Abstract: A structure for a tripod constant velocity joint and a method of assembling a roller assembly maintains the structural stability of the tripod constant velocity joint, and minimizes the frictional force between a trunnion and a track, thus remarkably reducing the generation of axial force, therefore ensuring the stable operation and durability of the constant velocity joint. The structure for the tripod constant velocity joint includes an inner roller and an outer roller provided between a track of a housing and a trunnion of a spider. A roller groove is formed on a central portion of an outer surface of the outer roller in a circumferential direction of the outer roller. Further, a plurality of recesses is formed on a surface of the trunnion to reduce a contact area with the inner roller.

  • Patent number: 7717796
Abstract: When an inner ring portion of a tripod is brought into contact with a protruding portion, the inner ring portion is brought into contact with the protruding portion because an outer diameter of the protruding portion is smaller than a diameter of a tilted outer end portion of the inner ring portion. Since the inner ring portion is tilted with respect to an axial direction, the inner ring portion is brought into contact with the protruding portion by a point (a line) not by a surface. If the inner ring portion is brought into contact with the protruding portion by the point, a stress concentration is generated at the point with which the protruding portion is brought into contact, a small impact force overcomes a breaking load of the protruding portion in the stress concentration portion, and the stress concentration portion is easily broken (plastically deformed).

In this case, a value of F/D is set equal to or less than 0.45, where a distance from a center of the track groove of the outer joint member to the ends of both the hardened layers on the side of the center of the track groove is F, and a diameter of an outer circumference of the roller assembly is D.

Abstract: A tripod type constant velocity universal joint that can suppress generation of shudder by reducing the 3rd order cyclic axial force and has high rotation durability. In a double-roller tripod type constant velocity universal joint, a track gap ?1 between one of the roller guiding surfaces formed on both sides of a track groove, which is on the no-load applied side, and an outer circumferential surface of an outer roller is set to satisfy ?1>0.03/A. Also, a shoulder gap ?2 between a guide shoulder surface formed at the bottom of the track groove and a side surface of the outer roller is set to satisfy ?2>0.15×A. In both the expressions, a degree of torus A is defined as a ratio of a radius of curvature r of a generatrix of the outer circumferential surface to a radius R of an outer circumference of the outer roller (A=r/R).

These support rings and the rollers are assembled (unitized) via a plurality of needle rollers to constitute roller assemblies capable of relative rotations. In longitudinal sections, the outer peripheries of the trunnions have straight shapes parallel to the axes of the trunnions. • Patent number: 7037202
Abstract: A torque transfer device is disclosed that utilizes one or more universal joints to transfer rotary motion between first and second shafts that rotate about non-aligned axes of rotation. The torque transfer device maintains these rotational axes at a fixed angle while allowing the shafts to freely rotate. In order to maintain the rotational axes of the shafts at a fixed angle relative to one another, a stabilizer is utilized. In one embodiment, first and second sections of the stabilizer, which are disposed at a desired angle to one another, are disposed within central bores of the first and second shafts. In this embodiment, the first and second shafts are interconnected with a ring-type universal joint. The ring type universal joint allows the stabilizer to pass between the central bores of the two shafts without interfering with the operation of the joint connecting the two shafts.
