Abstract: Message notifications to an accessory from a mobile communication device are provided according to some embodiments of the invention. When a message such as a text message, email, and/or voicemail is received at a mobile communication device, the mobile communication device can notify an attached accessory that a message has been received. In response, the accessory can request the full message, media associated with the message, an attachment to the message, and/or an audio/video stream of the message for presentation to a user.

Abstract: Methods and systems are described wherein an initiating device sends a communication requesting a voice call session with a recipient device. In response, the initiating device receives a communication indicating that the initiating device can provide a text message instead of establishing the voice call session. In some cases, the communication may refuse the request voice call session, while in other cases the communication may simply indicate that the recipient device supports text messaging as an alternative to voice mail. As a result of the received communication, the initiating device outputs a text input prompt. After receiving text input in response to the prompt, the initiating device sends a text message containing the received text input.

Abstract: A method, system, and medium are provided for presenting carrier-specific information associated with an incoming communication on a mobile network. The method, system, and medium include a device that receives call information associated with an incoming call. The call information includes carrier-identification information that is useable to identify an originating carrier responsible for originating the incoming call. The carrier-identification information is communicated to a database and the database retrieves carrier-specific data. The carrier-specific data is communicated to a mobile device and presented via a presentation component coupled to the mobile device. The carrier-specific data may include a carrier identifier (“carrier-ID”), geographic designation, and a denotation as to whether the incoming communication is an in-carrier communication versus an inter-carrier communication. The presentation component may include a display, a speaker, and a vibration apparatus.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for an organizer that may receive a cellular portion to form a cellular telephone is provided. An organizer comprises an organizer component, including a microphone. The organizer further includes an area for receiving an additional component. The area is designed to receive a cellular component, and a connection element is designed to mate the microphone in the organizer component with the cellular component, to use the organizer as a part of a cellular telephone.

Abstract: An event notification device includes a wireless communication unit, an event occurrence information acquiring unit, an enabled-notice information acquiring unit, a notice setting unit, and an event occurrence notification unit. The wireless communication unit transmits and receives information on an online service from multiple external devices. The event occurrence information acquiring unit acquires an event occurrence notice via the wireless communication unit from the external devices. The enabled-notice information acquiring unit acquires enabled-notice information on the event occurrence notice via the wireless communication unit. The notice setting unit requests one external device to transmit the event occurrence notice and requests the other external devices not to transmit the event occurrence notice if the multiple external devices can individually transmit the same event occurrence notice.

Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method for facilitating paging of an access terminal operable in a radio communication system. The access terminal is identified by part of a pseudorandom, or random, number, such as a session seed. The part of the number is included in the page message when the access terminal is to be paged. When included in the message, the access terminal detects the page and the part of the number contained therein that identifies the access terminal.

Abstract: Apparatus, methods and computer-readable storage media for threading calls and messages are provided. A method can include: receiving messaging content; and displaying the messaging content in a single thread, wherein the messaging content is threaded and a thread of the messaging content comprises at least one text message and at least one call. The method can further include threading the messaging content, wherein the threading comprises ordering the messaging content based, at least, on a time at which received ones of the messaging content are received at a communication device.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a first computing device communicating with a second computing device through a communications channel transmits an out-of-band message indicative of the urgency of the communication through a notification channel. In particular embodiments, a server acts as a proxy for relaying the out-of-band message from the first device to the second device. The second device calculates an implicit urgency score based on the communication characteristics, and combines the implicit score with the explicit urgency indicator to determine whether a call is urgent. In particular embodiments, the server calculates an implicit urgency score based on a number of factors, and the score is composited with the overall urgency score. In particular embodiments, communication handling may be affected by the determination of urgency.

Abstract: Described is a pipeline for handling notification messages sent to a mobile messaging message (e.g., SMS or SMTP) recipient, and handling a reply to that notification message, including correlating the notification message with the reply. An engine receives a notification message, and for a notification message to which a reply is possible, maintains state data for use in correlating a received reply with the notification message. The state data includes metadata that indicates that text or code data is expected in any reply. For a reply providing code data, the engine calls a selected URL corresponding to the code. To facilitate message delivery, the engine may format the notification message, including shortening a URL of the message, and/or splitting a longer notification message into shorter notification messages.

Abstract: Systems and methods for priority inbox notifications and synchronization are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method includes, at a computer system, obtaining message information from a server system. The message information represents a set of messages and an importance score associated with each message in the set of messages. The importance score is generated based at least in part on a global importance prediction model and a user importance prediction model. A new mail notification is presented when a determination is made that the set of messages include one or more unread priority messages. The priority messages comprise messages with which the associated importance score satisfy one or more predefined message importance criteria: Optionally, presentation of a new mail notification is foregone when there is a determination that the set of messages do not include any unread priority messages.

Abstract: A mobile electronic communication device includes a processor unit, a transceiver, a keypad and a light unit. Each key of the keypad is associated with a contact of a contact list. The light unit can perform light functions to notify a user of the reception and/or status of messages received via the transceiver. The light functions include providing an indication of the age of a received message that was sent by a contact in the contacts list. The age of the message is indicated by a modulation of the illuminating light. In one embodiment, the age of a message is indicated as one of a set of predetermined age ranges, with each age range being represented by a unique color.

Abstract: An unintentional dialing event is detected by characterizing some action of a portable phone, e.g., its movement or its surroundings. The action can be characterized by a sensor, and that sensor can be for example an accelerometer, a camera in the phone, or a microphone in the phone, or some other way. The movement can be characterized to see if it is synchronous with entries on the keyboard, which would likely represent the unintentional dialing event or “but dialing”. The environment can also be characterized other ways, for example by using a microphone in the phone to text sound profiles or to detect sounds in sync with the entries, or can be characterized using a camera in the phone to detect a light profile.

Abstract: A method and system for processing a subscription to an e-mail message thread. Short Message Service (SMS) data is assigned to a mobile device. Both a telephone number associated with the mobile device and the assigned SMS data are assigned to a setting in a database stored in an e-mail message server. A subscription to updates related to an e-mail message thread associated with the e-mail message server is created. The creation of the subscription includes correlating the telephone number and the SMS data to a unique e-mail message thread identifier of the e-mail message thread. The updates related to the e-mail message thread are sent to the mobile device via the e-mail message server.

Abstract: Methods for reminding a user of a task associated with a communication are disclosed herein. One example of the method involves reminding the user of a task associated with an incoming communication, and another example of the method involves reminding the user of a task associated with an outgoing communication.

Abstract: Configurations providing a reusable stream model for a user interface over SMS for interacting with one or more interactive systems in a parallel manner are described. An SMS server can implement the reusable stream model in which an available number from a sequence of numbers (e.g., a block of numbers) is assigned to a user session upon receiving an SMS message to initiate the user session from a communication device. The user session corresponds with a message stream for the interactive system. In one aspect, the SMS server places each number from the sequence of numbers in a respective status to indicate whether the number is currently assigned to a user session. When a subsequent SMS message is received that requests to initiate an additional user session for another interactive system, the SMS can assign the next available number from the sequence to the additional user session.

Abstract: A method and device for generating message notifications at a mobile device is provided. A current operating context of the mobile device is determined. A first display representation for the received message in accordance with notification display settings associated with the determined current operating context is determined. Gesture information from a touch input component is determined and a second display representation comprising at least a portion of the received message and an action area for performing a direct action in response to the received message in response to the determined gesture information is generated.

Abstract: A method and device for generating message notifications at a computing device is provided. The computing device receives a message indicator from a mobile device, the indicator associated with a message received by the mobile device. The computing device generates a first display representation of the received message indicator. Positioning information is determined from an input component. A second display representation is generated comprising at least a portion of the message received at the mobile device and an action area for performing a direct action in response to the received message when the determined positioning information satisfies a display criteria associated with the second display representation.

Abstract: A method for displaying alternate account identifiers on a display of a speech recognition and display system includes receiving an account identifier corresponding to a message account associated with a mobile device from the mobile device. The method further includes causing the account identifier to be displayed, receiving a request to display an alternate account identifier, and causing the alternate account identifier for the account to be displayed.

Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments employed to generate device notifications based upon location data associated with a mobile device. To this end, a request to generate a device notification is obtained from a user application. Notification content is extracted from the request and an escalated or de-escalated notification level is applied that is based at least in part upon the location of the mobile device and properties about the location that can be identified.

In one embodiment, a method for processing messages in a social network includes receiving a new message from a first node in the network, the new message including a query, providing the first node with an answer to the query, if the answer is located in a repository, and initiating generation of the answer, if the answer is not located in the repository.

Abstract: Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for forming an event picture in a mobile communication terminal. If an event such as call reception, alarm or message reception occurs while a service picture is displayed on a screen of the terminal, the current service picture is backed up, a command input through the buttons provided to the terminal is interrupted and the event picture is overlapped over the current service picture, thereby allowing a user to perceive the corresponding event. Accordingly, the terminal user can correctly perceive the event occurred during the service. In addition, when the event occurs, the command input through the buttons is interrupted, so that it is possible to prevent an unintended event processing or erroneous operation due to an erroneous button manipulation.

Abstract: The system for delivering and confirming receipt of notification messages across different notification media comprises a processor. The processor is configured to: receive an indication of a new notification handle on a new notification channel from a content provider; use a mapping and the universal notification channel to provide the new notification handle to one or more platform notification services, wherein the new notification handle is sent to each of the one or more platform notification services through a communication module specific to that notification service; and for each user registered to the notification channel: in the event that a notification handle acknowledgement is received: add an indication that the user acknowledged the message to an acknowledgement database; and in the event that a notification handle acknowledgement is not received: provide the notification handle to the user again. A memory is coupled to the processor and configured to store instructions.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for managing interruptions in a multiple communication mode environment are provided herein. For example, a method may include receiving at least first and second instances of communication data associated with first and second communication modes; obtaining first and attribute data related to the first and second instances of communication data; classifying the first and second instances of communication data into first and second categories based on the first and second attribute data using the interruption management device; and determining whether to interrupt a user by delivering the first instance of communication data or the second instance of communication data based on the first and second categories, respectively. The first category and the second category may be selected from a plurality of predetermined categories using a classification algorithm. The first communication mode may be different than the second communication mode.

Abstract: Systems and techniques are provided for transmitting a secured message from an originating device to a recipient mobile device through a mobile communication network. A secure communication channel to the recipient mobile device is established via the mobile communication network based on a request for transmission of a secured message from the originating device. A notification of the secured message including instructions for retrieving the secured message is sent to the recipient mobile device through the established secured communication channel. The recipient mobile device is authenticated based on authentication credentials associated with the recipient mobile device. The recipient mobile device is allowed to retrieve the secured message via the secure data channel of the mobile communication network using the instructions included in the notification.

Abstract: A method and device of processing short messages are disclosed. The method includes: at a device having one or more processors and memory: receiving a message delivery request for a short message from a sender of the short message; processing the short message in accordance with a plurality of filtering rules associated an intended recipient of the short message; in response to a determination that the short message triggers at least one of the plurality of filtering rules, intercepting delivery of the short message from the intended recipient of the short message; and proactively re-evaluating the short message for re-delivery to the intended recipient in accordance with one or more message revival rules and one or more events occurring after the short message has been intercepted from delivery to the intended recipient.

Abstract: Systems and methods for archiving a delivery status of a text message in addition to the text message itself. In one embodiment, a message center receives a text message, and attempts delivery of the text message to a recipient. The message center generates a copy of the text message, and sends the copy of the text message to an archive center for archiving. The message center also identifies a delivery status of the text message, and sends the delivery status to the archive center for archiving in addition to the copy of the text message.

Abstract: A method of providing a message service in a sender's wireless device is disclosed. The sender's wireless device may be capable of sending messages via a packet switched base station in a first mode, or via a short message service (SMS) base station that is independent of the packet switched base station, in a second mode. The sender's wireless device determines whether a destination address corresponds to a subscriber of a service for receiving the outgoing message via a packet switched bearer. The sender's wireless device sends, if the destination address corresponds to a subscriber of the service, the outgoing message to the recipient's wireless device via the packet switched base station in the first mode. If the destination address does not correspond to a subscriber of the service, the outgoing message may be sent via the SMS base station in the second mode.

Abstract: Techniques for use by a mobile device configured to operate in a wireless network for the communication of data messages with a server are described. When the mobile device does not have an open session with the server, the mobile device receives from a service node via the wireless network a message which informs the mobile device that a data message has arrived at the server and needs to be retrieved. The message includes an identifier which identifies the data message at the server. In response to opening an application at the mobile device, the mobile device communicates directly with the server via the wireless network for retrieving the data message. This involves commencing an open session with the server, sending to the server a command for retrieving the data message, and receiving from the server the data message in response to sending the command. The mobile device may use the identifier for retrieving the data message from the server.

Abstract: A system and method for managing voice mail messages associated with a mobile device. The method can include receiving, by a processor of the mobile device, at least one identifier associated with a sending device that initially stored, external to the mobile device, a visual voice mail message associated with the mobile device. The processor can compare the at least one identifier with one or more lists of predetermined identifiers stored on the mobile device. The one or more lists include at least one of a list of approved predetermined identifiers and a list of disapproved predetermined identifiers. Based on the comparison, appropriated actions can occur based on rules stored on the mobile device.

If the subscriber has an insufficient account balance, the request is withheld and the mobile station is notified by a short message.

Abstract: Described is a system and method for processing a voice mail. The method comprises receiving a voice mail, converting the voice mail into a text message using a predefined speech-to-text conversion algorithm and transmitting the text message to a wireless computing device.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for providing call connection notification. In order to provide a call connection notification service, a telephone number of a callee may be received when a caller transmits a call connection request to the callee. Based on the telephone number of the callee, public relations (PR) information may be searched for. A result of the searching may be provided to a user equipment of the caller.

Abstract: A message notification system includes a message transmitting apparatus and a message receiving apparatus. In the message transmitting apparatus, transmission data including an acquired message is generated and transmitted. In the message receiving apparatus, the transmission data is received. When the transmission data is received, the message receiving apparatus notifies a receiving-side user of the message in the transmission data. Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method for transmitting a message from a portable communication device to a separate terminal including a step of recording at the portable communication device a voice message, and a step of generating, at the portable communication device, a multimedia file including at least the voice message. According to the disclosure, the portable communication device transmits to the separate terminal a signal including the multimedia file and a specific flag for indicating that the voice message is to be displayed as a text message. Upon reception of the signal at the separate terminal, the voice message is extracted and specific flag is detected. Upon detection of the specific flag, speech-to-text conversion is performed at the separate terminal in order to transform the voice message into a text message to be displayed.

Abstract: Methods and devices are provided for identifying a caller after receiving a missed call from a calling device that is not associated with the caller. An exemplary method involves obtaining an audio message from the caller, recognizing the caller as being a first contact of the called individual by matching an audio sample associated with the first contact to at least a portion of the audio message, and graphically indicating an association between the first contact and the missed call after recognizing the first contact as the caller.

Abstract: A method of initiating a communication from a mobile communication device includes receiving a plurality of spoken letters corresponding to a spelling of at least a portion of a contact name and identifying a contact and associated contact information from a database associated with a mobile communication device in response to the spoken letters. A communication to the contact is initiated from the mobile communication device using the associated contact information. A method of presenting voicemail to a user establishes communication with a mobile communication device. A first voicemail box is checked for messages, the first voicemail box being associated with the mobile communication device. A second voicemail box is checked for messages, the second voicemail box being associated with a second communication device. At least one voicemail message received from at least one of the first and second voicemail boxes is presented to a user via a single interface.

Abstract: A cellular communication network has a mobile switching center (MSC) that maintains a GPS location data of a mobile handset referenced by a mobile identification number (MIN) and an electronic serial number (ESN) in addition to a geographic cell number in an HLR database for handsets operating in the network. The GPS location data of the handset may be used for efficient paging to a specific cell to route incoming calls to the handset, route emergency responder calls with the physical location of the handset and to program the handset with the handset transmission strength to the nearest cell tower In lieu of using triangulation algorithm.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide systems and methods for dynamically forwarding incoming calls and/or messages to different mobile communications devices (“MCDs”). In one embodiment, a method may include: storing associations between multiple MCDs and a user and identifying that at least one of the MCDs is inactive and that at least one of the MCDs is active. The method may further include: receiving an incoming call or message intended for the at least one inactive MCD; and if only one of the MCDs is active, causing the incoming call or message to be forwarded to the one active MCD; and if more than one of the MCDs is active, either: (a) causing the incoming call or message to be forwarded to at least one of the active MCDs or (b) not causing the incoming call or message to be forwarded.

Abstract: A call reminder system includes a transmitting module and a processing module. The transmitting module receives an outside signal to generate a call signal. The processing module is connected to the transmitting module to receive the call signal and generate a call message corresponding to the call signal. When an executed signal is not received by the processing module in a first predetermined time, and the call message is in compliance with a reminder condition determined by the processing module, the processing module will generate a first reminder signal and deliver the first reminder signal to an external electronic device by the transmitting module. Thereby, the function of reminding the user of unanswered calls may be achieved.

Abstract: A method and system facilitate the one or more operating modes for monitoring of an intelligent home system. The method and system facilitate the detection of an adverse condition in a building, the generation of an alert based on the detection of adverse condition, sending a notification to a user about the alert, asking the user how to respond to the alert via a message sent to a mobile device, and determining whether to send the alert to a central monitoring system to facilitate notification of an appropriate responder for the adverse condition. Determining whether to send the alert to the central monitoring system may be based on an affirmative command from the user or a failure to receive any command from the user. The user may be notified via at least one of a telephone call, text message, email, or application notification. The user may provide instructions to the method and system via at least one of a telephone call, text message, email, application command, or web script.
