  • Patent number: 11438728
Abstract: A local entity is proposed for determination of user equipment location in a mobile communication network. The local entity is configured to be run on a first user equipment and/or in an access network. The local entity is configured to receive location information of a target user equipment, and determine a location of the target user equipment based on the location information. This is advantageous because the determination of the location can be improved with regard to a determination of the location carried out by the core network. Particularly, the location can be determined without the core network being involved.

  • Patent number: 11418910
Abstract: There is a growing problem in correctional facilities in which contraband devices may be smuggled into a correctional facility. These devices are not subject to the typical monitoring and control provided by the inmate communication system provided by the correctional facility, and thus pose a significant security risk. The present disclosure provides details of a system and method that leverages the sanctioned mobile devices and the wireless infrastructure of the inmate communication system to scan for and triangulate the location of contraband devices. The mobile and wireless infrastructure devices scan for transmissions indicative of a contraband device and send alerts to each other and to a central monitoring system. The central monitoring system then leverages multiple alerts to determine a location of the contraband device using multiple triangulation techniques. The triangulation may also be performed by the mobile devices themselves.

Abstract: Disclosed is an approach for detecting that a state of an air-conditioning system in a building has changed and ultimately determining the air-conditioning system's operating pattern, which could help improve collection and/or use of crowdsourced data for an indoor positioning solution and thus lead to more accurate position estimates. According to the disclosed approach, processor(s) may receive pressure and movement data from a mobile device. The pressure data may indicate a pressure change, and the movement data may indicate a movement pattern of the mobile device that occurred substantially during the pressure change. Given this, processor(s) could make a determination that the movement pattern lacks a substantial change in altitude of the mobile device during the pressure change and could use this determination as basis to detect that the state of the air-conditioning system has changed.

Abstract: A system may include a first processor for storing, in a key-value column-based database, data records from data sources of a cellular network that is transformed into a single format. Customer identifiers may be used as key-values for indexing the data records in the key-value column-based database. The system may include a second processor for creating session records from the data records. Each session record may include a velocity of an endpoint device associated with a session and a number of inter-cell handoff attempts for the session. Each session record may also be labeled with a session identifier comprising a customer identifier and a timestamp. The system may further include a third processor for creating cell-level records from the session records. Each cell-level record may include a plurality of key performance indicators for a cell site of the cellular network segregated by a plurality of endpoint device types.

Abstract: Systems and techniques are provided for indoor positioning for mobile devices. An orientation of a mobile device may be determined. An angle of a line-of-sight between the mobile device and the base station may be determined based on a peak received signal strength of a signal from the base station at a beamforming antenna of the mobile device. A distance between the mobile device and the base station may be determined based on the peak received signal strength. The mobile device may calculate the location of the mobile device using the measured orientation, the angle of the line-of-sight, and the distance between the mobile device and the base station, and a location of the base station.

Abstract: Systems and methods for causing messages to be presented to users involve updating and using geofencing data to determine whether and when to present a message to a user via a user computing device. Geofencing data that defines the closest relevant geofences to the current position of a user computing device can be provided to a software application on the user computing device on a periodic basis, or when the software application is loaded and run. The software application can then register the geofences with an operating system of the user computing device. When the user computing device determines that the user computing device has entered a geofence, this information can be used to determine whether to present the user with a message.

  • Patent number: 11019487
Abstract: Uplink high efficiency location of a user equipment (UE) includes initiating periodic or triggered location in the UE by a location server (LS) in a wireless network. The UE enters an idle state and monitors for triggering events. After detecting an event, the UE transmits an uplink positioning signal (UPS) to a base station, where the UPS encodes UPS data comprising a UE ID, an ID for the LS, an authentication code (AC) and location measurements. UPS transmission occurs in an uplink positioning occasion shared with other UEs. The location measurements may be ciphered but other UPS data is unciphered. The base station obtains additional location measurements and transfers the UPS data and the location measurements to the LS. The LS authenticates the UE ID using the AC, determines the UE location using the location measurements and transfers the location to an external client.
