  • Patent number: 9334685
Abstract: A method of preventing liquid from entering a partially opened window or door (e.g., during a rain storm) comprises redirecting an airflow containing a liquid, through a window or door screen, using a water impermeable barrier to allow the passage of fresh air. A portion of the liquid is deflected by the barrier. The method also comprises receiving, via an upper passageway defined between the barrier and the window, the airflow, directing the airflow from the passageway to the opening, reducing an additional portion of the liquid in the airflow in response to the directing of the airflow to the opening. The barrier can be coupled to or integrated into the screen material, and the screen can have stripes or other visual indicators as a safety factor to indicate the presence of the screen.

  • Patent number: 8936660
Abstract: A wall ventilation screen to be used in exterior walls of buildings or vehicles for protecting against rain water and other elements while simultaneously enabling air flow. The screen includes a plurality of air passages that enable air flow from one side of the screen to the other but preferably without linear communication between both sides through the air passages. The air passages present an upwardly traveling trajectory from an exterior or exposed space to a protected space, preferably with lateral changes of direction as well. Therefore rain water that comes directly from precipitation or splashing from an adjacent surface cannot reach a protected space. The geometry of the air passages provides protection against other environmental or man made elements.

  • Patent number: 7802443
Abstract: A self-contained air conditioner unit incorporates an energy recovery ventilator portion that brings about several changes of room air per hour with outdoor fresh air. There is an outdoor air intake plenum which furnishes the fresh air and the condenser air for the condenser coil, and a return air plenum. Air from the room return air plenum is HEPA filtered and conducted to the evaporator coil and evaporator fan, and is supplied back into the conditioned space. The energy recovery ventilator has a counterflow heat exchanger core situated between the return air plenum and the fresh air intake plenum, as well as two ventilation fans, one (or both) of which may be of variable or multiple speed. By controlling the fan speeds, it is possible to produce a neutral pressure, a positive or overpressure, or a negative or underpressure in the conditioned space. The unit can be wheeled into place and installed easily by personnel without special training.

  • Patent number: 7094142
Abstract: A portable device that is placed between the ambient air outside an existing enclosed space and the existing enclosed space that pulls the ambient air through an interchangeable array of air cleaning modules and delivers the cleaned air from the air cleaning modules into the existing enclosed space. The air cleaning modules are disposed outside the existing enclosed space so that only cleaned air is drawn into the existing enclosed space. The air cleaning modules can also be capped for easy and safe disposal after use. The air cleaning modules are in fluid communication with an electric fan that is disposed inside the existing enclosed space through an air flow inlet that is part of an expandable window insert. Accordingly, the cleaned air delivered to the existing enclosed space provides its inhabitants with clean breathable air and increases the air pressure in the existing enclosed space which prevents contaminated air from the external environment from entering the existing enclose space.
