  • Patent number: 11253968
Abstract: An adjustable sharpener including a body having two sharpening slots, a first arm with a first abrasive element connected to a second arm with a second abrasive element, and a third arm with a third abrasive element connected to a fourth arm with a fourth abrasive element. The first and second abrasive elements are positioned in the first sharpening slot, and the third and fourth abrasive elements are positioned in the second sharpening slot. The adjustable sharpener also includes an adjuster connected to the body and an adjustment assembly connected to the adjuster, the first arm and the third arm. Linear movement of the adjuster causes rotational movement of the first arm and the third arm. In this regard, the adjuster allows the user to manually increase or decrease the sharpening angle between the abrasive elements in the sharpening slots.

  • Patent number: 11192217
Abstract: Apparatus and method for sharpening a cutting tool, such as but not limited to a knife. A sharpener has a housing with a sharpener stage adapted to facilitate a sharpening operation upon the cutting tool responsive to retraction, by a user, of the cutting tool along a longitudinal drawing axis. A tiltable sharpening mechanism is disposed within the housing adjacent the sharpening stage. The tiltable sharpening mechanism has a central body that is rotatable about a transverse rotational axis nominally orthogonal to the longitudinal drawing axis. The rotatable central body supports at least a first sharpening element. In some cases, the central body supports a pair of intersecting sharpening elements. A biasing member exerts a biasing force to urge the central body of the tiltable sharpening mechanism to a neutral position within the housing. The central body can be locked in neutral, positive rake and negative rake positions.

Sharpening members are connected to the biasing members and are rotatable about a central axis of each respective aperture between a first and second position, which rotation is limited by a stop member as the blade passes from one end of the slot toward the other.

  • Patent number: 5440953
Abstract: A knife sharpening device includes a vertically-oriented base having a vertically-oriented slot. Mounted on the base, on one side of the slot are two crossed sharpening members of a rod-like configuration. A lower end of each of the crossed sharpening members is anchored in a horizontally-extending pivot pin with a terminal end of each of the sharpening members extending beyond the pivot pins and engaging a horizontally-extending stop pin. The pivot pins are rotatably mounted in the base and extend through the base. A pivot wheel is mounted concentrically on a free end of the pivot pins on an opposite side of the base from the sharpening members. Two radially-extending set screws extend through the pivot wheels and engage a flat surface of the pivot pin to hold the pivot wheels on the pivot pins. Extending between the two set screws, threadingly mounted in the two pivot wheels, is a tensioning spring.

  • Patent number: 5389032
Abstract: The present invention relates to an abrasive article for abrading material from a workpiece. In one embodiment, the abrasive article includes a back-up pad having first and second major surfaces. The first major surface includes a shaft adapted to connect the abrasive article to an abrading apparatus for movement relative thereto. Adjoining the second major surface are first and second resilient support portions, to which are attached first and second abrading members, respectively. When an operator applies a first force to the abrading apparatus, the first abrasive surface contacts and abrades the workpiece. When the operator applies a second force that is greater than the first force, both the first and the second abrasive surfaces contact and abrade the workpiece.
