Patent number: 6478670Abstract: A two-way hingeless ventilator for ventilating an enclosure through a wall thereof has a frame defining an opening therethrough. A closure member is disposed against an outer side of the frame and is alternately swingable relative to the frame between open and closed positions at opposite sides of the opening. A tensioning rod is fixed on the frame and extends between opposite sides of the opening. An actuating member extends from an inner side of the closure member through the opening and intermediate ends of the tensioning rod. A positioning slot is defined in the actuating member through which the tensioning rod passes in a tensioned condition to apply a closing force to the closure member. The positioning slot has a central position defining a closed position of the cover member and at least one opposite side slot extending away from the central position.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 2001Date of Patent: November 12, 2002Inventor: Timothy A. Patent number: 6322439Abstract: A hatch for venting enclosed spaces has at least one carriage slideably mounted on a circular track so that the hatch may be opened in any direction to provide maximal ventilation. The circular track has a “T”-shaped cross-section that is slideably engaged by the carriage. The carriage carries a lockable hinge that interconnects the carriage and a hatch door. In operation, the carriage is moved around the track until the hatch door is oriented with respect to wind so that an optimal amount of air is directed by the hatch door into the enclosed space to be ventilated. The carriage can be locked into position at any preselected point on the track. The lock is spring-loaded and it is therefore easy to unlock the carriage and re-position it when the wind changes directions.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2000Date of Patent: November 27, 2001Inventor: Robert C. Patent number: 6253841Abstract: A vehicle air conditioner has a blower unit having first and second inside/outside air switching doors, and an air conditioning unit having defroster and foot openings. The first inside/outside air switching door is operated to correspond to a set position of an inside/outside air switching lever. The second inside/outside air switching door is operated with an operation of an air outlet mode switching lever. When an air outlet mode in which air is blown from both the foot and defroster openings is set, the second inside/outside air switching door is set to an inside air mode position. Therefore, when the first inside/outside air switching door is set to an outside air mode position in this air outlet mode, only an inside/outside air double flow mode is set. As a result, a gap between a temperature of air blown from the defroster opening and a temperature of air blown from the foot opening is prevented from abruptly changing.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1999Date of Patent: July 3, 2001Assignee: Denso CorporationInventors: So Obara, Koichi Ito

Patent number: 6244952Abstract: A ventilation assembly for installing in the dashboard of a motor vehicle has having a housing which has an air-inlet opening for fitting on an air-feed duct and also two air-outlet openings which are arranged one above the other in the installation position and lie in two planes at an angle to each other. Two air ducts are formed in the housing, each connecting one of the two air-outlet openings to the air-inlet opening. The quantities of air flowing into the two air ducts is metered. The end side of the lower air duct which leads to the lower air-outlet opening encloses the air-inlet opening, and the upper air duct, which leads to the upper air-outlet opening, encloses a wall opening in the lower air duct. The air-quantity is metered by a pivotable air-discharge flap which is assigned to the wall opening and is arranged in the lower duct in such a manner that its pivot axis lies on that side of the wall opening which is remote from the air-inlet opening.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1999Date of Patent: June 12, 2001Assignee: DaimlerChrysler AGInventors: Klaus Arold, Dieter Heinle, Erich Kubsch

Patent number: 5797791Abstract: A vented window assembly is provided for any manner of vehicle or vessel. The window assembly has a unitary piece of glass with an opening defined therein. A vent assembly is mounted in the opening and is sealingly engaged with the glass. The vent assembly includes an operable vent which is selectively positioned between an opened position and a closed position. The vent is rotatable relative to the glass so that the vent can act as a forced air or exhaust vent.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 1996Date of Patent: August 25, 1998Assignee: Mountain Car CompanyInventors: James T. Patent number: 5766068Abstract: A hingeless ventilator is provided for ventilating a compartment and includes a frame for attaching about an opening in the wall of the compartment. A closure member is swingable against an outer side of the frame for opening and closing the opening. Guide members extend from the frame into the compartment and arm members extend from the closure member through the opening. A holding mechanism is configured with the arm members and guide members to supply a closing tensile force to the closure member. The closure member and the arm members are formed from a unitary plate with the arm members bent at essentially right angles to a base portion of the plate. The closure member includes a cover member, preferably formed of a plastic material, attached to the outer surface of the base portion.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1997Date of Patent: June 16, 1998Inventor: Timothy A. Patent number: 5086830Abstract: An air-conditioning system for motor vehicles having an evaporator and a heat exchanger arranged successively in the air flow. A separate air duct having an air outlet opening for the central jet, is connected on the one hand via a cold-air opening to an air-chamber upstream of the heat exchanger and, on the other hand, via a hot-air opening to an air chamber downstream of the heat exchanger. The cross-section of the bypass openings can be controlled by bypass flaps which are coupled with actuators. A control unit with stored characteristics is provided which indicate the correlation between the air quantity and air temperature of the air issuing at the central jet and the position of the bypass flaps. The control unit applies actuation values to the actuators, which actuation values effect a setting of the bypass flaps redetermined by characteristics for a preselected air quantity and air temperature.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1990Date of Patent: February 11, 1992Assignee: Mercedes-Benz AGInventors: Dieter Heinle, Wolfgang Volz

Patent number: 5070770Abstract: In an automotive heater or air conditioner system the temperature control and the mode control for directing air flow to the desired outlet is controlled by a single actuator. A mixing chamber has inlet and outlet end walls for temperature control and mode control, respectively. Each wall has openings for air flow and has an associated rotary door for controlling air flow through the openings. The rotary doors are mounted on a common shaft for simultaneous rotation and the shaft is driven by a single actuator. A heater core is mounted in the chamber adjacent an opening in the inlet end wall. A mixer device blends hot and cold air in the chamber.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1991Date of Patent: December 10, 1991Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventor: Donald C. Cassidy
