The polishing apparatus includes a first stage having a first mounting member and a first staging member supported on the first mounting member for reciprocal movement along a first path; a second stage having a second mounting member supported on the first staging member and a second staging member supported on the second mounting member for reciprocal movement along a second path in angular relation to the first path; a polishing member mounted on the second staging member; and a drive mechanism operable to simultaneously reciprocate the first and second staging members along their respective paths so that the polishing member traces a predetermined pattern.

At least one of the composition and the contour of the outer periphery is selected so as to provide a vibration to the grinding machine such that the straightness of the workpiece is thereby improved with respect to the straightness of the workpiece ground by a standard grinding wheel having a cylindrical outer periphery thereof, the contour and composition of the outer periphery of the standard grinding wheel being uniform.

Abstract: A blade sharpening apparatus having a hollow housing with an internal drive motor for inducing back and forth movement on a pair of aligned elongated abrasive stones. The abrasive stones are retained by a stone holder and possess a cross section in the form of a equilateral triangle. A slidable guide is slidably mounted on the housing above the pair of abrasive stones. The abrasive stones have a portion of two faces extend through the slidable guide. The slidable guide includes a pair of flat guide surfaces for supporting a blade to be sharpened.
Abstract: A linear pad conditioning mechanism provides a linear in situ or ex situ conditioning for a polishing pad mounted on a polishing belt of a CMP apparatus. The linear pad conditioning mechanism includes a linear oscillation mechanism for driving a conditioning pad in a direction orthogonal to the polishing belt's direction of travel. In one example, multiple conditioning assemblies are provided to each provide a trapezoidal conditioning pad, and the conditioning assemblies are positioned such that a constant-width area in the polishing belt's direction of travel is provided. In that example, a rotational mechanism is provided to position the conditioning pad between a conditioning position against the polishing pad, and a cleaning position in a bath of cleaning fluid. Further, each conditioning assembly is provided a fluid delivery system to a conditioner block, so that a conditioner fluid can be delivered at the point of use.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for processing such as deburring, polishing and washing of surfaces of slits of a workpiece, having slits with narrow width from outer surface toward inside, with high accuracy and high efficiency. Magnetic abrasive material is retained in a magnetic field formed between magnetic poles 3 and 4, and magnetic brushes 5 are formed. A workpiece 1 made of non-magnetic material and having slits 1f with narrow width is placed in said magnetic brushes 5, and by relatively vibrating said magnetic poles and said workpiece, surfaces of the slits are processed. It is more effective to tilt the slit surface with respect to the magnetic field after the slit surface is arranged in parallel to the magnetic field.

Abstract: A rotary cutter head knife jointer is disclosed, in which a rigid base is adapted for mounting in a fixed position adjacent a rotary cutter head. Abstract: An improved honing method and device connected to a source of pressurized fluid for machining a wall of a bore hole or similar interior of a workpiece. The honing device includes a tool mandrel connected in a cantilevered arrangement to a machine for rotating machining operations. A rigid honing member is secured to the tool mandrel, and configured such that the effective diameter of the substantially rigid abrasive outer surface of the honing member can be uniformly and precisely varied in a radial direction relative to the longitudinal axis of the tool in response to pressure on the interior surface of the honing member. A fluid distribution system formed in the tool mandrel in a predetermined arrangement is in fluid communication with the source of pressurized fluid, and includes a pressure chamber that is configured to apply fluid pressure to the interior surface of the honing member.

Abstract: An abrasive, sanding and/or surface finishing apparatus designed to extend the useful life of abrasive material which employs a dual-platen arrangement having a particulate removal system designed to effectively remove particulate from the working area of the machine. Specifically, the particulate removal system is designed to remove particles from the surface of the work in the area of the gap created between the twin platens, with a secondary particulate removal system designed to remove material from the work following treatment by abrasive from both platens. The inlet port of the particulate removal system interposed between the platens is designed to occupy a substantial portion of the area within the gap zone between the platens. In addition to increasing the useful life of the abrasive, the particulate removal system reduces the release or discharge of dust into the ambient.

Abstract: A grinding mechanism includes a track device horizontally arranged in a base, and a slide slidably engaged on the track device. A grinding material is secured on top of the slide and moved in concert with the slide. A gear is rotatably supported in the base and a roller is eccentrically secured to the gear for engaging with the slide. A motor is disposed in the base for rotating the gear. The slide and the grinding material are moved in a reciprocating action along the track device in order to conduct grinding operations.

Abstract: A reciprocating abrading, polisher or buffing tool is disclosed in which a counterweight for a shoe adapted for the mounting of an abrading, polishing or buffing member is driven by the shoe for oppositely directed reciprocating movement. Pairs of guides for supporting the shoe and counterweight for reciprocating movement are mounted on a shroud having halves fixed to each other and to depend from a rim of a body of the sander or polisher, so as to permit selective rotational displacements of the shoe and counterweight relative to the body. In one form of the invention employing suction to withdraw dust from adjacent the shoe, the shroud is employed to positionally locate an L-shaped connecting duct relative to a dust discharge opening in the shoe and a dust collecting duct leading to an aspirator.

Abstract: An outer surface of a cam on a camshaft extending along a camshaft axis is honed by continuously rotating the camshaft about its axis, holding a grinding stone adjacent the cam with a surface of the stone directed radially inward at the cam surface, urging the grinding stone radially of the axis against the stone and thereby pressing the cam surface radially inward against the cam surface for contact of the stone surface along a line with the cam surface, and continuously displacing the stone surface in a direction generally tangential of the camshaft axis and thereby continuously moving the contact line between the cam and stone surfaces. Thus the contact line between the stone and the cam will move continuously, so that wear will not be concentrated in one location and the stone will not wear to fit in surface contact on the cam. The cam surface includes a part-cylindrical base region coaxial with the camshaft and a lobe region projecting radially outward from and joined to the base region.
