Including Duct Extending Along Roof Patents (Class 454/137)
  • Patent number: 6279978
Abstract: The operator's cab of a work vehicle is provided with a ROPS on which is mounted a roof structure. The roof structure is provided with a roof having a top surface exposed to the outside and a bottom surface facing the interior of the operator's compartment. A sound insulating foam liner having a top surface and a bottom surface is located under the roof. The top surface of the foam liner is secured to the bottom surface of the roof by adhesives. The bottom surface of the foam liner is provided with ventilating channels. The ventilating channels have two sidewalls and a top wall extending between the sidewalls. A headliner is located below the foam liner. The headliner has a top surface facing the bottom surface of the foam liner and a bottom surface facing the interior of the operator's compartment. The top surface of the headliner encloses the ventilating channels formed in the foam liner thereby forming ventilating ducts.

  • Patent number: 6142865
Abstract: A ventilation system for a long life vehicle (LLV). A rear vent currently existing on most LLV's is secured by an adapter to provide air to a squirrel cage fan or other air pump. The cooler air is ducted to the forward passenger compartment where its glass enclosure serves to heat the confines to high temperatures during sunny days. A resistor in the ductwork serves as a generally electrically-identical configuration to an auxiliary fan currently present in most LLV's. The ductwork transmits the air pumped from the rear vent to a vent assembly having a plenum and louvers with grills. The plenum provides a small and temporary reservoir for the air flow so that it may be redirected sideways to the louvers. The louvers provide course adjustment for the airflow with finer adjustment achieved through the grills. Overall advantages include greater driver and passenger well being leading to safer operation of the vehicle as well as less thermal stress for the instruments and operating controls.

  • Patent number: 6131652
Abstract: An air conditioning apparatus for a vehicle includes a front air-conditioning unit for adjusting a temperature of air blown toward a front seat side in a passenger compartment, and a rear air-conditioning unit for adjusting a temperature of air blown toward a rear seat side in the passenger compartment. In the front air-conditioning unit, a ratio between an amount of air passing through a front heater core and an amount of air bypassing the front heater core is adjusted by an air mixing door, and the temperature of air blown toward the front seat side in the passenger compartment is adjusted by the rotation of the air mixing door. On the other hand, in the rear air-conditioning unit, a flow control valve for controlling a flow rate of hot water flowing into a rear heater core is provided, and the temperature of air blown toward the rear seat side in the passenger compartment is adjusted by the flow control valve.

Abstract: Pipe-like air duct is formed of hard aluminum foil. Concaves and convexes give flexibility to the air duct. For the air duct, kraft paper is wound on both surfaces of the aluminum foil. This air duct is disposed between an outer panel and an inner panel of vehicle body along the panels, laid to the rear seat of the vehicle, and connected to a blow-off port for the rear seat. In a collision of the vehicle, the air duct is subjected to plastic deformation, by which the shock energy caused by an external force is absorbed.

  • Patent number: 6120090
Abstract: A headliner for motor vehicles includes first and second sheets of material in juxtaposition to each other and adapted for positioning in a mold having two mold portions. The material of at least one of the sheets is fluid deformable with respect to another of the sheets, and is attachable to the material of the other of the sheets by the mold portions at sufficient locations to outline a potential duct between the sheets. The potential duct is adapted to receive fluid between the sheets for forming an actual duct. When fluid is received between the sheets, the material of the at least one sheet is deformed with respect to the material of the other of the sheets to define the actual duct. In one embodiment of the headliner, at least one head impact block is disposed in the duct. The headliner may also include at least one substantially air-impermeable layer disposed within the duct and attached to at least one of the the first and second sheets. Furthermore, the layer preferably includes a polymer powder.

  • Patent number: 5399121
Abstract: A vehicle heating and cooling system has an air duct arrangement that makes efficient use of the available duct space. The initial duct in the system is forced to run through a body area of limited size, and so has a limited cross sectional area and consequently limited air handling capacity. It also contains side window defroster vents that should not be allowed to vent cold air. Therefore, it would be normally not be considered possible to run both hot and cold air through the duct. The arrangement provides a sealed, expansible and collapsible sleeve running through the rigid duct, which expands full size when cold air is fed into it, and which collapses almost completely when hot air is forced past it and through the rigid duct only. Therefore, both hot and cold air can be run through the same volume, and cold air is kept away from the defroster vents.
