Abstract: A radio module that detachably connects with a host device. A radio module is provided that includes an antenna as an integral part of the radio module. The antenna satisfies regulatory requirements by being an integral part of the radio module. The radio module includes an interface circuit that provides the processing required for communication over a wireless network. The functionality of the interface can be divided between the radio module and the host device. The physical interface between a host device and the radio module may depend on which functions are implemented by the radio module and which functions are implemented by the host device. In one example, the physical interface is a standard connection that permits the radio module to be detachably connected with multiple devices. The radio module also includes a flexible cable such that the radio module can be optimally positioned within the wireless network.

Abstract: A method is proposed for operating a portable data carrier designed for executing reloadable function programs. According to the method the data carrier initially has installed thereon a loader interface which allows the reloading of load applications which in turn permit the loading of function programs. Each load application has allotted thereto an invariable assigned address space. To support the management of an assigned address space, badges are produced for application programs to be reloaded, said badges containing information about the size of the memory space required for the application program. Address space in the memory device is allotted to application programs to be reloaded in accordance with the size information provided on the badges. A data carrier suitable for carrying out said method is further disclosed.

Abstract: This invention provides a circuit and a method for interfacing a subscriber information module, SIM to a base band controller for a mobile phone. It provides voltage level shifting to allow a low voltage base band controller chip to interface to a higher voltage SIM card. The higher voltage bus goes to the SIM card of a mobile phone. The subscriber information module typically contains personal information such as telephone number, identification codes and pin numbers. The circuit of this invention uses active transistor pull-down and pull-up mechanisms. The active pull-up is active for less than one bit time so that the SIM card sees only a 20 kilo ohm resistor allowing performances equal to or better than ISO7816 specifications.

Abstract: In a cordless telephone set, a base unit which itself has no loudspeaker function is made to provide a loudspeaker function at low cost. The base unit 2 has a transmitting circuit 22 for transmitting an aural signal and data to the handset 1 and a receiving circuit 23 for receiving and extracting the aural signal and data transmitted from the handset 1. A line interface circuit 25 coupled to a telephone line 3, a loudspeaker 44, and a selector circuit 28 for switching connection of the aural signal line between the transmitting circuit 22, the receiving circuit 23, the interface circuit 25, and the loudspeaker 44 are provided. In normal use, the transmitting circuit 22 and the receiving circuit 23 of the base unit 2 are connected with the line interface circuit 25 via the selector circuit 28. When predetermined push buttons 17 on the handset 1 are operated, the base unit 2 controls the selector circuit 28 so that the telephone line 3 is connected to the loudspeaker 44 via the selector circuit 28.
