Abstract: A plurality of nodes 2-n are assigned to a plurality of operators. The each node 2-n detects input operation of the corresponding operator to transmit detection information in a wireless manner. A host 27 receives the detection information transmitted in the wireless manner by the each node 2-n. The host 27 transmits a beacon signal BS to the plurality of the nodes 2-n in a predetermined cycle CY. The each node 2-n performs processing of detecting the input operation while changing time, i.e., at times ST0 to ST3 to transmit the detection information to the host 27 in response to the beacon signal BS. It is possible to finely detect order of changes of the detection information among the plurality of the nodes.

Abstract: Embodiments of a link assessment and frequency monitoring system for use in wireless sensor networks are described. In one embodiment, each frequency utilized by links coupling two or more nodes in the network is sampled to determine a noise measure for each frequency. A correlation measure based on the distance between the noise measures for each pair of frequencies is determined. The frequencies are then clustered into a number of groups of frequencies based on the correlation measure between each pair of frequencies, such that the number of groups is less than the total number of frequencies. A representative frequency for each group of frequencies is selected, and a link quality assessment for each pair of nodes in the network is performed for the representative frequency of each group of frequencies.

  • Patent number: 7574216
Abstract: Method for obtaining range and/or positional information of electronic devices typically rely on a device (A) re-questing that another device (B) supplies a reply message (22), which contains some timing information (T2, T3) on the signals received and sent. Problems that arise in such networks comprise: firstly, some devices (C) may be out of range of the device (A) that initiates the ranging measurements, and secondly, some devices (B, C) may not be allowed to communicate with each other and thus, the distance between these devices cannot be found. This invention discloses that in these cases, eavesdropping on messages (21, 22, 24) passing between other devices (A, B, C) in the system can result in that distances between additional devices are found. Furthermore, by using eavesdropping the number of transmissions, and therefore the potential for collisions, is reduced. Thus, the power consumption of the nodes in the network can be lowered.

Abstract: A central controller (CC) [22] of a wireless Local area network (LAN) [20], in conjunction with an association operation with a mobile terminal [24] and upon receiving from the mobile terminal (MT) a first control signal [CS1] of a sequence of control signals involved in the association operation, pre-reserves a MAC resource for transmission of at least a further control signal in the sequence. The MAC resource for the further control signal is pre-reserved prior to information for the further control signal being stored in a transmission buffer [58] of the mobile terminal. In essence, judging from the nature of the first control signal, the central controller (CC) anticipates eventuality of the further control signal and pre-reserves the MAC resource for the further control signal. The central controller (CC) pre-reserves the MAC resource to avoid transmission of a separate message to request a MAC resource for the further control signal.

For allocating subcarriers to signals, the base station determines an order of priority for signals destined for mobile stations on the basis of whether each mobile station is the first mobile station or not. The radio relay station allocates subcarriers to the signals, independently of subcarrier allocation made at the base station. The computing arrangement communicates with a further device only during the second time interval.

Abstract: A wireless cellular network includes an access point selector that selects an access point for forwarding data from a wireless device. When data is received with an unacceptable quality level, the access point selector queries other access points for the same data. The queried access points send data quality information to the access point selector. The access point selector uses the data quality information for selecting another one of the access points to forward data from the wireless device.

Abstract: In the energy saving mode, a card I/F circuit section is controlled to turn ON intermittently for a predetermined interval by using a switch. The I/F circuit section supplies electric power to an outside I/F part during the ON interval, and receives some communication data from the outside. When the communication data received by the I/F circuit section is a request for a return from the energy saving mode, a return to the ordinary mode is effected. Therefore, an I/F part, such as a non-contact IC card, requiring external electric power supply can be used as a factor of a request for a return from the energy saving mode. In addition, the energy consumption for that purpose can be reduced.

When the request is sent, the selecting portion initially selects a first base station of the base stations whose received radio wave has the highest intensity measured by the measuring portion, and, subsequently if the location registration in accordance with the request sent to one of the base stations has failed, the selecting portion selects a second base station of the base stations whose received radio wave has intensity lower than the intensity of the received radio wave from the one of the base stations.

Abstract: A master transceiver automatically lowers its transmit power level at intervals until a slave transceiver no longer accurately receives the transmitted data. When the master detects an inaccurate transfer of data, the master incrementally increases the transmit power level until it is determined that there has been an accurate transfer of data. At that time, the master transmits an acknowledge signal to the slave. Since the automatic power adjust routine is performed using the transmitted data from the master and the error control information transmitted by the slave, there is little or no overhead used by the power adjust routine. Simple control circuitry can be used to carry out the functions.

Abstract: Methods, devices, and systems for wireless communication in which one or more devices are scheduled to awake from a low power sleep state at a scheduled time for data transmission. An illustrative embodiment addresses difficulties that may arise as a result of clock errors that can occur when a device enters a sleep mode for a period of time with a scheduled wake-up time. The device that enters sleep mode may be a remote device in a system including a master device that devises a schedule for the remote device to enter and exit sleep and active communication modes.
