Abstract: A collapsible and self-erecting polyhedron system is provided. The system includes a collapsible and self-erecting box. The box comprises cardboard and includes outer surfaces upon which images (e.g., photographic reproductions), graphics, and text are printed to provide a three-dimensional greeting card. The three-dimensional greeting card (the box) is collapsed and placed into an envelope, and upon being removed from the envelope, automatically self-erects providing a fun and exciting experience. Confetti also is included within the box that is ejected during the box self-erecting, thereby providing even more enjoyment.

Abstract: A communication system and method are provided to assist a user in conveying and/or exchanging a communication. The present communication system and method provide a low tech platform that enables a user to utilize an icon exchange communication system and method while allowing the integration of core vocabulary instructional concepts and techniques. The present communication system and method allows for seamless presentation of core vocabulary while also providing access to fringe vocabulary words.

Abstract: An interactive book assembly has first and second page portions, and a plurality of uniquely-shaped workpieces. The first page portion removably retains the workpieces in a plurality of first receiving areas. The second page portion has a plurality of second receiving areas that have unique shapes that each match a respective one of the workpieces so as to receive and retain a mating. Each second receiving area has a switch area located to correspond to the position of an indicia area of the mating workpiece when the mating workpiece is positioned in the respective second receiving area. Membrane switches are positioned adjacent to a switch area of each second receiving area to align with the indicia area of the workpiece inserted into the matching second receiving area. When a reader presses the activation indicium on the workpiece, the workpiece will press against the switch area, causing activation of the associated membrane switch and generation of a sound relating to the workpiece.

Abstract: In one aspect of the present invention, a toy arrangement involving a flickering, animated and/or luminescent toy object will be described. The toy arrangement includes a toy object having an ultraviolet sensitive layer. A light source is arranged to illuminate the ultraviolet sensitive layer with ultraviolet light. The ultraviolet sensitive layer is arranged to emit colored light in response to exposure to the ultraviolet light. In some implementations, the light source is arranged to vary the intensity of the ultraviolet light, which in turn can cause the colored light emitted from the toy object to fade, brighten and flicker. The toy arrangement may also include a speaker that emits sounds that are synchronized with changes in the colored light.

Abstract: A kit for a child's play structure includes poles removably attached to one another and arranged to form a three-dimensional box-like structure of a size to permit a child to fully enter therein. A plurality of panels are attached to the poles. The panels have graphic representations thereon corresponding to at least a portion of a story or illustration, such as depicted in an accompanying storybook. Three dimensional objects may be positionable within, or removably attached to the panels, and which correspond to objects in the storybook to enhance the play experience. Multiple structures may be placed side-by-side so that a child can move from one structure to another, and thus from one portion of the story to the next.

Abstract: A collapsible toy kitchen apparatus and method, an embodiment including a back support including a backsplash, a kitchen counter including a countertop and a range and being pivotably connected to the back support, a base pivotably connected to the back support, and two side walls that are each foldable. The pivotable connections and foldable side walls allow the toy kitchen to collapse, such as for storage.

Abstract: A flip book greeting card having an outside cover containing text and artwork and an inside panel containing a flip book. The flip book is made up of one piece of material that is folded accordion-style to create several smaller folds, each fold containing a series of still frame pictures or drawings, each successive fold containing the same picture or drawing with incremental movements. The flip book is connected to the greeting card in such away that when a user pulls the free edge of the flip book, the flip book is set in motion, creating the illusion of a picture in motion. The user may then push the free edge back to its original location, while the flip book is set in reverse motion, creating the illusion of rewinding the movement of the picture. The picture or drawing used in the flip book may be coordinated with the occasion, theme and/or décor of the greeting card.

Abstract: In one aspect of the present invention, a toy arrangement involving a flickering, animated and/or luminescent toy object will be described. The toy arrangement includes a toy object having an ultraviolet sensitive layer. A light source is arranged to illuminate the ultraviolet sensitive layer with ultraviolet light. The ultraviolet sensitive layer is arranged to emit colored light in response to exposure to the ultraviolet light. In some implementations, the light source is arranged to vary the intensity of the ultraviolet light, which in turn can cause the colored light emitted from the toy object to fade, brighten and flicker. Abstract: A creative illustration book is provided that has a story page that has pre-printed text of a written story. An illustration page is included that does not have any of the pre-printed text of the written story thereon. The illustration page is removable from the book so that the entire written story is retained in the book after removal of the illustration page. The illustration page is provided for use in having a user draw an illustration thereon.

Abstract: A reversibly bound book is provided. A first cover strip is wrapped around the first edge of a first cover board, passes over the first side of the first cover board and along the first side of the second cover board. One end of a second cover strip is wrapped around the second edge of the second cover board, strip passes along the second side of the second cover board and over the second side of the first cover board. The cover boards are only attached to each other via the cover strips and can be rotated and turned inside-out. One book can have two different appearances simply by rotating the cover boards with respect to each other. At least one floating spine is bound to one cover board, serving as a spine in one configuration and a closure in the other.

The toy includes a speech recognition unit that receives and detects certain triggering phrases as they are read aloud or played from a companion literary work. The triggering phrase read aloud from the book or played in the movie/video may have independent significance or may only have significance when combined with other phrases read aloud from the book or played in the movie/video.

Abstract: An entertainment center for children or other users with a durable backer and two sets of pages bound to the backer along opposite sides. The pages and the backer may provide erasable writing surfaces where markers, pencils, crayons or other writing utensils may be used and then erased to permit future use of the same writing or drawing surface. The sets of pages are bound to the backer along opposite sides so that an inner edges of each set is positioned adjacent each other in a closed position and a locking mechanism is provided to retain the pages in the closed position. A durable cover may be provided in each set of pages.

Abstract: A portable theater for children that has multiple features of a theater integrated together. The portable theater has a stage, refreshment stand, ticket booth and alternatively a dressing room or puppet theater. Each side of theater has one element for a total of four elements in any given theater. Abstract: A multi-panel fold-out device made from a blank includes at least first, second, and third panels which are joined together in sequence, and formed by separation lines between the first, second, and third panels. The first and second panels each have an internal panel portion including a score line adjacent to an edge of the panel. Each internal panel portion is releasably secured to its panel such that the internal panel portion can be pivoted around its score line relative to its panel. The first panel is foldable over, along the first separation line, to secure the first panel to the second panel. The first and second panels are foldable under, along the second separation line, to secure the first and second panels to the third panel. The first and second internal panel portions are of different sizes so that these panels can be folded out in sequence.

Abstract: A printed work, such as a book or a card, may include one or may pages having a first layer having an image on a surface thereof, a second layer covering at least a portion of the first layer and having a flap configured to move between a closed position, in which the image is covered by the flap, and an open position, in which the flap exposes the image, and a third layer covering the second layer and having a portion being movable relative to the second layer to expose the flap. Methods of displaying such a printed work are also disclosed.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and device for playing a game in which values of a game piece are gradually revealed. In one embodiment, a housing receives a game piece. The housing includes an opaque portion covering markings on the game piece. The opaque portion is movable for gradually revealing at least one marking on the game piece. The opaque portion can include a pair of movable doors. The doors are moved laterally toward one another to reveal markings on outer columns of the game piece. The doors are moved vertically for revealing markings on an inner column of the game piece.

Abstract: A learning toy includes a board assembly having a plurality of perforations, and at least one toy element provided with a stud member for insertion into one of the perforations so as to attach the toy element onto the board assembly. Abstract: The invention relates to an improved based structure with changeable colorful figures, wherein the based structure is printed with colorful figures. A coating layer is provided over the colorful figures to show a single color in usual time. The coating layer will become transparent after contacting water and the original colorful figures are then displayed. In use of the change, the based structure can be applied on many products being apt to water that obtains decorative effect of figures with changeable color and improves utilization.

The envelope includes a slotted panel with a slot through which the pop-up sheet member is inserted. The envelope further includes a middle panel and a cover panel that, when folded together, enclose the slotted panel, the pop-up sheet member, and the pullout tab. The envelope is open at one end and partially open at a top edge such that when the pullout tab is pulled away from the envelope, the pop-up sheet member engages an apex of the slot in the slotted panel that forces the pop-up sheet member to rotate up through the open portion at the top side of the envelope.

Abstract: Included is a flap board book having at least one page constructed of a first piece of grayback board and a second piece of grayback board wherein each piece of grayback board has a front and a back side. Each front side includes a coating adapted to accept printing. The first piece of grayback board includes a rotateably attached section positioned to allow viewing of a portion of the backside of the first piece of the grayback board and a portion of the backside of the second piece of grayback board. The portion of the backside of the first piece of the grayback board and the portion of the backside of the second piece of the grayback board includes a flashing adapted to accept printing ink. In this invention, only the portion of the back of each grayback board piece has been flashed, or treated. This treatment enables these portions, and only these portions on the flashed side of each piece, to properly accept printing ink.

Abstract: An imaging system includes a magnetically responsive display. The imaging system includes a first panel, a second panel hingedly connected to the first panel and a plurality of transplant cards that are also hingedly connected to the second panel. A magnetic drawing panel for eraseably forming a magnetic image is mounted on the first panel. A hand operated instrument comparable to a pen or pencil has a magnetic tip which the user employs much like a pen or a pencil to draw an image on the magnetic drawing panel. The instrument is removeably mounted to one of the panels or to some other part of the imaging system. Alternative embodiments of the imaging system include, for example, drawing toys, notebooks, notepads and three-ring binders having a magnetically responsive panel incorporated therein on.

The coupler (22) may be removable, such as an O-ring pressed over the antenna (28), semi-removable, as a two-part hook-and-loop fastener, or permanent. Either the coupler (22) or the bille (24) may display advertising copy (46). The coupler (22), the bille (24), and the tether (32) are fabricated of non-conducting materials to avoid interference with communicative use of the handheld radio (26).

Abstract: A concertina-bound foam-based book is presented, comprising a plurality of foam pages, each having a first edge and a second edge. The first edge is opposite the second edge on each page, and the pages are bound along their first edges and second edges in a concertina fashion with a water-resistant binding means. When fully opened, the concertina-bound foam-based book opens as a string of pages and such that when closed, the pages of the concertina-bound foam-based book form a stack of pages. A variety of specific binding means and binding materials may be used in conjunction with the present invention. A method for making the concertina-bound foam-based book of the present invention is also provided.

Abstract: A puppet system consisting of puppet, or other first body, able to fit within an opening or hole in an second object. The first object has straps that are attached on both ends to the first object. At least one end of the strap is reversibly attachable. The strap is able to fit in second openings in the second objects and then re-attached to the first object securing the first objects to the second object in a loose but secure manner. A preferred embodiment is use of a puppet as the first object and a book cover as the second object so that an operator can use one to both support the book cover and operate the puppet.

Abstract: A toy comprising in combination a story media, a puppet manipulator, and puppet figures in a stage-like box. The puppet figures may represent characters objects or scenes from the story media. The puppet manipulator device is adapted to allow a user to removably attach various puppet figures to act out a play, scene or story selected from the story media using several puppet figures at the same time.

A weight is connected to the flat member adjacent to the first end.

Abstract: A card holder is built up with flat parts that are detachably contained in a board before being used to assemble the card holder. The board may be made of a plastic material or a cardboard and is stamped with dies to provide the parts. The parts are then detached from the board to build up the card holder. The board with the parts removed therefrom is used as a base of the card holder, and two generally Y-shaped parts are vertically inserted into two slots provided on the base to serve as two supports for holding a plurality of cards in two deep openings thereon. Other parts may be assembled into decorative models for vertically inserting on the base to also act as a counterbalance to the cards held in the two supports.

The front cover has illustrations on both the convex and concave surfaces of a three-dimensionally contoured element. The rear cover has a holographic element. The wheelfold has a wheel rotatably mounted between opposite front and rear panels. Primary pictorial elements on the wheel are selectively visible through a window on the front panel. A secondary pictorial element on the front panel is juxtaposed with the window. Selected surfaces, elements, and panels have text written thereon.

Abstract: A three-dimensional interactive book includes a wheelfold sandwiched between front and rear covers. The front cover has illustrations on both the convex and concave surfaces of a three-dimensionally contoured element. The rear cover has a holographic element. The wheelfold has a wheel rotatably mounted between opposite front and rear panels. Primary pictorial elements on the wheel are selectively visible through a window on the front panel. A secondary pictorial element on the front panel is juxtaposed with the window. Selected surfaces, elements, and panels have text written thereon.
