Abstract: Methods and systems of continuously optimizing data in WiFi positioning systems. A location-based services system uses WiFi-enabled devices to monitor WiFi access points in a target area to indicate whether a WiFi access point is newly-observed. A WiFi-enabled device communicates with WiFi access points within range of the WiFi-enabled device so that observed WiFi access points identify themselves. A reference database is accessed to obtain information specifying a recorded location for each observed WiFi access point in the target area. Observed WiFi access points for which the reference database has no information specifying a corresponding recorded location are identified. The recorded location information for each of the observed WiFi access points is used to calculate the position of the WiFi-enabled device. The reference database is informed of the WiFi access points (for which there was no information in the database) and is provided the calculated position in conjunction therewith.

  • Patent number: 8996052
Abstract: This disclosure relates to relating time-to-live information with location data for wireless network access points. A freshness component determines a value associated with a freshness of location data for an access point. An encoding component encodes the value into a time-to-live information element included publicly broadcast access point information, and a transmitter transmits the publicly broadcast access point information. The publicly broadcast access point information includes at least one of a beacon frame or probe response. Additionally, by providing a value satisfying a non-inclusion threshold for the time-to-live information, emitters or network administrations may use time-to-live information to indicate that they do not wish to have location data for an access point stored.

Abstract: A system, method and apparatus for protecting privacy when a mobile device is located in a defined privacy zone are described herein. The available features that a user of a mobile device may use are controlled while the mobile device is located in a define privacy zone. Once a mobile device is detected in the define privacy zone, a database is accessed to determine if the mobile device has the features available that are to be disabled. If the features are available, a disable signal is sent via the communications network to the mobile device and the feature is disabled. Once the mobile device is detected to be outside of the defined privacy zone, the previously disabled mobile device feature is enabled.

Abstract: There is provided a base station positioning apparatus, a base station positioning method, and a base station positioning program for reducing an error in a transverse direction with respect to a direction from a base station toward a barycentric position of a cell of the base station when a position of a mobile terminal is estimated in the time-of-arrival positioning method. A correction candidate area specifying unit (66) calculates a difference between: an RSRP for each area acquired by a quality data acquiring unit (65) in the case where the interior of a service area is divided into areas with the same radio wave intensities; and an RSRP received by a radio wave intensity acquiring unit (62) when an MT (50) receives a signal. An area where the difference is within a predetermined threshold value is specified as a correction candidate area among the divided areas.

Abstract: Disclosed are a location service providing system and a method for providing a triggered location request service. An H-SLP sets a priority order of a plurality of positioning methods which a target terminal supports according to a set priority order set condition and transmits priority order information according to respective positioning methods to the target terminal. Further, the target terminal may receive information about the positioning methods including the priority order and select a positioning method having the highest priority order among the positioning methods, which can be used in its current electric wave environment. Moreover, the H-SLP and the target terminal may calculate a location of the target terminal according to a positioning method that the target terminal has selected.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting or detecting primary synchronization signal. The receiver receives primary synchronization signal from a transmitter, and detects the sequence used in the received primary synchronization signal by using three root indexes. Here, the primary synchronization signal is generated by using a Zadoff-Chu sequence having one of the three root indexes. The three root indexes comprise a first index and a second index, and a sum of the first index and the second index corresponds to the length of the Zadoff-Chu sequence.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for venue-based device control and user/position/venue context determinations. Venue corresponds to a geographic region. Venue relevant information is information associated with a venue. A controlled quasi-transient signal comprises a signal, emitted by an entity intrinsic to the venue and not intended to be utilized for operation of the device, coupled with a quasi-transient signal that is coded with the venue relevant information. When a device located in a venue receives a controlled quasi-transient signal, venue-relevant information associated with the venue can be extracted from the controlled quasi-transient signal. Based on the extracted venue relevant information, the device can be controlled in accordance with a control signal generated based on the venue relevant information.
