Abstract: An approach for allocating information technology (IT) resources in a networked computing environment (e.g., a cloud computing environment) based on physical location mapping is provided. Specifically, an IT allocation system assigns resources to a specific cloud pool based on the physical location of the resources. By mapping a given physical location (e.g., a defined region of a grid defining a datacenter) to a specific pool, and by enabling the tracking of a resource to a location within the datacenter, the approach can automatically assign a resource to a cloud pool based upon its physical location. Thus, the IT allocation system provides additional pool elasticity while easing the management burden.

  • Patent number: 8655361
Abstract: A femto cell service framework is employed for registration, activation, and provisioning of femtocell service. An account management service enables femtocell account creation, and registration thereof. Registration includes validation of wireless coverage for a location of operation of a femto AP, and validation of availability enhanced 911 (E911) service. As part of registration provisioning, record(s) are updated to indicate registration status. Connection of femto AP to a network interface triggers activation process; the femto AP delivers an activation request. A femto network validates registration of the connected femto AP and conducts a location tolerance check of a received actual location of the femto AP and a registered location. Upon tolerance validation, a cell identifier and radio frequency channel(s) are assigned to femto AP. When femto AP radiates wireless signal, network activation status indicators are provisioned. Handling of errors that arise during registration or activation is provided.

Abstract: An apparatus and method is disclosed, to control NFC tag power dissipation. A first NFC device antenna harvests power for operation from a signal from another NFC device as a result of ambient magnetic fields present in the environment. The NFC device is configured with a regulator system in order to control the level of harvested power to prevent damage to the NFC device circuitry. The harvested power levels can exceed the ability of the regulator device to dissipate the additional power resulting in regulator damage or a reduction in the regulator lifetime. The power dissipation of the regulator can be monitored thermally, and the power dissipation controlled by reducing the regulation voltage accordingly. Various systems are presented to establish a cutoff threshold to the regulator power dissipation using thermal regulator feedback and/or antenna current monitoring.
