the provisional bending process, positioning the work and correcting the position and tilt of the work are performed.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2004Date of Patent: March 25, 2008Assignee: Denso CorporationInventors: Syushi Oda, Shigeki Tamura

Patent number: 7145665Abstract: The light emitted from a focal position-detecting light source 38 and reflected from a reflector 12 is projected onto a screen 341, and a projected image on the screen 341 is detected by a focal position-detecting camera 35. Based on this projected image, the focal position-detecting light source 38 is moved by a position adjusting system 37 so as to place the focal position-detecting light source 38 at a focal position of the reflector 12, and the position of the focal position-detecting light source 38 at this time is detected as the focal position of the reflector 12. When the focal position of the reflector 12 is detected, the projected image on the screen 341 detected by the focal position-detecting camera 35 is used, and, therefore, the conventional measurement by a three dimensional measuring instrument is made unnecessary, thereby improving the working efficiency.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2002Date of Patent: December 5, 2006Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Yoshiji Iwadare, Kazuto Shinohara, Shohei Fujisawa

Patent number: 7086919Abstract: A detection and repair system includes an optical microscope, an image-retrieving device, an emission detector, a data controller, and a laser beam generator. When detecting the location of a defect, the system charges a detected region of an organic electroluminescent device with a negative bias or low forward bias before the device is lighted on. Then, the emission detector detects the locations of defects, which generate emission such as photons, thermal or IR emission, in an enlarged image. The laser beam generator generates a laser beam, which is used to isolate one of the defects. Furthermore, this invention also discloses a method for detecting and repairing an organic electroluminescent device.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 2003Date of Patent: August 8, 2006Assignee: RiTdisplay CorporationInventors: Meng-Chieh Liao, Jiun-Haw Lee, Chi-Chung Chen

Patent number: 7021980Abstract: An object of the present invention is to efficiently adjust a positional difference (measured along the direction perpendicular to the center electrode axis) between the center electrode (CE) axis and the center of the earth electrode (EE). The CE tip and EE tip surface are illuminated from the front of the EE tip surface, thereby picking up their images. The image processing unit calculates the positional difference between the CE axis and EE center. Here, the EE center is defined by an area centroid of the EE tip surface area, thereby improving a measurement accuracy. The adjustment unit connected with the image processing unit causes the actual positional difference to decrease by moving EE by the that calculated positional difference, taking a prescribed spring-back into consideration. EE is moved by a jig moved by a screw rotated by a motor.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2003Date of Patent: April 4, 2006Assignee: Denso CorporationInventor: Takeshi Hanai

Patent number: 6264520Abstract: A laser beam is emitted form one side to a pair of square holes, while an electron gun assembly is being rotated on the tube axis of a color cathode-ray tube. The resulting diffraction pattern is sensed. When diffraction images included in the diffraction pattern are processed and a zero-order diffraction image and at least a first-order diffraction image are sensed in the pattern, the distance between the center of the zero-order diffraction image and the center of the first-order diffraction image is measured. The rotational position at which the distance is the smallest is sensed. The electron gun assembly is rotated to the position and held in place. Consequently, high-speed positioning is done with high rotation accuracy, which helps manufacture high-quality color cathode-ray tubes.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1999Date of Patent: July 24, 2001Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventors: Tatsuya Yamazaki, Maki Yoshida, Shoichi Yokoyama, Kazumasa Hirayama

Patent number: 5322463Abstract: A process for assembling a laser and an apparatus used to assemble a laser is disclosed. The laser contains, among other components, a semiconductor chip, a lens and an optical fiber. The chip and lens are disposed in a housing. The optical fiber is disposed in a transmission assembly. The process replaces a tedious manual method for aligning the lens housing and the transmission assembly. The process uses an apparatus which separates each of the plurality of leads on the lens housing from each other. The apparatus restrains the lens housing while the housing is placed in contact with the transmission assembly. The apparatus provides electrical contacts which are placed into electrical connection with the leads on the lens housing. Electrical current is then provided which is conducted to the chip. The chip generates a beam of light which is focused by the lens into the fiber and then transmitted by the fiber. The power of the beam of light in the fiber is measured.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1993Date of Patent: June 21, 1994Assignee: AT&T Bell LaboratoriesInventor: Li Young

Patent number: 5071380Abstract: A fluorescence pattern forming method and apparatus includes electron beams being irradiated over a face panel, on which a fluorescence layer is formed, to form a fluorescence pattern on a color CRT. The fluorescence layer is formed by coating a slurry of fluorescence substance. According to predetermined pattern designing data, a control device causes the electron beams to be irradiated over the fluorescence layer on the face panel so that the fluorescence luminesces. This luminescence is detected by a light detector located on the convex side of the face panel. A correcting device gives a correcting signal to the control device to correct the irradiated position according to the detected light quantity.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 1990Date of Patent: December 10, 1991Assignee: Mitsubishi Denki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Susumu Hoshinouchi, Akio Yoshida, Akinobu Kawazu, Tatsunori Hibara, Hiroaki Tobuse

Patent number: 5059146Abstract: Apparatus and a method for combining radiant energy of substantially distinct spectral bands to produce a light source having predetermined color temperature or chromaticity characteristics. The apparatus comprises a generating source that generates emissions of radiant energy from at least two spatial emission regions. Each of the spatial emission regions emits radiant energy in a substantially distinct spectral band. The apparatus further comprises an optical directing system that directs a substantial portion of the radiant energy emitted from the emission regions. The optical directing system includes a positioning region that contains a near focus and a combining region that contains a far focus.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1990Date of Patent: October 22, 1991Assignee: Welch Allyn, Inc.Inventors: Brian J. Patent number: 5059147Abstract: Process and apparatus are disclosed for use in the manufacture of a color cathode ray tube having a shadow mask with a central pattern of apertures mounted in tension on a transparent flat front panel. The mask aperture pattern is registered with a cathodoluminescent screen pattern of corresponding geometry and position on an inner surface of the panel. The shadow masks and front panels are respectively interchangeable. In a preferred arrangement, signals are developed which are indicative of the positions of a mechanically stretched mask aperture pattern and an associated front panel screen pattern relative to a reference or to each other. Responsive to such signals, there is effected a relative positioning of the mask and screen until registration between the patterns is achieved.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1990Date of Patent: October 22, 1991Assignee: Zenith Electronics CorporationInventors: Robert Adler, James R.
