  • Patent number: 8893709
Abstract: The present invention provides a kitchen ventilation hood for ventilating the area above a cooking area and for exhausting air containing cooking by-products from a cooking station to an external environment through an exhaust duct while using a reduced airflow. The kitchen ventilation hood of the present invention is designed to minimize the required airflow through the hood in order to thoroughly evacuate the cooking by-products. The kitchen ventilation hood of the current invention has a structure incorporating an arched interior hood surface that directs the air to be ventilated through the air intake gap and the grease filter. The more efficient airflow resulting from the arched interior hood surface allows for removal of cooking by-products with a lower airflow than that required by currently available ventilation hoods. • Publication number: 20130122795
Abstract: A fume extraction hood is designed to be positioned above a welding, cutting, or other metal-working location and to remove hot gases, smoke and fumes produced during these processes. The hood forms a box-like structure with an extractor rail structure disposed in an internal volume of the hood. The extractor rail structure comprises panels that force sharp turns in the gases, causing particulate matter to drop out of the gases both outside and inside the extractor rail. A primary path for gases accelerates and re-directs the gases entering into the extractor rail, and within the rail. The rail may form a dropout tray that can be removed for cleanout of collected particulate. The side and end rails of the hood may create a secondary path for gas not directly intaken into the extractor rail. This secondary path is re-directed towards the extractor rail, where gas is collected and particulate is forced to drop out as it joins the primary path.

Abstract: A ventilator assembly for removing contaminants in cooking exhaust includes a hood portion having a hood plenum and an exhaust portion downstream of and in fluid communication with the hood plenum. An electro-static precipitator is disposed in the hood plenum or the exhaust portion, and at least one ultra-violet lamp is disposed upstream of the electro-static precipitator for cleaning the electro-static precipitator. The ultra-violet radiation reacts with the cooking exhaust and removes collected contaminants from an electro-static cell of the electro-static precipitator.

Abstract: In an exemplary embodiment, this system is found within a kitchen hood, such as those found in restaurants, used to remove excess cooking heat and grease. Building fire safety and sanitation codes mandate routine hood maintenance to maintain fire safety, operator comfort and workplace sanitation. Conventional maintenance can be very messy, time consuming and quite expensive. In an exemplary embodiment, the hood is fabricated to incorporate an integral heat exchanger which further creates a trough housing a grease extraction device. The exchanger and trough are located in such a manner that collected heat and/or grease may be removed from the exhaust air stream and further fabricated to permit automatic and/or semi automatic cleaning of both devices and trough. This invention improves fire safety and sanitation, saves time and reduces maintenance costs. Cleaning is achieved using less energy and keeps the heat exchanger at peak efficiency to further enhance energy savings.

  • Patent number: 7442119
Abstract: Disclosed is an exhaust hood (10) comprising a drive unit (20) for generating an air flow, a control device or control circuit for controlling the drive unit (20), and a measurement section comprising a transmitter device (22) and a receiver device (24). The control device or control circuit is configured so as to control the drive unit (20) in accordance with a signal generated by the receiver device (24). The transmitter device (22) is provided with a laser module that is aimed directly at the receiver device (24). Said laser module generates a laser beam (25) which is deflected in accordance with the presence of cooking vapors such as steam. The respective deflection influences the signal generated by the receiver device (24) such that the signal allows the control device or control circuit to draw conclusions about the presence of cooking vapors such as steam or movements of air and thus automatically control the drive unit (20) as needed.
