    Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the data rate of a reverse link communication of an access terminal includes receiving a reverse activity bit (RAB) from an access point in the communication system, and passing the RAB to a digital filter to produce a filtered RAB. In one embodiment, the reverse link data rate is determined based on the filtered value of the RAB. Furthermore, a processor in the access terminal may determine whether the access terminal is in an idle mode, and passing a non-busy state value of the RAB to the digital filter when the access terminal is in the idle mode. The filtered RAB may be compared to a threshold to determine a mode of reverse link data rate determination. The mode defines a set of criteria for an aggressiveness level of increasing or decreasing the reverse link communication data rate. The processor, therefore, determines the data rate based on the filtered reverse activity bit in accordance with the determined mode.

    Abstract: An advanced cure paint spray booth in which a high volume flow of air is directed over the surfaces of a freshly painted workpiece such as an automobile to accelerate drying. A squirrel cage blower or other high volume blower directs a flow of spray booth air through a plurality of nozzles to flow over the surfaces of the workpiece. The nozzles are individually aimed at surface areas on the workpiece by placing a handle of a directional light source in a nozzle air passage and manipulating the handle to simultaneously direct the light beam and the nozzle at the surface area to be dried. A plurality of nozzles, an air handling manifold and a blower may be formed into a module which is easily retrofitted to existing paint spray booths. When a plurality of modules are mounted in a spray booth, the modules may be independently controlled for increasing air flow only on a a painted area of a workpiece.

Additionally, the apparatus and method when used in a powder paint booth with powder filters, includes progressive pulsing means which pulse the powder filters in a manner such that the interval between pulses may be automatically and progressively changed to keep the powder filters operating at or near peak efficiency from the time they are installed until the time they can no longer be kept functioning efficiently by pulsing, but must be replaced.

    Abstract: A paint spray booth utilizes longitudinal air flow along paths parallel to a path of travel through a tunnel in the booth of objects to be painted, the air flow directed inwardly from both entrance and exit ends of the tunnel. An exhaust duct for the inwardly directed, longitudinally flowing air is positioned between the entrance and exit ends and includes an exhaust slot which surrounds at least a portion of a paint spray application area within the tunnel for drawing out overspray-laden exhaust air. Maintaining flow of exhaust air along the path of travel of the painted objects increases paint transfer efficiency and minimizes contamination of paint recovered from the exhaust air. The invention finds particular advantage in powder spray booth applications and is adapted to modularization thereby enabling retrofitting of existing spray booths with apparatus arranged in accordance with the principles of the invention.

The heat exchanging system also includes reclamation coils for heat transfer from the circulating air to water in the coils and which is piped to a storage tank for storage of heat over a prolonged period. The storage tank supplies the water through pipes to space heating units in the building in which the paint booth is located. Water is returned from the space heating units to the paint booth heat exchanging system.
