  • Patent number: 6908359
Abstract: A water skipping toy which has the desired characteristics of a few, simple, low cost parts that are easily produced using injection molding and minimal assembly time. The preferred embodiment comprises two substantially identical convex plastic discs each having an annular flange recessed from the outer perimeter of the disc. The flange of one of the discs is taller and has a slightly larger diameter than the flange of the other disc so that the two flanges are radially juxtaposed when the two discs are joined together. The discs may be secured together by the press fit engagement of the two annular flanges or the flanges may be glued to each other by a common adhesive along contiguous radial surfaces of the flanges. The discs create an air pocket between them which makes the toy lighter and buoyant. The third component of the preferred embodiment comprises a relatively soft rubber ring which encircles the outer radial edges of the discs to provide a safety barrier.

  • Patent number: 6887119
Abstract: A flying disc has a smaller diameter and lower profile which allow it to be more easily caught by dogs, children, and other less experienced players. The disc has an increased thickness and weight at the rim enabling the disc to travel greater distances. The disc has an increased thickness along a flight plate and along a transition area which helps deter puncture and other breakage due to aggressive canine catches. The disc has gripping surfaces positioned along an upper surface and on the underside of the disc which help a person retain better control of the disc while it is being thrown or caught. The gripping surfaces are segmented, staggered, uni-directional, and present a low profile. These gripping surfaces help prevent the accumulation of foreign matter that can render it difficult to grip or catch the disc and which can harm a dog's teeth when catching the disc.

  • Publication number: 20040166764
Abstract: A flexible soft flying disc toy that is molded and having a recessed and/or raised and recessed centrally located region on the center bottom of the disc to encourage and facilitate the spinning of the disc on one's finger and give the illusion of being a professional type player in technique for amusement. The general nature of the spinning of the disc on one's finger in a flexible soft flying disc has the potential to wear into the disc material and having a raised center bottom allows for increased thickness in the disc in that area to improve firmness and durability with this function. The flexible soft flying foam material offers the users more safety features than previous relatively hard plastic flying disc type products by now allowing the molded material composite to compress when being hit by the disc or when used for catching of the disc. The compression allows the disc to conform more to the hand allowing for the disc to be caught easier and without the fear of being hurt.

Abstract: An aerodynamic flying disk, i.e. such as a FRISBEE®, comprises a circular disk body having a circumferential rim. A groove is provided in the rim. A plurality of light sticks are located in various sections of the groove. The light sticks are bent and snapped to activate a chemical light producing reaction and after such activation may be placed into the sections of the groove. Thereafter, during the time the light sticks continue to glow, the flying disk when thrown and flown through the air will have an illuminated circumferential rim, enhancing the user's enjoyment in using and/or playing with the flying disk.

Abstract: An amusement device toy in the shape of a flying saucer disk having aero-dynamically shaped whistle structures for emitting different tones when the disk is thrown into the air, mounted symmetrically on the periphery of the disk. The size of the whistle air chambers may be varied or the openings for admitting air displaced at different angles to obtain the different tones, while the aero-dynamic shape of the whistle assures laminar flow of air over the whistle entry for increased air flow.

Abstract: A throw and catch game or sport whereby a plastic disk is thrown by one player and caught by the other player wearing a glove or pad. The disk and the glove have complementary strips of VELCRO on their outer surfaces. The catcher merely touches the flying disk, allowing it to adhere to the target glove. The disk is a plastic, arc-shaped device with a foam padding or air pocket at the bottom center portion. VELCRO covers the foam padding/air pocket at the top center, and the plastic disk below the bottom center and the outer edge. The pocket may also contain a battery operated light. The pocket may also include an electronic recorder (programmed or random) and an electronic sound/music player, which may be activated by spinning the disk, as when it is thrown or activated by other means as desired.

Abstract: A flying ring having a circular inner edge and a outer periphery configured as a rounded square. The main body of the ring, outward of the inner circular edge, is transversely arced along the full annular length thereof, providing a convex upper surface and a concave lower surface with the lower surface forming a continuous recess about the body. Four equally spaced separate rounded lobes provided about the disk each include a lower surface with an arcuate elongate aerodynamic recess therein outward of and independent of the body recess providing additional lift in response to the motion of the ring when propelled.

Abstract: The invention pertains to a miniature flying disc that is launched by the fingers of one hand. The launching operation involves a snapping of one finger of the hand against the thumb of the hand to launch the miniature flying disc, in which the peripheral rim of the disc is positioned between the finger and thumb before the finger is snapped. When the finger is snapped against the thumb, the snapping action causes the miniature flying disc to be launched in an aerodynamic trajectory.

Abstract: An improvement to a flying disc that returns to the user by means of a string using rotational energy in a manner of a yo-yo. The flying disc may be used as a toy, for recreational purposes and as sporting equipment. It has a lower wing (1) generating lift, a smaller upper wing (2), an axle (3) between these, and a string (4) attached to the axle (3). A flying disc constructed according to the present invention has at least one circular airfoil (11), and there are openings inside the area bounded by its inner edge and the axle (3). Air-currents from the direction of flight that pass over and under the airfoil (11) are able to mix effectively through these openings. When slung with the string (4) the flying disc starts to rotate rapidly and flies away. It returns to the user when winding the string (4) back in the manner of a yo-yo.
