Gauging Device Patents (Class 451/410)
  • Patent number: 11623322
Abstract: A grinder tool with blind mounting of a disc includes a center alignment mechanism having a first contact and a second contact and a rotational device including an axle that is movable with respect to the center alignment mechanism. A hub is mounted to the axle including a first coupling interface. The disc has a second coupling interface for mating with the first coupling interface. The center alignment mechanism is movable a mounting distance relative to the hub and contacts the disc with the first contact and the second contact to center align the first coupling interface with the second coupling interface. The rotational device is to slowly rotate the hub to angle align the first coupling interface with the second coupling interface to allow the disc to mate and attach to the hub.

  • Patent number: 11491602
Abstract: A tool sharpener has first and second guide surfaces to respectively support a cutting tool adjacent first and second abrasive surfaces. A drive assembly moves the first and second abrasive surfaces with respect to the first and second guide surfaces. A control circuit directs a user to place the cutting tool against the first abrasive surface using the first guide surface to sharpen a cutting edge of the tool during a first sharpening operation. The control circuit activates an indicator mechanism at a conclusion of the first sharpening operation to direct the user to perform a second sharpening operation in which the user presents the cutting tool against the second abrasive surface using the second guide surface to sharpen the cutting edge.

  • Patent number: 8851961
Abstract: In one aspect, the invention is directed to a sharpener for sharpening a corner edge of a snow travel member, which may be, for example, a ski or a snowboard. The corner edge is between a bottom face and a side face of the snow travel member. The sharpener includes an angle adjustment mechanism to adjust the angle between surfaces on the sharpener that support the bottom face and side face of the snow travel member, in order to accommodate different snow travel members, that may have different angles between their bottom face and their side face. For example, the angle adjustment member may be capable of adjusting the angle between a bottom face orienting surface on the sharpener and a side face orienting surface on the sharpener between a range of angles. The range of angles may be, for example, a range from 85 degrees and 90 degrees.

  • Publication number: 20130324014
Abstract: Apparatus and method for sharpening a cutting tool, such as but not limited to a kitchen knife. In accordance with some embodiments, a flexible abrasive disk is adapted for rotation about a central axis at a selected rotational velocity. Centripetal forces imparted to the disk during rotation urge the disk to a neutral position in which an outer peripheral portion of the disk is extended toward a selected plane. A housing adjacent the flexible disk has a guide slot with a guide surface at a selected bevel angle with respect to the selected plane. The guide surface is adapted to facilitate presentation of a cutting tool in contacting engagement against the disk. The cutting tool is presented at the selected bevel angle to induce curvilinear displacement of the flexible disk during sharpening of a cutting edge that extends along a side of the cutting tool.

  • Patent number: 6991519
Abstract: A computer controlled grinding machine grinds a cylindrical region and an annular shoulder of a rotatable workpiece. Relative movement is effected between the workpiece and a grinding wheel along a line of action which subtends an angle of approach of less than 90 degrees to the Z axis of rotation of the workpiece. Such an angle of approach enables the wheel to grind the annular shoulder of the workpiece simultaneously with grinding the cylindrical portion.

  • Patent number: 6848971
Abstract: An electronic hollow grinder bevel angle indicator wherein a microprocessor calculates the grinding bevel angle that will be obtained when a tool is placed flat upon a tool rest and presented to the periphery of a rotating grinding wheel. The calculated bevel angle is the acute angle of intersection between the tool rest plane and a plane tangent to the grinding wheel periphery at the line of intersection between the grinding wheel periphery and the tool rest plane. The microprocessor also calculates the air-gap between the tool rest and grinding wheel, and warns the operator when the air gap exceeds a specified safety threshold.

Abstract: The record of changes in the size of a workpiece, which is measured by a gage head during grinding, is graphed on a color LCD of a control part. It is therefore possible to know if there is an abrupt change or no change in the size of the workpiece during the grinding just by looking at the graph. Thus, the sharpness of a grinding wheel can easily be judged during the grinding.

  • Patent number: 5679053
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for grinding a workpiece, a rotating workpiece and a rotating grinding wheel are relatively moved toward and away from each other, and at least first and second grinding steps are performed at high and low infeed rates, respectively. Further, back-off grinding is performed between the first and second grinding steps. A target workpiece diameter to be obtained at the end of the back-off grinding is first provided. During the rough grinding, prediction is repeatedly performed to obtain a workpiece diameter which would be obtained at the end of the back-off grinding if the back-off grinding were started instantaneously. The workpiece diameter is predicted taking account of a delay in the movement of the grinding wheel. The back-off grinding is started when it is judged that the predicted workpiece diameter becomes equal to the target workpiece diameter.
