Abstract: A method and device for identifying degradation in service quality for a wireless media service. The wireless media service has a known expected packet generation rate, which may be determined by the device based upon the codec and payload size selected on initiating the media service. At a receiving device, the packets actually received by the device from the other termination point are counted over a time period, and this number is compared with the number of packets that were expected based upon the known packet generation rate. From this comparison a packet loss rate may be determined. If the packet loss rate exceeds a threshold level, then the device may issue a user alert, terminate the service, or take other action. The threshold level may be established based upon a packet loss rate corresponding to a significant degree of service quality degradation.

One complementary method for controlling operation of a repeater in radio communication system comprises detection (252), in the repeater, of a radio signal being indicative of an order to activate the repeater. Amplification in the repeater is activated (254) as a response to such a detected radio signal and uplink traffic from a user terminal being located in a vicinity of the repeater and/or downlink traffic to the user terminal is amplified (256). A repeater, a node, a user terminal and a system operating according to the method are presented.

Abstract: Technologies are generally presented for a relay forwarding system combining a data efficiency of soft forwarding that increases generalized signal-to-noise ratio (GSNR) with the ability to use hybrid-automatic repeat requests (H-ARQs) substantially high throughput levels may be maintained by using repair instead of packet re-requests. A relay may receive an incoming signal and perform both a soft forward to a relay destination and a non-forwarded hard decode within the relay. The hard decode results may be analyzed for errors locally to detect suspected bit errors and H-ARQ ACK/NACK signals may be sent so that retransmission can be obtained before a rolling buffer in the relay reaches frame end.

Abstract: A power distribution apparatus (PDA), a power distribution method, and a non-instant computer readable medium thereof are provided. The PDA is used in a relay transmission system (RTS) comprising a mobile station (MS), a relay station (RS) and a base station (BS). The MS communicates with the BS through the RS. The PDA may communicate with the MS, BS and RS. The PDA computes optimum transmission parameters of the MS and BS and an optimum relay forward parameter of the RS according to a power threshold, transmission information of the RTS, an optimum condition and an algorithm. Accordingly, the MS, RS and BS may determine the optimum transmission power of the MS, RS and BS according to the optimum transmission parameters and the optimum relay forward parameter respectively.

Abstract: A relay device that monitors and controls common public radio interface (CPRI) links that are links using CPRIs functioning as interfaces for connecting multiple relay devices included in a radio base station detects a disconnected CPRI link by monitoring, via the CPRI links, relay information containing communication data and control data. The relay device distributes a control content, such as a forced link disconnection that forcibly disconnect a CPRI link or no-transmission that stops the transmission of the communication data, with respect to each CPRI link in accordance with a connecting location of the CPRI link in which a link disconnection is detected. • Patent number: 8385820
Abstract: The present application discloses systems and methods for reducing output-to-input feedback signal interference caused by a forwarding node that is configured to forward information received from a transmitter. In some embodiments, this output-to-input feedback signal interference is compensated for by the transmitter. For example, the transmitter is configured such that the signal that is transmitted by transmitter to the forwarding node includes both (1) a primary signal or ‘desired’ signal (e.g., the signal that is intended for a receiving device) and (2) a filtered version of the primary signal. The filter that produces the filtered version of the primary signal is configured (e.g., the filter's filter weights are adapted) such that the filtered version of the primary signal cancels or reduces the undesired output-to-input feedback signal.

  • Patent number: 8364075
Abstract: In a relay scheme, a wireless source apparatus, a wireless destination apparatus and a wireless relay apparatus cooperate for handling transmission failures by space/time diverse channels. In the case of the successful direct transmission, reduced or no additional overhead for the relay selection is incurred. Thus, for a good SNR between source and destination, the inventive protocol has similar performance as a standard approach. In the case of a transmission failure e.g., due to small scale fading, a transmission via different communication paths implementing spatial diversity via a selected relay is supported. The device is to only activate the overhearing of signals in case of weak signal quality between sender and receiver. This selection of relay devices is done of demand only. A specific protocol for the reservation of the wireless medium for the entire cooperative communication has been specified.
