  • Patent number: 10005169
Abstract: A modular honing guide system comprised of interchangeable parts, having a multitude of configurations for manually sharpening or honing a multitude of tool types used for, but not limited to wood carving, wood working, fine art printmaking, jewelry making and metal work. A plurality of edge tool clamps mountable to a universal honing guide base system. Tools are honed on planar abrading surface(s) in conjunction with a supporting honing guide base configuration moving across a work surface which is in parallel with an abrading surface or medium. Cancellation of thickness variation of individual abrading mediums, and elimination of variability of abrading surface height differentials relative to a work surface, for a plurality of abrading mediums, is provided. A multitude of bevel, skew and cutting edge profiles are attained. Abstract: A blade sharpener comprises a work surface consisting of a single support line. A grinding wheel defines a plane that contains the support line. The grinding wheel is swingable in the grinding wheel plane to a selected position relative to the support line. A blade is supported on the support line in a manner that produces a first cutting surface on the blade cutting edge. The single support line enables mulching blades to be sharpened without having to impart angular motions in space to them as they are fed past the grinding wheel. The grinding wheel is swingable to different positions relative to the support line, thereby enabling the grinding wheel to produce different cutting surfaces on the blades. Swinging of the grinding wheel is achieved by mounting it to a plate that pivots about an axis perpendicular to the grinding wheel plane. A mobile work table having a top plate of finite area is selectively retainable over and removable from the single line support.

Abstract: A manually-operated sharpening apparatus includes a sharpening member for sharpening a sharpened member such as a dental instrument, a guide member for guiding the sharpened member so as to be movable therealong, and a positioning-assist element for permitting an operator to dispose the sharpened member at a location at which a predetermined angle is formed between the sharpened member and the sharpening member. With use of the sharpening apparatus, the operator can easily sharpen a blade of the sharpened member at a desired blade angle.

  • Patent number: 6074293
Abstract: Apparatus is described for surface finishing complex and simple surface shapes by abrasion of select zones of the surface, leaving contiguous zones unfinished. The apparatus is simple in construction and required little in training for operation. The apparatus includes an abrasive surface, which in cross-sectioned profile is negative image of the surface zone to be abraded of finished, and a relief surface corresponding to the zone or zone to remain unfinished.

  • Patent number: 6030281
Abstract: A sharpening apparatus for sharpening blades of tools and other implements such as spatulas and grill scrapers. The sharpening apparatus includes a base member on which a sharpening stone is positioned. A slidable blade guide member is slidably connected to the base member. The slidable blade guide member includes a guide surface that is disposed at an angle relative to the upper surface of the sharpening stone, and a mounting mechanism for removably mounting a spatula against the guide surface such that the scraping edge of the spatula is in engagement with the sharpening stone. The slidable blade guide member is manually slidable back and forth to sharpen the scraping edge of the spatula. A fixed blade guide member is also attached to the base member.

  • Patent number: 5944592
Abstract: A sharpener apparatus includes a base, a linear bearing assembly mounted on the base, and a support block carried by the bearing assembly for reciprocating movement along a rectilinear path relative to the base. A planar abrasive surface underlies the support block which has one or more open channels for receiving workpieces in sliding relation with the longitudinal axes of the workpiece preferably inclined to the abrasive surface. A pusher member is supported by the support block adjacent each channel for applying a constant force longitudinally of the corresponding workpiece to urge its tip against the abrasive surface. Manual or powered reciprocating movement of the support block effects an abrasive action of the workpiece tips against the abrasive surface to form a highly accurate and repeatable tip geometry, such as a chisel point, on each workpiece.

  • Patent number: 5704829
Abstract: A compact, hand-held tool for safely deburring the edges of a skate blade. The tool utilizes a pair of resiliently biased deburring surfaces which are movable between an open position and a closed position. The deburring surfaces are resiliently biased in the open position by a biasing means such as a leaf spring. In the open position, any size or shape skate blade can be readily inserted between the deburring surfaces. A user can apply pressure between his/her thumb and fingers to engage the deburring surfaces against the skate blade edges. The width of the skate blade determines the extent of the closed position. In the closed position the tool can be manipulated back and forth along the length of the skate blade to simultaneously deburr both edges.

  • Patent number: 5582535
Abstract: An apparatus for sharpening the edge of an elongated object includes a housing having an exposed sharpening section with a sharpening element in the sharpening section. The sharpening element is formed from a single abrasive coated sharpening element having a pair of abrasive coated planar comb-like structures formed along opposing sides of the sharpening element. The sharpening element is bent into an X configuration wherein the alternating teeth and slots interdigitate to form the X-shaped configuration and form a sharpening angle between the interdigitating teeth. The sharpening angle has a bisection line with an elongated interrupted sharpening surface.

  • Patent number: 5520574
Abstract: A device for sharpening dental instruments is disclosed. The device is particularly advantageous for sharpening and shaping dental curettes and universals. The device is comprised of a generally rectangular and elongate wedge-shaped ceramic stone. The stone has a planar front surface and a planar back surface, the surfaces are obliquely positioned with respect to each other. A rounded top lip and a rounded bottom lip join the front surface and the back surface. The top surface has a groove, semicircular in cross-section, extending lengthwise. The groove is sized to receive the toe portion of dental curettes or universals for sharpening and shaping.
