  • Patent number: 8311541
Abstract: It is provided a mobile communication system comprising base stations, call control servers and access gateways. The call control servers cause a mobile terminal accommodated in one of the control server to transmit the location registration request so that the mobile terminal accommodates in another control server according to a processing amount of control signals. The base station selects a second call control server into which the one of the mobile terminals is to be newly accommodated. The one of the call control server switches to a power-saving state after the mobile terminal is accommodated into the another call control server.

  • Patent number: 8301110
Abstract: Devices and systems provide for proximity based selection of an implantable medical device for far field communication with an external device. By using a proximity communication that is limited to the IMD of interest during the selection process, the external device can eliminate those IMDs that are in range of far field communications but are able to receive the proximity communication. Thus, information may be shared via a proximity communication that is validated via a far field communication, or shared via a far field communication as a challenge and then validated via a proximity communication. The proximity communication may be used to initially limit the number of devices that respond to a discovery request and then subsequently used to select the intended implantable medical device as well as automatically select the appropriate therapy application corresponding to the selected IMD.

  • Patent number: 8254283
Abstract: A method and device for identifying degradation in service quality for a wireless media service. The wireless media service has a known expected packet generation rate, which may be determined by the device based upon the codec and payload size selected on initiating the media service. At a receiving device, the packets actually received by the device from the other termination point are counted over a time period, and this number is compared with the number of packets that were expected based upon the known packet generation rate. From this comparison a packet loss rate may be determined. If the packet loss rate exceeds a threshold level, then the device may issue a user alert, terminate the service, or take other action. The threshold level may be established based upon a packet loss rate corresponding to a significant degree of service quality degradation.

Abstract: Network circuitry and a method of operating the same in establishing and deleting a service flow in a wireless network. A network station receives a request, from an initiating network station, to establish a service flow. The network station receiving the request issues a response to that request, following which it expects an acknowledgement from the initiator. Upon absence of such an acknowledgement, the receiving station transmits a message, to the initiator, to explicitly delete the service flow. This ensures that the initiator is not placed into an ambiguous state of transmitting payload traffic to a receiver that is ignoring or not receiving that traffic, in the case in which the initiator is also the transmitter of the payload traffic. This circuitry and method also ensures that the initiator is not in an ambiguous state, in the case in which it is the intended receiver of the payload traffic.

  • Patent number: 8130678
Abstract: Disclosed relates to an automatic fall behind warning method and system applied in a group activity environment. Each individual in the group corresponds to a node and all of such nodes form an independent network. The method initializes an outside node table for the group and gets a link quality index table (LQI table) among the nodes on the network. A table specifying outside and inside nodes for the network topology is generated via an algorithm. Then the method checks if there is a node being disappearing from the outside nodes of the generated table. If not, it updates the outside node table and continues to get a newest LQI table. If so, the node falls behind is confirmed and a warning notice is automatically generated once the disappearing node is not an inside node is verified. Otherwise, the method returns to the step of updating the outside node table.

The location of each group member is known on the basis of the determined location of the mobile communications device of each, either in absolute terms or in relative terms. The absolute and/or relative location may be reported by the mobile communications devices, such as to a mobile communications device of an administrator of the group or directly to individual group members. Rules may be established for providing notifications such as alerts and alarms to the group members when a group member strays from the group or from a fixed reference point and information may be provided to the straying member to assist the straying member in returning to the group.

  • Patent number: 8085742
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for use by a mobile communication device in facilitating voice calls through a wireless local area network (WLAN) and a wireless wide area network (WWAN) are disclosed. When switching communication operations from a WLAN coverage region of the WLAN to a WWAN coverage region of the WWAN, the mobile device causes a message for forwarding voice calls to a WWAN identification number of the mobile device to be transmitted through the WLAN. The mobile device subsequently causes a message for cancelling the forwarding of voice calls to a WLAN identification number of the mobile device to be transmitted through the WWAN. When switching communication operations from the WWAN coverage region of the WWAN to the WLAN coverage region of the WLAN, the mobile device causes a message for forwarding voice calls to the WLAN identification number of the mobile device to be transmitted through the WWAN.

  • Patent number: 8086227
Abstract: Methods are described for using collaboration of neighboring wireless devices to enable location of disconnected wireless devices and rogue wireless access points. A central server computes the locations of the neighboring clients and uses those locations to estimate the location of a disconnected client. These techniques may take advantage of the beaconing and probing mechanisms of IEEE 802.11 to ensure that connected clients do not pay unnecessary overheads for detecting disconnected clients. Methods are also described for detecting and locating rogue devices by collaboratively collecting information from neighboring devices and comparing the information to a database.
