  • Patent number: 8740714
Abstract: A full-round head nail having an offset head is configured with a gusset formed integrally between an undersurface of the offset head and a superior portion of a shank. The head of the nail is relatively thin, and the shank is positioned radially off center of the round head such that no heel is formed at a point tangential to both the head and the shank. The gusset has a lofted surface tapering radially from a roundness at the zero heel to a taper at the toe. The gusset reinforces the junction of the shank with the head, supports the toe of the head, and distributes the force of a load on the head through a longitudinal axis of the shank, preventing the toe from bending or yielding and prevents the shank from yielding to the stresses of the load applied.

  • Patent number: 6884176
Abstract: The present invention relates to aspects of securing holding jaws in nail machines, including a method, a machine, a tool ring and a holding jaw for such purposes. The novel aspects of the invention include that holding jaws are secured to a tool ring in a manner where a number of immovably secured passive fittings are used as well as a number of active fittings. It is hereby ensured that holding jaws may be e.g. replaced without loosening many other holding jaws, and that the holding jaws may be placed very precisely and in a manner, which is repeatable. It is also ensured that the holding jaws may be effectively and easily secured.

  • Patent number: 6729962
Abstract: A pneumatic or manual impact operated nailer requires fasteners in a clip, typically of about 100 fasteners. The invention provides uniform well-bonded fasteners in a clip for use in a pneumatic or manual nailer, the clips being adhesive-free. In addition, this invention provides a method and apparatus for manufacturing such adhesive-free clips by press-forming the fasteners, placing them in proper orientation in a fixture on a rotatable turret rotating the turret to a spot welding location, spot welding the fasteners, and rotating the turret to a clip unloading station. The clip product is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6676528
Abstract: The present invention relates to a tool for the manufacture of an offset head nail, said nail comprising a shank and a head, said head being placed with its center being offset to the center of the shank, wherein said tool is one of a set of at least two tools acting mutually on a blank for a nail, said tool comprising a front side with a reception opening and a top side to be used when forming the head, said reception opening being shaped to form an impression in the blank and to fixate said blank during forming of a head on the blank. The invention further relates to a use of the aforementioned tool. Nails with offset heads are used in nail guns, where a strip of nails is used for shooting multiple times before reloading a new strip of nails.

  • Patent number: 6248020
Abstract: A fastener forming apparatus comprises a positive stop that prevents workpieces from overshooting the end of a forming stroke. A workpiece transfer mechanism transfers one unformed workpiece at a time into a workpiece gripper and drives completed workpieces out of the workpiece gripper and onto an exit path. A compound hydro-pneumatic cylinder moves the gripper and one workpiece at a time downward on a forming stroke into contact with a rotating forming tool. A limit switch causes the reciprocator to reverse direction at the end of the forming stroke. The forming tool includes a tool adapter head that holds various forming implements such as cutting blades or drill bits. In one embodiment the forming tool is a groover apparatus that cuts circumferential grooves around fasteners. In this embodiment, the lower limit switch signals a controller to hold the reciprocator at the end of the forming stroke while the groover forms the groove.

  • Patent number: 6066048
Abstract: A blade punch for forming teeth in a connector plate, the blade punch comprising an elongated blade having a metal working tip at one end and a shank at the other end. The blade has an elongated cross-section defined by opposing parallel spaced planar side walls and opposing ends. Each end comprises a major end wall and a minor end wall which converge to end wall intersections, where the end wall intersections are eccentric to a plane parallel to and midway between said side walls. Each end wall intersects a side wall at an obtuse angle. The metal working tip has opposed air cut faces abutting one another along an air cut edge and opposed first and second forming faces, each of the forming faces abutting one of the air cut faces along an exterior edge. Each of the air cut faces is bordered by a portion of one of the minor end walls, a portion of one of the side walls, the air cut edge, and one of the exterior edges.

  • Patent number: 6004215
Abstract: A fastener forming apparatus comprises a positive stop that prevents workpieces from overshooting the end of a forming stroke. A workpiece transfer mechanism transfers one unformed workpiece at a time into a workpiece gripper and drives completed workpieces out of the workpiece gripper and onto an exit path. A compound hydro-pneumatic cylinder moves the gripper and one workpiece at a time downward into contact with a rotating forming tool. A knurled ring is adjustably supported on a threaded portion of a lower piston of the hydro-pneumatic cylinder in a position to contact a stationary stop surface when the workpiece gripper and tool reach the end of the forming stroke, halting the downward motion of the workpiece. The ring also actuates a lower limit switch at the stationary stop surface which causes the reciprocator to reverse direction. The forming tool includes a tool adapter head that holds various forming implements such as cutting blades or drill bits.
