  • Patent number: 6155929
Abstract: A cue stick is provided having a laser sighting mechanism that is in precise alignment with the longitudinal axis of the cue stick. A laser unit is placed within the cue stick, at a location that is substantially adjacent to the cue tip. An aperture is formed in the center of the cue tip, such that the opening through which the laser light will emerge is coaxial with the longitudinal axis of the cue stick. A sufficient number of storage batteries are also located within the cue stick, and an activation switch is provided to selectively energize the laser unit when an emission of laser light though the cue tip aperture is desired.

  • Patent number: 6117019
Abstract: The english and trajectory assistant is a device to aid a player of ball and pocket games to properly strike his primary target ball, resulting in a favorable shot. The device is an attachment which can be fastened to any existing playing stick. The assistant simultaneously projects cross hairs onto the primary and secondary target balls without moving the stick from the shooting position. The device is easily removed and replaced with a traditional stick end. The tip is easily replaced by being unscrewed. Shape, balance, and weight of the stick are not altered.

  • Patent number: 6110051
Abstract: A billiard cue includes a shaft having a hollow bore extending from at least a predetermined distance from a first end toward a second end. The bore forms an outer wall in the shaft having a thickness between about 0.03 and 0.05 inches. The shaft is preferably formed of a composite material consisting of fibers in a binder, such as carbon fibers in an epoxy resin. The shaft material has a modulus of elasticity of at least 4.3.times.10.sup.6 psi. The bore extending from the first end of the shaft, the thin wall thickness of the shaft adjacent to the first end and the material forming the shaft combine to decrease the mass of the tip end of the shaft while maintaining substantially all of the stiffness of a conventional shaft formed of a hard maple to minimize buckling of the tip end of the shaft and thereby substantially decrease deflection of the cue ball from its intended path of movement along a path parallel to the stroke axis of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5820473
Abstract: An improved main joint and/or A joint for a billiard cue stick of the type having at least two detachable sections. The joints include mating tenons extending from opposing sections of the cue stick, and a threaded screw anchored in one of the two sections and extending axially outward through the respective tenon for screw insertion into the mating tenon of the second section. A single or dual-ring collar is also provided for encircling the mating tenons of the two sections. The collar encircles the tenons when the two sections are fully screwed together, and confines the tenons as the screw force causes them to expand. Both the A joint and main joint give an improved self-aligning compression fit. A billiard cue incorporating one or both of said joints will have an increased level of structural integrity in order to reduce deflection and resonance when the billiard cue strikes a cue ball. This helps to give the feel of a solid one-piece cue stick and increases the accuracy and life expectancy thereof.

  • Patent number: 5643095
Abstract: A billiard cue having a separate handle and shaft utilizes a quick operating connector to join the handle and shaft. The connector consists of male and female sections which are secured in the ends of the handle and shaft. The male section contains a cylindrical bar having an accurately machined diameter which snugly fits into a cylindrical cavity of the female section which is slightly oversized with respect to the male bar's diameter. The male bar and female cavity are axially aligned in the cue sections, and the bar engages the cavity over a linear distance sufficient to ensure accurate alignment of the handle and shaft when joined. Two flats at the end of the male bar provide a reduced diameter portion of the bar tip which fits between partial bulkheads within the female cavity, allowing insertion of the bar into the cavity.

  • Patent number: 5514039
Abstract: A ball striking cue comprises a butt section, a shaft section, and a self-locking joint for removably interconnecting the butt and shaft sections end to end. The joint includes the proximate end of the shaft section formed with a conical hole, and the proximate end of the butt section formed with a conical extension. These hole and extension constitute the unique point of contact between the butt and shaft sections. They have complementary shapes and the hole has smaller radial dimensions than the extension whereby the extension can be forced in the hole to press fit the extension in the hole and thereby removably interconnect the butt and shaft sections with a spacing between the bottom of the hole and the free end of the extension. The conical hole and extension widens out and tapers, respectively, at an angle which is function of the nature of their material to enable press fit and retention of the extension in the hole while enabling separation thereof by forcing them axially apart from each other.
