  • Patent number: 9294910
Abstract: A UE indicates its radio access capabilities to the base station. An element is added to the radio access capabilities reported by the UE, to indicate in a release-independent manner if a certain network signaling parameter (e.g., NS-value) has been modified or if a new parameter has been introduced for an operating band. In this manner, the base station can distinguish UE with a modified NS-value behavior from legacy UE for the purpose of admission control, imposing scheduling or handover restrictions, or the like.

  • Patent number: 9294981
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a system and method for dynamically managing load on network devices in a distributed manner. As the proliferation of data rich content and increasingly more capable mobile devices has continued, the amount of data communicated over mobile operator's networks has exponentially increased. Upgrading the existing network to accommodate increased data traffic is neither desirable nor practical. One way to accommodate increased data traffic is by utilizing network resources more efficiently. This disclosure provides systems and methods for efficiently utilizing network resources by dynamically configuring the network in a distributed manner based on real-time load information.

  • Patent number: 9288651
Abstract: A system for dynamically coupling a special number call from a calling unit with at least one function-focused answerer includes: (a) at least one of an unlicensed mobile access network, a radio access network, and a public switched telephone network configured and situated for communicative coupling with the calling unit; (b) at least one network switch coupled with at least one of the networks; and (c) a special number call receiver coupled with the network switch. At least one of the special number call receiver and the network switch is configured for communicative coupling of the special number call with the at least one function-focused answerer unit. After receiving the special number call, the special number call receiver dynamically couples the special number call to an included function-focused answerer. Determining which function-focused answerer is an included function-focused answerer is made at the special number call receiver.

  • Patent number: 9288700
Abstract: A method is performed in a network node of a mobile communication network, for determining a dropped connection to a mobile terminal. The method comprises: detecting a release of a radio bearer associated with the mobile terminal; determining whether the radio bearer is a real-time type radio bearer; when the radio bearer is a real-time type radio bearer, determining the released radio bearer to be a dropped connection when the release is classified as an involuntary release; and when the radio bearer differs from a real-time type radio bearer, determining the released radio bearer to be a dropped connection when there is remaining user data in a buffer for transfer in either direction over the released radio bearer. A corresponding network node, computer program and computer program product are also presented.

  • Patent number: 9282470
Abstract: A method and apparatus of detecting a radio link failure in a wireless communication system is provided. A mobile station initializes a radio link failure (RLF) counter for detecting the radio link failure and determines whether decoding of a message on a downlink channel is successful. The mobile station decrements a value of the RLF counter if the decoding fails, and increments the value of the RLF counter if the decoding is successful, and declaring the radio link failure if the value of the RLF counter is less than or equal to a specific value. A decrement size of the value of the RLF counter varies according to a received signal strength of the downlink channel.
