Patent number: 6277424Abstract: A pepper seed polishing machine consists of a frame made from welded angle iron bars, a polishing mechanism which is a concave made from iron sieve having holes with diameter of 1.5-2 millimeters, and an agitator set. The agitator set consists of three backward curve vane blades welded onto a rotating shaft and is driven by a two-horsepower electric motor via a two V belt-pulley set. Black pepper seed is loaded into a hopper located on top of the machine. After polishing process, the polished seed is unloaded from the machine, while dust and rubbish can be collected separately. Polishing or rubbing off the outer skin of pepper seed resulted from rubbing action between seed to metal and seed to seed. The revolution of the rotor can be changed by changing pulleys' diameter. This results in changing of time required for each cycle of polishing process and polishing capacity as well. After polishing, the pepper seed has much more favorably odor than those polished by the conventional method.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2000Date of Patent: August 21, 2001Inventors: Mongkol Kwangwaropas, Anek Sukcharoen

A translating mechanism draws the discs toward one another in a sealing mode, that compresses the band to bulge outwardly to sealingly engage the inner sealing surface of the barrel open end. In a releasing mode, the discs are moved apart, allowing the band to resume it original shape, thereby unsealing the barrel to facilitate removal of the closure for access to the barrel contents. A pressure relief valve at the center of the discs may be optionally provided.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 2000Date of Patent: July 3, 2001Inventors: Domenic Mucciacciaro, Alvin S. Blum

Patent number: 6210258Abstract: A finishing assembly for vibratory finishing of workpieces in loose finishing media includes at least one generally annular finishing chamber which is driven by a drive assembly and supported by a support housing. The drive assembly consists of a crank shaft and a drive shaft which are rigidly connected to each other through a wedge-shaped gasket and oriented such that the rotary axis of the crank shaft and the rotary axis of the drive shaft intersect with one another at a predetermined angle. The crank shaft rotates within a first bearing hub which is rigidly mounted within the chamber and the drive shaft rotates within a second bearing hub which is rigidly secured to the assembly housing and which is actuated by an electric motor. The spatial vibration of the finishing assembly can be adjusted using a wedge-shaped gasket and/or by providing for horizontal displacement of the first bearing hub from the second bearing hub.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1999Date of Patent: April 3, 2001Assignee: Vibro Finish Tech Inc.Inventors: Daniel Malkin, Lev Malkin

Patent number: 6200413Abstract: A system and method for polishing spherical shaped devices is disclosed. The system includes a carrier and an enclosure. The carrier has two projections so that when a device is placed between the projections, it contacts the carrier at two contact points. The enclosure matingly engages with the carrier so that it also contacts each device at two contact points. A movement system, such as a motor, provides relative movement between the carrier and the enclosure so that the four contact points polish each device. Also, the relative movement moves each device so that the device's entire outer surface is polished by the apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1999Date of Patent: March 13, 2001Assignee: Ball Semiconductor, Inc.Inventors: Roger Privitt, Akira Ishikawa, Takashi Kanatake

Patent number: 6059639Abstract: A shot blast machine for cleaning workpieces that includes two tumbler sections and at least one blast wheel for impelling abrasive particles. Both tumbler sections have a surface with an ingress and an egress for supporting and tumbling the workpieces under the path of abrasive particles. Though horizontally adjacent, the two surfaces are vertically displaced relative to each other. The vertical displacement of the surfaces forms a step to induce an additional tumble of the workpieces as they tumble from the egress of the first tumbler section to the ingress of the second tumbler section, thereby encouraging the shot blasting of every surface on the workpieces in a timely manner. The degree of tilt of the surfaces is selectively adjustable, thereby allowing substantial control over the duration of the cleaning cycle.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1999Date of Patent: May 9, 2000Assignee: B&U CorporationInventors: Udo Kuehn, Dwight E. Patent number: 6010391Abstract: A method for polishing articles comprising soft acrylic materials is disclosed. The method includes a cryogenic polishing step and a cleaning step. In the polishing step, a receptacle is charged with polishing beads of various sizes, sodium bicarbonate, a swelling agent and the articles to be polished, for a period of time and at a rotation speed sufficient to remove surface irregularities. Following the polishing step, a receptacle is charged with (a) a cleaning slurry comprising cleaning beads of various sizes and (i) sodium hydroxide and water or (ii) alumina, a surfactant and a solvent and (b) the articles to be cleaned, for a period of time and at a rotation speed sufficient to clean the surface of the polished articles. Agitation is preferably accomplished by a tumbling machine.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1997Date of Patent: January 4, 2000Assignee: Alcon Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Kevin Lewellen, John W. Patent number: 5989109Abstract: Any part of an abrasive media in a solid particle or liquid form is prevented from entering a seal and/or the area where a rotary shaft bearing for a rotating barrel is sealed, thereby protecting the bearing and/or its seal against any possible damage that may be caused by abrasive media. A the barrel finishing operation performed by rotating a rotating barrel rotatably mounted inside a cylindrical stationary barrel on a lower portion thereof in a spaced relationship to the stationary barrel. The stationary barrel has an outer bottom plate at the bottom end thereof.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1997Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignee: Tipton CorpInventors: Hisamine Kobayashi, Katsuhiro Izuhara

Patent number: 5848929Abstract: A centrifugal finisher uses centrifugal and rotational forces for finishing at least one object. A fixed, non-rotatably outer vessel has an inner surface and a central axis. At least one inner vessel is positioned inside the outer vessel and is adapted to hold an object to be finished. The inner vessel has an outer surface. At least one intermediate roller is positioned between the inner surface of the outer vessel and the outer surface of the inner vessel and engages the surfaces of respective outer and inner vessels. A drive mechanism rotates the inner vessel around the central axis of the outer vessel, thereby causing rotation of the inner vessel by engagement of the inner vessel with the intermediate roller which moves by rotation along the inner surface of the outer vessel.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 1997Date of Patent: December 15, 1998Assignee: H TechnologyInventor: Steve E.
