Patent number: 11219164Abstract: A stalk roll assembly for header of a combine harvester. The assembly includes first and second stalk rolls spaced laterally with respect to one another and rotating in opposite directions. Each stalk roll includes a frusto-conical nose and a cylindrical body. The cylindrical body includes a plurality of radially extending flutes. The nose includes a pair of helical flights. The plurality of flutes includes at least one cutting flute having a straight edge and a plurality of puncturing flutes with teeth. The stalk rolls are laterally offset a distance that permits the tips of the flutes to laterally overlap and the teeth of the puncturing flutes are longitudinally offset so the tips of the teeth are received between with the valleys of the teeth of the other stalk roll.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2020Date of Patent: January 11, 2022Assignee: 360 Yield Center, LLCInventor: Austin Ehle

Patent number: 10314233Abstract: A row unit for a header of an agricultural harvester is provided that includes a frame and two spaced apart stripping plates. The row unit further includes a first stalk roll mounted to the frame adjacent the first stripping plate and a second stalk roll mounted to the frame adjacent the second stripping plate. The first stalk roll includes a primary helical flight having a front end that starts at a front edge of the first stalk roll and the second stalk roll includes a secondary helical flight having a front end that starts at a position axially spaced from a front edge of the second stalk roll.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2015Date of Patent: June 11, 2019Assignee: CNH INDUSTRIAL AMERICA LLCInventor: Bradley Wenger

Patent number: 9210842Abstract: A helical-acting snap roll for a harvesting header having straight flutes which are free of a formed twist. The snap roll includes a plurality of elongated straight flutes that extend substantially the entire length of the snap roll but that are parallel misaligned with a central axis of rotation of the snap roll. A pair of opposing and counter-rotating snap rolls of the present invention chops and pulls crop stalks passing therebetween downward toward the ground while also creating a helical action such that the crop stalks are conveyed rearward. In one embodiment, at least a pair of straight portions acting as flutes are partially parallel aligned with one another along the length and one side of each snap roll.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2013Date of Patent: December 15, 2015Assignee: AGCO CorporationInventors: Randy Lohrentz, Robert A. Patent number: 7992371Abstract: A stalk roll for an agricultural harvester row unit comprising a plurality of longitudinal extending knife edges about its circumference, in which one of the leading and trailing sides of the knife edges is coated with a first wear resistant coating over substantially its entire length, and in which the other of the leading and trailing sides is coated with a second wear resistant coating over at least one of a front portion thereof and a rear portion thereof.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 2009Date of Patent: August 9, 2011Assignee: Deere & CompanyInventors: Steven Timothy Rieck, Timothy Franklin Christensen

Publication number: 20100178964Abstract: A husking roll for use in a husking machine has drive plates defining an axial opening for reception of a drive shaft having flats for drive plate engagement. The drive plates may serve to carry blades for severing husks and other debris from an article. The blades have a helical component and are embedded in lands of an elastomeric cover. A mold loading device magnetically supports the drive plates during a molding operation and is subsequently, lengthwise extracted from the completed roll.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 13, 2009Publication date: July 15, 2010Inventor: Ronald L. Patent number: 6251008Abstract: A husker roll for use in an agricultural product separating apparatus, such as a corn husking apparatus. The husker roll includes a plurality of axially extending ridges or flights which protrude radially from a cylindrical base segment of the roll. The cylindrical base segment may have a circular or elliptical cross-section. The axially extending flights may extend substantially straight or in a helical fashion along the length of the roll. The flights are spaced apart around the circumference of the base segment so as to define grooves between the flights, wherein the circumferential width of the grooves is larger than the circumferential width of the flights themselves. Preferably, the circumferential width of the grooves between the flights is approximately three times the circumferential width of the base portion of the flights.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1999Date of Patent: June 26, 2001Assignee: Hughes Company, Inc.Inventor: Dennis O. Patent number: 5451184Abstract: An apparatus for removing the husks from ears of corn has axially extending rotatable molded rubber rolls. Each roll has a plurality of aligned axially extending flights which protrude from a cylindrical base segment. The flights may extend exclusively axially, or may extend circumferentially as well to define a segment of a helix. The flights of adjacent rolls are meshed with one another, and the rolls are rotated toward one another to engage husks therebetween. Portions of one or both rolls define a helical recess which extends the length of a roll. A continuous rib may extend from the base segment and is aligned between two flights and extends above the base segment, the rib extends through the helical recess, and engages husks within the recess of an adjacent roll. The continuous rib may be internally reinforced with a metal blade. The roll recesses provide relief for larger diameter trash and stalks, alleviating the flexing of the roll axles which might otherwise occur.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1994Date of Patent: September 19, 1995Assignee: Hughes Company, Inc.Inventor: Dennis O.
