  • Patent number: 8209837
Abstract: A device constructed of a material strong enough to withstand the torque of a typical air wrench or cheater bar used by a lawn mower repair shop or a homeowner. One end of the device must have an opening and be of the size as to allow a lawn mower blade to be inserted inside of it. The portion containing the tip of the blade may include a leveler and/or retainer to raise the device to approximately the horizontal plane of the mower blade and the lower edge of the mower deck. The device includes a restriction leg to provide a prop against any protuberance on the side of a single-blade mower deck or on the side or within the deck on a multi-blade mower deck. To provide economics for manufacturing, one size should fit most blades and the device should require a limited quantity of materials and fabrication.

  • Patent number: 6748836
Abstract: A sheet material cutting apparatus includes a cutting head and a knife frame rotatably coupled to the cutting head. A blade defining a cutting edge is coupled for reciprocation to the knife frame, as is a primary sharpener for sharpening substantially the entire cutting edge of the blade after it becomes dull from operation. A presser foot having a secondary sharpener mounted thereon, is also coupled to the knife frame for movement between a raised non-working and a lowered working position. The secondary sharpener includes a sharpening member engageable with the cutting edge of the blade via the action of an actuator, for sharpening a portion of the blade's cutting edge between primary sharpening operations.

  • Patent number: 6360639
Abstract: A reciprocating knife cutter for performing a cutting operation on sheet material is provided wherein the knife is not limited to reciprocation along a vertical axis. The cutter includes a guide which engages the knife, whereby the knife and guide are constrained to slide relative to one another along the longitudinal axis of the knife. The knife is reciprocated by an eccentric drive mechanism in a plane perpendicular to the drive axis of the mechanism, and the guide is pivotally mounted on the cutter so that the knife and guide remain in engagement as the knife is reciprocated. A sheet material cutting apparatus including such a reciprocating cutter is also provided. The invention also provides a knife sharpener for a cutting apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6161453
Abstract: A saw chain sharpener for a chain saw and a chain saw having a sharpener in which the bottom surfaces of the cutting teeth of a conventional bottom sharpened saw chain are conveniently sharpened automatically by running the chain under power through the sharpener. The saw chain can be sharpened using the sharpener in a matter of typically twenty to thirty seconds without removing the chain from the chain bar. The sharpener is preferably adapted to be removably mounted to a bracket which is itself preferably removably disposed on the chain saw. The sharpener comprises a sharpening tooth disposed in a housing which is mounted on the chain bar. A top surface of the sharpening tooth frictionally engages bottom surfaces of the cutting teeth of the chain as the chain is run under power. A device for dispensing a sharpening compound to the sharpening tooth during sharpening may be disposed on the sharpener housing.

  • Patent number: 5797788
Abstract: A card clothing is mounted on a support and rotatable therewith about an axis. A grinding apparatus for the card clothing has an abrasive grinding element, a base juxtaposed with the card clothing, and an elastic biasing element for pressing the grinding element radially of the axis against the card clothing so that when the support and card clothing are rotating the element grinds the card clothing. The grinding element is displaceable radially outward away from the card clothing against a force of the biasing element from a grinding position engaging the card clothing to a rest position out of contact with the card clothing. The apparatus has a mechanism for withdrawing the grinding element against the force of the biasing element into the rest position and for retaining it in the rest position. An abutment is provided furthermore for defining a position of closest approach of the grinding element to the axis and hence, how much it will grind down the card clothing.
