  • Publication number: 20020065043
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a radio transmission device comprising data inputting means for inputting transmission data, data storing means for storing the inputted transmission data temporarily, data compression means for reading data from the data storing means to compress the data, and data transmitting means for transmitting the compressed data through a radio line. With this configuration, a real-time signal in a radio transmission system, in which effective throughput is not guaranteed like ACL link of Bluetooth can be transmitted and received. Delay of data transmission caused by a change in throughput of the line is absorbed by the data storing means. In addition, controlling a compression rate in response to the change in throughput enables transmission with an optimum data rate.

  • Patent number: 6363258
Abstract: A group call server supplies communications terminals of a certain type with an indication of call type, and optionally other information, for group calls so as to distinguish such calls from other types of calls. The group call server in charge of the group call may selectively augment the calling party number field of the outgoing paging message with one or more indicator flags when the targeted communications terminal is adapted to receive and act upon such information. The indicator flags indicate one or more characteristics of the group call, such as call type, call subtype, or priority level. One flag may indicate priority level and another may indicate the call subtype of the group call. The communications terminals receiving the augmented paging message will base their response, such as to auto-answer or not, on the group call characteristics indicated in the paging message.

  • Patent number: 6321093
Abstract: There is disclosed a wireless communications network in which a group of base stations are served by a mobile switching center that maintains a master data record for all missed calls from mobile devices in all base station coverage areas. Missed call data are stored in different priority level queues in each of the bases stations. When a call is missed in a first base station coverage area, a time stamp or a sequence number for the missed call is stored in the mobile switching center. If the mobile device moves into a second base station coverage area, the mobile device re-originates the missed call. The second base station receives from the mobile switching center the priority level of the re-originated call and the time stamp or unique sequence number from the mobile switching center.

  • Patent number: 6272334
Abstract: A multi-site dispatch communication network includes a hub controller programmed to expedite the connection between multiple radio cells to accomplish a broadcast of the radio transmission. A routing table is employed to provide an association between the various group identification codes and the respective mobile radio cell sites servicing members of the group. A connection table is employed to identify the resources utilized in the dispatch communication connection. When a dispatch communication is initiated, the routing table is accessed to determine which mobile radio cell sites service the various members of the group. When a connection is made to establish the dispatch communication, the connection table is written with information concerning the resources utilized to complete the dispatch communication. In this manner, dispatch communications can be quickly established and terminated. The resources of the network are thereby optimized.

  • Patent number: 6223031
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process and a device in a radio communication system for observing the quality of channels that are to used in uplink and channels that are to be used in downlink. A quality parameter, for example the interference, is measured (301) for both uplink channels and downlink channels from a measurement receiver comprised in each base station. The measured interference is an approximation to the real downlink interference. The approximation has best correspondence with the real interference situation when the base station and the mobile stations are placed at similar height, for instance in micro- and pico cells. The measurement values can be used for adaptive allocation of frequencies or channels, or for giving statistical information about the radio communication system.

Routing of requests to the correct HLR is simplified by routing all such requests to the original or master HLR and forwarding only those requests for which data is stored on one of the back-up or cascaded HLRs. This avoids the need for changes in the existing system routing plan. In a further embodiment two HLRs may form a mutually boosting pair.

Abstract: Techniques for enhancing radiocommunication systems, e.g., radio local loop systems, are described. Radio local loop systems replace a portion of the wired connections between a local exchange and, for example, a telephone set, with a wireless connection. Like conventional wired systems, remote unit mobility is limited. However, the present invention supports system reconfigurations, such as cell splitting, in a manner which obviates the conventional necessity of reprogramming each remote unit in a radio local loop system. Backup cells can also be provided to enhance system reliability.

  • Patent number: 5542099
Abstract: Processing of dispatch calls in a simulcast multi-site communication system begins when a source communication unit transmits a message to one or more network receivers. The received signals are analyzed at the received sites to determine a signal quality metric. Each of the signals are time stamped to identify when they where received. The received signals are transported with their time stamp and signal quality metric to each of the other sites via a digital communication network connecting the sites. Each transmitter site performs a transmit operation by first determining the receiver source with the best quality signal as indicated by the signal quality metric. The determined best quality signal is stored until it is time to transmit the signal in phase with all the other transmitter sites in a simulcast manner. The time stamp allows a time in the future to be chosen to accommodate the worst case expected transport delay through the digital network.
