Abstract: A V-ribbed belt for a mechanical power transmission is disclosed. The V-ribbed belt comprises an outer back-side surface, an inner front-side surface, and a load-carrying section disposed between the front-side and back-side surfaces. The front-side surface includes a plurality of laterally spaced longitudinally extending v-ribs. The back-side surface includes a plurality of raised features that, when running on a flat-faced, back-side pulley, form a contact patch of about 20% to about 50% of that of a traditional flat-faced belt running on a flat-faced pulley. The reduced contact patch provides increased contact pressure which in turn provides an improved effective coefficient of friction between the belt and the pulley.

The elastomeric material includes the reaction product of a polyisocyanate prepolymer composition and a chain extender. The polyisocyanate prepolymer composition is prepared by reacting a diisocyanate and a polyol substantially free of moieties oxidative at less than about 150° C. and at least one triol crosslinker selected from the same group of polyols. Either before or after reacting the prepolymer, a plasticizer selected from the group consisting of alkyl-ether di-alkylesters such as polyethylene glycol di-alkylester is added thereto. The chain extender is an aromatic symmetric primary or secondary diamine chain extenders.

Abstract: A plate-link chain having a plurality of link plates hingedly connected with each other by pairs of rocker members that each include two rocker members. The rocker members extend transversely to the longitudinal direction of the plate-link chain and are situated with play in openings in the link plates. The rocker members and the link plate openings each have respective curved contact surfaces along which the rocker members and the link plates bear against each other to transmit force. The rocker members include curved rolling surfaces along which the rocker members roll against each other during chain operation to transmit force. The play value between the rocker members and the opening in an adjacent link plate is less than 0.2 mm to minimize lateral vibrations of the chain during operation, to prevent contact of the chain with an enclosing housing and thereby reduce emitted noise.
