  • Patent number: 5607354
Abstract: An air distribution unit for mounting in the wall or floor of a room having a plenum space behind the wall or floor, comprises a housing having an air inlet for communication with the plenum space and an air outlet; a blower between the air inlet and air outlet for drawing air from the plenum space and exhausting it through the air outlet into the room; and a grill assembly mounted over the air outlet. The grill assembly has aerodynamically profiled air distribution channels which may be circumferentially disposed, extending between the upper and lower surfaces thereof. The air distribution channels open out onto the upper surface of the grill assembly at a shallow angle in a radially outward direction so that air flowing out of said channels is directed outwardly at an angle of between about 15.degree. and 45.degree. to the plane of the grill assembly.

  • Patent number: 5588911
Abstract: A mechanical control device for the air flowing through air conditioning outlets. A control assembly with a lever that can be adjusted in two or more predetermined positions for different settings of air flow direction and volume. The lever lodges in two or more respective bays in a plate that locks the lever firmly in one of the preselected positions. The control assembly is mounted typically at a readily accessible position on a wall. A shielded cable assembly is controlled by the control assembly at one end and the other end is connected to the adjustable fins found in conventional air conditioning outlets. The shielded cable is hidden and routed from the wall mounted control assembly to the outlet protruding from the ceiling. The fins are commonly connected and spring biased to a preset position.

  • Patent number: 5551915
Abstract: A floor well air distribution outlet for forming a trumpet shaped air stream includes a cylindrical casing the open upper end of which is covered by a distribution disk having radially extending slots. A plate spaced below and parallel to said disk includes an inflow opening concentric with the disk. The radial outermost extremities of the slots are defined by soffits sloping downwardly toward the axis of the disk. A first series of soffits is inclined at a steeper angle than the soffits of a second series intervening between the first series. A cover plate includes radially extending tongues partially overlying the slots, the radial extent of the tongues being such as to overlie the innermost radial extremity of the slots of the second series only. A valve is vertically shiftable between two positions respectively unblocking or blocking the inflow opening.

  • Patent number: 5344364
Abstract: A circulation air distributing system for supplying fresh conditioned, hot or cold air through the use of cells metal cellular flooring. Distribution box inserts are uniformly distributed along the cellular flooring units prior to concrete placement. Selected distribution box inserts are activated to provide individual control means including diffuser means, for supplying individual workstations with fresh air at the volume, the temperature, and in the direction desired by the occupant. Air movement is from the floor surface upwardly toward the ceiling and into a return plenum space provided above the ceiling structure. In the event of a fire, selected diffuser means may be replaced by mask assembly which provide fresh, breathable air to an individual. Signal means activated on connection of the mask assembly to the control means, alerts the fireman as to the location where rescue is required.

  • Patent number: 5338254
Abstract: A free jet of air is disturbed at a frequency that substantially matches natural turbulences in the free jet to increase the entrainment, mixing, and spreading of air by the free jet, for example in a room or other enclosure. The disturbances are created by pulsing the flow of air that creates the free jet at the desired frequency. Such pulsing of the flow of air can be accomplished by sequentially occluding and opening a duct that confines and directs the flow of air, such as by rotating a disk on an axis transverse to the flow of air in the duct.
