Black Out Means Patents (Class 454/905)
  • Patent number: 7674304
Abstract: A drift eliminator is formed from alternating curved spacers and corrugated spacer members to define tube-like passageways for the flow of air through an evaporative cooling apparatus. The formation of the corrugated blade member with beveled side walls places the back walls of the channels in a different plane than the front walls, with the lower edge of the front walls of the channels being positioned in a common plane along with the lower edge of the blade members. The angled side walls impede the formation of a film of water across the inlet opening into the channel, which requires an increase in horsepower for the fan to push air through the drift eliminator. Mechanical fastening devices molded into the respective members connects the corrugated spacer members and the blade members. A method of forming the corrugated spacer members to provide the angled side walls is also provided.

  • Patent number: 6814659
Abstract: A welding apparatus having specially designed louvers that are used to cover vent openings in the enclosure and contain the components of the welding apparatus. The louvers have a common side profile and have a configuration with a rear portion that is preferably horizontal and a front portion that angles downwardly, forming a front edge. An intermediate edge is formed by the front portion and the rear portion meeting at an angle. The intermediate edge is displaced away from a straight line drawn between the front edge and the rear edge. The configuration and spacing between adjacent louvers is designed such that a standard test probe cannot be inserted through the space between any two adjacent louvers.

  • Patent number: 6508704
Abstract: An air vent apparatus for blocking light is provided for devices requiring a light source for generating light, such as a presentation projector, an arc lamp, a laser device and the like. The improved air vent apparatus employs a stacked chevron design to minimize the restriction of the flow of air through the air vent while blocking the escape of direct light. In one embodiment of the present invention, the stacked chevron is symmetrically disposed in the air vent housing of the device. In another embodiment of the present invention, the stacked chevron is asymmetrically disposed in the air vent housing so that a vane of the chevron extending towards the interior of the air vent is substantially perpendicular to the air vent housing and substantially parallel to the source of the flow of air.

  • Patent number: 6475079
Abstract: A method and apparatus for an air vent assembly is provided in which individual louvers and spacers are connected together to form chevron shaped channels that allow increased air flow while blocking the escape of direct light. The louvers are formed into a chevron shape that extends lengthwise from one end of the louver to another end of the louver. The spacers are chevron shaped and interlock or are bonded together with one another to secure the louvers and to provide a support structure such that additional spacers and louvers may be stacked together as needed to form an air vent for use in a given device.

  • Patent number: 5601485
Abstract: A light eliminator or blackout panel for use with air circulating fans and the like includes a series of plates each having a plurality of spaced fins protruding from one face thereof to form a plurality of channels opposite ends of which face the lateral side edges of the associated plate. The plates are mounted in spaced, confronting relation with each other to form a blackout panel in which the open sides of the channels of one plate are closed by the next adjacent plate in the series.

  • Patent number: 5238451
Abstract: A light eliminator which permits passage of ventilating air but totally eliminates entry of light into the poultry house which includes a plurality of laterally spaced vertical fins or panels each of which is of a unique configuration which breaks the light four times in order to totally block the entry of light into a poultry house while maintaining a minimum air flow resistance with the fins being spaced apart by standoffs that are uniquely positioned with the fins generally being of W-shaped configuration whereby negative pressure within the poultry house provided by air circulating fans will not cause vibration or waffling of the fins when subjected to air velocities induced by high CFM capacity poultry house fans. The light eliminator is constructed of noncorrosive plastic material and can be assembled easily in a short period of time and is extremely durable resulting in low cost operation.

  • Patent number: 5133692
Abstract: A light restricting housing for a ventilating system including a flow-through frame member having a plurality of spaced parallel blade members disposed there, the blade members being contoured to obscure direct passage of light therethrough and including displacement means on the planar surfaces thereof to hold the blade members in spaced relation to each other.
