Tap Spindle Reversing Device Patents (Class 470/181)
  • Patent number: 11771521
Abstract: An instrument device manipulator (IDM) is attached to a surgical arm of a robotic system and comprises a surgical tool holder and an outer housing. The surgical tool holder includes an attachment interface that can secure a surgical tool in a front-mount configuration (where the attachment interface is on a face opposite of a proximal extension of the surgical tool) or a back-mount configuration (where the attachment interface is on the same face as the proximal extension of the surgical tool). The surgical tool holder may rotate continuously within the outer housing. In a back-mount configuration, the surgical tool holder may have a passage that receives the proximal extension of the tool and allows free rotation of the proximal extension about the rotational axis. A surgical drape separates the IDM and robotic arm from a tool, while allowing electrical and/or optical signals to pass therebetween.

  • Patent number: 8678720
Abstract: A radial tapping attachment for a motor-driven tool includes an enclosed, box-shaped housing, a main shaft assembly adapted to retain a tap, a drive mechanism rotatably driven by the tool and a guide member assembly for supporting an object to be tapped. The main shaft assembly includes a main shaft rotatably coupled to the housing by a pair of bearings, a pair of spaced apart discs fixedly mounted on the main shaft, and a pair of axially mounted compression springs that allow for slight, bi-directional, axial displacement of the main shaft relative to the housing. The drive mechanism includes a drive shaft rotatably coupled to the housing at an approximate right angle relative to the main shaft and a drive wheel mounted on the drive shaft that selectively engages the pair of discs to rotate the main shaft in either direction when an axial force is applied to the tap.

  • Patent number: 5733198
Abstract: Axial loads encountered during thread cutting are reduced by controlling interactions between rotation speed, axial feeding speed, feeding (threading) pitch, and feeding position. A counterload is generated by changing a feeding pitch to a corrected feeding pitch, which changes the rotation speed, while keeping the feeding speed constant; by changing the feeding speed, while compensating the rotation speed (which is derived from the feeding speed) to remain constant; by changing the rotation speed, while compensating the rotation speed deviation feedback (to allow the deviation correction to follow the rotation speed change), while keeping the feeding speed constant; by generating a function according to empirical results that controls the feeding pitch, and therefore the rotation speed, while keeping the feeding speed constant; and by combinations of these methods.

  • Patent number: 5639191
Abstract: A short coupled hydraulic tapping apparatus for heavy duty tapping operations including a compact, lightweight, hydraulic tool unit and a remote hydraulic power unit, with the entire apparatus being designed for portability. The tool unit includes a structural base having a slide-mounted high torque, low speed hydraulic motor with internal reduction gearing. The motor is slide mounted for directly driving a lead screw for rotation and longitudinal movement. The lead screw is supported by both the slide-mounted motor and a fixed lead nut. The slide or guideway has a length of travel substantially equal to the length of threads on the lead screw. Reversing and stop control devices control the forward tapping and retracting limits of movement. The design provides a lead screw having an internal bore for coaxially coupling with the motor drive shaft and having an internal coaxial receptacle for replaceably receiving a tapping tool.

  • Patent number: 5203651
Abstract: A tapping attachment for driving a tapping spindle constructed to be adapted for both direct drive and reverse drive of the spindle. The drive of the spindle is by way of a resiliently mounted dog ring having rigid radially extending drive dogs, extending radially outwardly and inwardly from a drive ring. The driving dogs are rigid, having slanting sides to accommodate clutching engagement and disengagement. Clutching engagement and disengagement occur as a result of relative axial movement as between the attachment and the drive spindle. The drive spindle has a central bore in which is provided an insert member having an axial bore which is connected to a flexible tube within the bore of the spindle, which accommodates relative axial movement, the flexible tube communicating with a similar bore in a tap itself. These bores provide a channel for continuously supplying coolant to the machine and to the spindle itself.
