  • Patent number: 6853841
Abstract: The present invention addresses the difficulties of controlling new devices which have been added to a network. A network protocol, the NetCTL protocol, enables a remote control device to dynamically learn the command codes of a newly network attached device if the new device is executing the protocol. The intervention of a system administrator is not necessary since the dynamic teaming process happens automatically when the new device is attached to the network. Because the protocol allows the remote control device to learn the codes dynamically, there is no need to consult previously written tables of commands which can omit the codes for newly invented devices. A user of the remote control device which has “learned” the codes (i.e. acquired the codes) for a network attached device is able to control that device, regardless of the device's physical location, by selecting and sending the network attached device a command code to perform an operation.

  • Patent number: 6823191
Abstract: Latency in receiving and detecting paging messages at a wireless terminal is reduced by employing a unique “super” paging time slot format. A paging super time slot includes a plurality of prescribed time slots. Each wireless terminal is associated with cyclically recurring super time slots. A super slot is associated with one or more wireless terminals. A base station always selects the first available time slot in a super time slot to transmit a paging message to a wireless terminal that is associated with the super time slot. Each wireless terminal monitors every time slot in the associated super time slot until either detecting reception of its associated paging message or detecting an empty time slot. In another embodiment of the invention, a unique partially overlapping super time slot format is employed in which a super time slot has at least one time slot common to its adjacent super time slots.

Abstract: A control arrangement for a home entertainment unit, including a television receiver and one or more peripheral devices, such as a video recorder, coupled to the television receiver, includes a single remote control transmitter for transmitting a remote control signal to the television receiver, which, in turn, passes on control instructions to the peripheral devices. To allow such a remote control operation, even when one or more of the peripheral devices is produced by a manufacturer different than that of the television receiver and which therefore requires a different remote control code, the television receiver has a memory in which, under the control of a microprocessor, the remote control codes allocated to respective function control keys of the remote control transmitter supplied with a peripheral device are stored during a learning process.

  • Patent number: 4952937
Abstract: A remotely mounted radar detector is mounted vertically behind a license plate with a reflector attached to the horn at an angle such that the reflector extends beyond one edge of the license plate to reflect incoming, horizontal radar signals into a vertically oriented plane and to the horn antenna. Preferably, a bracket snugly secures the license plate to the one end of the vehicle, with the radar detector sandwiched therebetween and facing downardly. The bottom portion of the bracket has a horizontal lip spaced from the bottom edge of the license plate so as not to obstruct incoming radar signals that pass therebetween enroute to the reflector. The bottom portion also has a vertical lip with a window, thereby to substantially hide the reflector from view and at the same time to permit passage therethrough of radar signals to the reflector.

  • Patent number: 4905279
Abstract: A remote control receiver which can be "taught" to recognize a remote control signal from any of a plurality of remote control receivers as its control signal. For this purpose, the transmitting code and the carrier of a remote control signal are analyzed and the transmitting code is stored in connection with the instruction content during a learning mode. Then, during normal operation, a received remote control signal is filtered by a band pass filter in which the filter band is set in accordance with the carrier of the remote control signal stored during the learning mode. The filtered signal is then decrypted with reference to the stored transmitting code, thereby permitting receipt of the remote control signal transmitted from a heterogeneous remote control transmitter. In this manner, the remote control receiver may be "taught" to respond to commands from a remote control transmitter the user is accustomed to using.

  • Patent number: 4825200
Abstract: A reconfigurable remote control transmitter can be used with a plurality of remotely controlled products, each of which is normally controlled with one or more signals from an associated remote control transmitter. The reconfigurable transmitter has a plurality of input keys and operates either in a Learn mode in which it may store indications of signals generated by the remote control transmitter from one or more of the products or a Run mode in which it selectively transmits stored signals in response to one or more keyed inputs. During the Learn mode a selected sequence of operations to be performed by one or more of the products in response to a first selected key sequence may be stored and during the Run mode stored signals are transmitted in a predetermined order in response to the performance of the selected key sequence to cause the selected sequence of operations to be performed.

  • Patent number: 4495654
Abstract: A remote control system for a television receiver includes a remote control transmitter with keys for initiating a scan type channel selection operation and a memory for storing a list of preferred channels and non-preferred channels. During a scanning operation the non-preferred channels are passed over (i.e., "skipped"). The battery of the remote control transmitter advantageously also maintains the contents of the "skip" memory so that it may be volatile. So that the same type of channel selection is available locally at the television receiver itself scan keys and an associated skip memory are also incorporated with the chassis of the television receiver. Apparatus is provided to automatically program the local skip memory with the contents of the remote skip memory so that a user does not have to program both skip memories.
