  • Patent number: 9709421
Abstract: A method and a system for collection of meter readings from meter reading and transmitting devices (12, 14) and for viewing on a web-enabled wireless communication device (28) comprises addressing at least one receiver (15) through the Internet (21) and obtaining a data file of meter data for a plurality of meter reading devices (12, 14) that have previously communicated with the receiver (15). The receiver (15) can then re-transmit the meter data through a wide area network such as the Internet (21) to a web site (10) operated by an organization marketing AMR systems. The meter data is then accessed and displayed at a customer demonstration site using a handheld wireless smart phone (28) which receives a web page (22) that is reduced in size for transmission through the cellular network to the smart phone (28).

  • Patent number: 9704313
Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods for interacting with access control devices. In overview, a human user physically identifies an access control device with which he/she wishes to interact, for example in the context of providing commissioning and/or configuration data. The user then makes a physical local interaction with the device, for example by way of a smartcard having predefined characteristics. This causes the access control device to enable a wireless communications protocol, thereby to allow the user to discover the device using a portable device which implements a complementary wireless communications protocol. Commissioning information is then provided by way of the portable device to the access control device in a wireless manner. Once this is complete, the access control device disables the wireless communications protocol.

Abstract: Provided herein in some embodiments is an apparatus including a rendered information-adjustment module configured to cooperate with a display interface to dynamically size-adjust rendered information displayed on the display screen, a distance module, a vision properties module, and a display modification module. The distance module can be configured to periodically determine a facial proximity to the display screen for the user in accordance with a periodic algorithm. The vision properties module can be configured to collect vision properties and store the vision properties in a vision record for the user. The display modification module can be configured to determine a direction and a magnitude for adjusting the rendered information to a new size. The periodic algorithm conserves the battery power by periodically invoking the one or more facial proximity sensors, which, in turn, reduces otherwise continuous battery power-draining size adjustments to the rendered information on the display screen.

Abstract: Instead of shading a triangle from the rasterizer as soon as it is known that there is a sample inside the triangle, in accordance with one embodiment, shading is delayed until the triangle beside it, called the neighboring triangle, is received. If there is a neighboring triangle facing the same way, with non-mutually exclusive coverage, meaning that it is not overlapping the same region, then the shader shades only once for the pair of triangles. That is, two separate fragments are merged and treated as one fragment. Specifically, the fragment that is over the pixel center is the one that is used and the other fragment is replaced by merging. The merger happens only over the extent of a pixel and more than one primitive is not shaded at a time. However, multiple merges within a 2×2 block of pixels are possible.

  • Patent number: 9420625
Abstract: In a WCDMA mobile communication system, when the amount of packet traffic transmitted to or received from a UE decreases during a predetermined time in a CELL_DCH state in which a WCDMA packet data connection has been established, the UE transitions to a CELL_FACH state by a radio network controller (RNC). Thereafter, it is determined if there is no transmitted or received packet traffic during a certain time in the CELL_FACH state (which is an RRC state in which an RRC connection has been connected, and the dedicated physical channel has been released). When it is determined that there is no transmitted or received packet traffic during the certain time, the UE requests a network to release the RRC connection by utilizing a Signaling Connection Release Indication (SCRI) message. The invention enables a UE to check a packet transmission or reception flow, and to directly transmit the SCRI message to the network.

Abstract: An improved tethering system is described in which a handheld device can be used by a user to reach the same network that the handheld device also provides access to for a tethering machine. Specifically, as described herein, a handheld device provides a tethering machine with access to a remote network (e.g., the Internet) through a wireless network that the handheld device is communicatively coupled to. Not only is the handheld device able to support multiple data flows between the tethering machine and the remote network, but also, the handheld device is capable of being used by a user to “surf” or otherwise access the same remote network that the handheld device provides the tethering machine with access to. For example, if the remote network is the Internet and the handheld device is a “smart phone”, a user who is holding the smart phone can access the Internet concurrently with one or more applications on the tethering machine that are also access the Internet.
