Via Relatively Rotating Cam And Follower Patents (Class 474/10)
  • Patent number: 10591043
Abstract: A variable transmission system for a vehicle is configured such that, when a magnitude of a hydraulic pressure detected by an hydraulic pressure sensor is a first predetermined value or more, a chord portion of a chain belt is pressed such that a raceway length of the chain belt is extended by at least a circumferential extension amount of the chain belt at the time when the magnitude of the hydraulic pressure is the first predetermined value. Hereby, it is possible to restrain the chain belt from coming off from a sheave even in a low vehicle speed range, at a low cost, without causing a fuel efficiency decrease and a driving torque decrease of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 8328669
Abstract: Methods and devices for tailoring the functional relationship between the shift ratio of a CVT and the radial force (FR) into the cam surfaces of a CVT's helix. Such tailoring may effect downshifting, and the separation of the design of the upshift function from the design of the backshift function. Such tailoring may be effected by schemes that include the use of a helix with other than a constant distance from the rotational axis to the touch point (touch-point radius), a touch-point radius that is a monotonic function of the shift ratio, or a touch-point radius that is a meandering function of the shift ratio.

  • Patent number: 7901308
Abstract: A pulley for a continuously variable transmission is provided with a fixed half-pulley fitted on a supporting shaft and a mobile half-pulley, which is able to slide towards the fixed half-pulley under the thrust of a spring, so as to define a V-shaped race of variable amplitude. The pulley is further provided with a device for compensating the axial thrust, said device being constituted by a cam and a cam follower, which are coupled in contact with one another to impart an additional axial thrust on the mobile half-pulley in response to a torque acting on the pulley. The cam is defined by a tubular body made of plastic material co-moulded on the supporting shaft, whilst the cam follower is made of a single piece with the mobile half-pulley.

  • Patent number: 7674197
Abstract: A continuously variable transmission driven-pulley cam having a third cam surface which decreases the travel distance of the roller preventing the drive belt from dropping to a lower radius, thus preventing the transmission from going into a higher gear ratio upon inversion of torque transmitted to the driven pulley. The cam further includes a locking surface which prevents the roller from travelling axially to the cam, thus prevents the inner sheave from moving away from the outer sheave when the driven pulley is operating in the reverse direction. A continuously variable transmission driven-pulley cam roller assembly includes an inner roller and an outer roller wherein the diameters of the inner and outer rollers are different.

  • Patent number: 7300370
Abstract: A clutch for a belted transmission comprises a sheave, a first torque ramp member, a second torque ramp member, a drive ring and an electromagnet. The first torque ramp member is attached to the sheave and has a ramp face. The second torque ramp member is spaced apart from the first torque ramp member and has a ramp face opposing the ramp face of the first torque ramp. A drive ring is disposed between the first and second torque ramp members and has a button slider engaged between the ramp face of the first torque ramp member and the ramp face of the second torque ramp member. The electromagnet is configured for one of repelling the first torque ramp member from the second torque ramp member along a reference axis and attracting the first torque ramp member toward the second torque ramp member along the reference axis.

  • Publication number: 20040112707
Abstract: A torque sensitive clutch has an outer and inner sheave and a means for attaching the outer and inner sheave to each other such that the spacing between the outer and inner sheave expands and contracts without relative rotation. The clutch system is assembled in a manner wherein all rotating force from the outer and inner sheave is transmitted to the power shaft, because the V-belt residing between the outer and inner sheaves does not slip making the clutch much more efficient.

  • Patent number: 6129643
Abstract: A variable diameter pulley comprises a pair of pulley main bodies (18, 19) connected to a rotating shaft (15), and a power transmission ring (20) interposed between the pulley main bodies. A belt (2) is passed around an outer periphery of the power transmission ring (20). The power transmission ring (20) is made eccentric relative to an axis (15a) of the rotating shaft (15) so as to be varied in its contact diameter (D). Both pulley main bodies (18, 19) are threadedly connected to the rotating shaft (15) by a torque cam mechanism (T) composed of a pair of thread connection mechanisms, which are inversely threaded to each other. Torque for effecting rotation of the respective pulley main bodies (18, 19) relative to the rotating shaft (15) is converted into a force, which causes both pulley main bodies (18, 19) to approach each other in equal amounts of stroke.

  • Patent number: 6095937
Abstract: A torque-responsive clutch has an output shaft and an output pulley mounted with respect to the shaft. The output pulley includes a first sheave fixed with respect to the shaft and a second sheave axially movable with respect to the shaft. A helix is mounted with respect to the shaft. In the improvement, a roller container is mounted for driven engagement with the shaft and such container has an interior surface with a plurality of helix-contacting devices, e.g., rollers, mounted adjacent thereto. The helix extends into the container and contacts the devices. In other aspects of the improved clutch, the roller container and the second sheave define a chamber and the helix-contacting devices are confined in such chamber.

  • Patent number: 5720681
Abstract: The invention is in a torque responsive actuation device, preferably for a belt drive system as is commonly utilized with snowmobile and like type vehicles. A bearing carrier of the invention is connected to a lower half of a split pulley, with the upper pulley half mounting a helix or cam cone that extends towards the carrier undersurface and includes a plurality of cam tracks formed therein that are each to receive a cam follower for travel therealong. Movement of the bearing carrier towards the top face of the pulley upper half is thereby translated to lower the pulley half to spread the pulley upper and lower halves apart, opening a V slot therebetween wherein a drive belt is maintained. A cylindrical shaft is journaled through the bearing carrier and fitted through the pulley that includes a coil spring disposed therearound for providing spring biasing to urge the bearing carrier away from the pulley upper half, biasing the pulley halves together.

  • Patent number: 5692982
Abstract: A variable speed belt drive having adjustable mass and moment of inertia camweights is shown for use primarily in conjunction with snowmobile, golf cart, all terrain vehicle and small automobile engines. In one version, the camweight includes a series of perforations or score lines surrounding a cross section of the camweight arm. The perforations define a volume that may be snapped or cut off of the arm with a suitable tool. Also, a series of bores are formed through the arm. In order to increase the mass of the arm, a molten metal or similar flowable material may be poured into one or more of the bores and allowed to cure. In another version of the invention, a reduced cross section arm serves as a base onto which shims are added or reoriented in order to achieve the desired mass and moment of inertia characteristics.
