Abstract: Methods and devices are provided for recording radio broadcasts received in an analog format at a mobile communication device. The mobile communication device receives analog radio broadcast signals and analog radio data system information signals corresponding to the analog radio broadcast signals. A radio application extracts radio data system information in response to users selecting a record operation, creates a file name from the extracted radio data system information, and stores radio content corresponding to the extracted radio data system information in response to the user selecting the record operation. The radio application further monitors the radio data system information for pre-defined criteria and sends alerts to the user upon detecting the pre-defined criteria. In response to selecting the record operation, the radio application further enables users to rewind the stored radio content by a pre-determined amount and append buffered radio content to a beginning of the stored radio content.

  • Patent number: 8515665
Abstract: Signal data stored in an information storage unit of an on-board vehicle navigation device includes signal numbers, position information for each signal, signal indication information for determining the indication, and information for a relationship between the indications and times for each signal. Based on a determination that the target signal has been set by selecting a signal intersection on a map screen (S10), a route from a current position to the target signal is searched (S31). Signals on the set route are read from map data (S60). Travel time between the current position and the closest signal on the route and the travel times required between adjacent signals on the route are calculated (S70). The indication information for each signal is predicted from the travel times required and the signal indication information in the signal data (S80). And then, the indication of the target signal at the time of arrival is determined and announced (S90).

  • Patent number: 8437800
Abstract: When a user gets interested in some music he/she listens to somewhere, for example, in a coffee shop, the user records that music in a memory provided in a portable terminal. A processor reads the information recorded in the memory and performs a predetermined process on it. The resultant information is stored on a storage device. The information stored on the storage device is then transferred to a remote server via a communication device. The remote server searches the database for the title of the music corresponding to the received information and the singer's name, and returns the results to the terminal. Thus, the user can easily get information about the title of the music and the singer's name.

  • Patent number: 8244202
Abstract: A multiband receiver is disclosed for receiving a multiband RF signal having first and second RF bands. The first RF band contains a first service RF range, and the second RF band contains a second service RF range. The receiver includes a mixer for converting the RF signal into an IF signal, using a single local oscillator frequency “f,” and an IF bandpass filter for canceling out some of frequencies of the IF signal outside of a predetermined passband. The local oscillator frequency “f” is determined to allow the first and second service IF ranges to lie outside of the predetermined passband, and to allow a frequency portion of the first IF band exclusive of the first service IF range and a frequency portion of the second IF band exclusive of the second service IF range to lie within the predetermined passband.

  • Patent number: 8238893
Abstract: Techniques for facilitating interoperation between a portable media device having an RF tuner and an accessory device. In certain embodiments, the portable media device and the accessory can exchange various commands pertaining to the capabilities, state, and/or operation of the tuner. For example, in one set of embodiments the accessory can send one or more commands requesting information about the capabilities of the tuner, and the portable media device can provide the requested capability information. In another set of embodiments, the accessory can send one or more commands requesting execution of a particular action with respect to the tuner, and the portable media device can perform the requested action. In this manner, certain embodiments of the present invention enable a user to control the tuner functionality of the portable media device via the accessory, rather than, e.g., via an input interface located directly on the portable media device.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for determining an available FM frequency channel for interfacing with FM modulated output signals from a wireless device are described herein. A SPS receiver, such as a GPS receiver, can determine its position based on conventional techniques. The SPS receiver can determine one or more available FM channels over which audio output may be transmitted. The SPS receiver can use the determined position to access a local data base of available channels. Alternatively, the SPS receiver can use the determined position to access a local database of allocated channels in order to determine one or more available channels. The SPS receiver may display a prompt or message that indicates an FM channel over which output audio is modulated.

  • Patent number: 8190202
Abstract: When a user gets interested in some music he/she listens to somewhere, for example, in a coffee shop, the user records that music in a memory provided in a portable terminal. A processor reads the information stored in the memory and performs a predetermined process on it. The resultant information is stored on a storage device. The information stored on the storage device is then transferred to a server via a communication device. The server searches the database for the title of the music corresponding to the received information, and returns the result to the terminal. Thus, the user can easily get information about the title of the music.
