  • Patent number: 11746852
Abstract: A drive assembly for a two-wheeled vehicle, wherein a closed chain is guided around a drive pinion and a sprocket for output. The chain is formed by pins, on each a bush rotatable about the center longitudinal axis of the pin, a roller provided on each bushing, for rotation around the bushing and has play, and the pins being connected to each other at two opposite ends by means of plates. The outer surface of the bushings and the rollers is coated with pure ta-C, having no further chemical elements except for unavoidable trace elements resulting from production in a PVD method. An Ra roughness between 0.03 ?m and 0.2 ?m and/or an Rz roughness between 0.3 ?m and 2 ?m is adhered to the surface of the coatings. The surfaces of the pinion and the sprocket in contact with the rollers do not have a coating of diamond-like carbon.

Abstract: A chain and a chain and sprocket assembly for a roller, bush, or inverted tooth chain is disclosed. The chain has at least two types of link plates having different profiles, with at least one type of link plate having a leading corner for interaction with a contact ring on the sprocket, thereby reducing noise by reducing chordal action and by breaking up the regular timing of roller-sprocket (or bushing-sprocket) and link plate-sprocket impact. A method of reducing noise in a chain and sprocket assembly is also disclosed.

Abstract: The plates of transmission chain for an engine are formed with a guide-contacting configuration composed of spaced flat surfaces that come into sliding contact with a flat chain guide, and convex surfaces, continuous with and between the flat surfaces, for sliding contact with a convex chain guide. The convex surfaces are connected by a concave surface that, with the guide surface, forms an oil-retaining clearance. The radius of curvature of the convex curved surfaces of the plate preferably increases gradually from the location where they meet the flat surfaces toward the location where they meet the concave surface. The plates can have the same configuration on the side facing the inside of chain loop as on the side facing the outside of the chain loop.

Abstract: A roller chain for bicycles having outer and inner chain links. The outer and inner chain links have outer and inner link plates, respectively. The chain links are joined by tubular pins. The chain links have holes for receiving the tubular pins. The holes have an outward-opening conical contour for receiving a deformed head of the pin. The roller chain is assembled into a working unit by using a closing link to join two inner chain links. The closing link can be assembled and dismantled without plastic deformation or press-fitting forces on the closing link. The configuration of the hole contour and deformed heads allows the outer link plates to enter into a connection with the pins such that a slight movement of the pin in its seat in the hole in the outer link plate.
